Sweet Valley Kids #4: Elizabeth's Valentine
Elizabeth's valentine isn't Todd
And she strikes again with TWO recaps in ONE day!
Elizabeth and Jess both have on matching outfits. In the book they are just red sweaters, no hearts. Anyway Eva's in the middle with the most huge Valentine I've ever seen. Also she's wearing her old uniform from her old school. Liz and Jess don't look identical to me Jess's eyelids are practically dropping and... I like Liz's hair! Oh, and Jessica has the smallest Valentine I've ever seen.
The story begins with Jessica being sick with the flu. She feels alot better than the last three days and wants to go to school. She wants to go to school. She wants to go to school because she doesn't want to miss the new girl's arrival and she wants to be her host. Elizabeth comes just as Jess is waking up. We learn how alike the twins are and that Lila is the only kid in their class that has been to Jamaica and that that's where Eva's from. Just as Jess is about to get ready, Alice comes in and is all, "You can't go to school yet!" and Jess gets to stay home for a fourth day.
Elizabeth is at school and Mrs. Becker is with Eva, the new Jamaican kid who has a British accent. Since Jess's seat is empty, Eva gets to sit next to Liz and "make herself at home." Mrs. Becker picks Liz to be Eva's host because she has the highest grade in social studies. Pbbbt! I would've picked someone who has already been to Jamaica, like Lila because she's awesome, but, that would mess with the whole entire story, wouldn't it?
We go to lunch with Liz and Eva when Lila, Ellen and Amy come over. And Eva says, "Peta pipa picked a peck of pickled peppas." The next day Jess can go back to school she missed being Eva's host, but not making Valentine's! Jess sees that Eva is sitting in her seat and makes a huge fuss with it. Eva sits on the other side of Liz and Jess gets her seat back. Eva and Jess meet and they don't hit it off that well.
Next day, Saturday, Amy and Eva are going over to Casa Wakefield to swim with Liz and Jess can't 'cause it's sorta chilly and Alice doesn't want her to get the flu again. Alice? Thinking? Wow. While they're swimming, we learn that Eva's a really good acrobatic underwater. Amy feels left out and talks to Jess, Liz and Eva don't even notice. This is reminding me of the last book I recapped with the mixing up. Amy and Jess? Anyway, Elizabeth finally remembers about Amy, but she doesn't want to swim because she is being neglected. Eva hears meowing from above somewhere, but the Wackfields Wakefields don't own a cat!
The next day the twins go to the park with no friends. Jess is very happy that she won't get neglected! They're at the seesaw and Lila comes up with a new bike. How many new bikes does Lila get? Jess is all, "Not now Lila, I'm enjoying my time with Liz 'cause she's basically being friends with Eva instead of me, so get away with your new bike." Ohh Lila's mad at her now. Eva shows up and Liz goes away with her.
The next day at the bus stop, Todd wants to play catch with Liz before the bus comes, but the bus comes before they can start.
"The bus is coming!" Caroline Pearce yelled. "I call I'm at the front of the line."
All the older boys pushed in front of Caroline. She said the same thing every day, and every day no one paid attention to her.
I wonder who her friends are.
In class Lila is avoiding Jess so Jess is hanging with Amy and Amy is mad at Liz for hanging with Eva but neither Liz or Eva are mad at anyone. The next day they are making their Valentine's. The thing is you make a Valentine and you give is to someone but it's anonymously. Or in Liz's words, "You give valentines to all the people you like. Everyone makes lot of heart-shaped cards,"
Just a side note: When I just typed "heart-shaped" that just reminded me of the last book I recapped. Valentine's themed. *Stupid heart-shaped lanterns...*
Jerry McAllister shouts he knows who TBT's Valentine is.
"You be quiet!" Todd shouted. His face turned bright red. He crunched up his construction paper and threw it across the table at Jerry. Then he quickly glanced at Elizabeth.
Wow! A face to match his construction paper!
Oh and Jess goes to Amy's house after school and Amy doesn't have a dollhouse, so they play pirates!
They next morning is Valentine's Day (Happy birthday to meee!) The twins will not talk to each other, but they wear the same outfit though. At school they pass out... the secret valentines and Winston gets one of the first ones. Elizabeth gets one but we never know if Jess got one...
The next chapter title is, "All Tangled Up" Literally. At recess Eva has Liz, Jess, Amy and Lila meet at the swings and Eva ties everyone all up. It's a "cooperation game" and they all have to get out. They all get out and everyone becomes friends again and they celebrate by going to swim at Casa Wakefield after school. They all hear meowing from above somewhere. It's not their cat! Jess wants to keep it, but Ned and Steven are allergic to those meowers. And that leads into the next book... which hasn't been recapped yet.
