This is my recap for # 34, Troublemaker in the Senior Year Series.
The cover has Tia, Jeremy and Jessica (all wearing pastels), which one do you think is the "troublemaker"?
Read on to find out who's causing all the trouble in SVHland.
The A Plot
Jessica, Jeremy, Trent and Tia are having dinner at a 50's diner. At first they're talking about Ken and the U Mich scholarship fiasco. Jeremy is a sad panda cause he misses his family and his birthday is coming up. Tia and Jeremy think the restaurant is lame sauce and Jess and Trent think it's totally awesome and they get into a conversation about '50's music. Tia and Jeremy aren't into it and they're bored.
Later at the Wakefield casa, Jess is bouncing around singing '50's music and thinking about how much she looooves Jeremy (so cute I could gag). She realizes that he was quiet at the restaurant. She remembers that his birthday is coming up and he must be sad because his birthday is coming up and he misses his mommy and daddy and sisters. She decides to throw him a surprise party. She calls Tia to recruit her in party planning. But she's not there. She thinks about recruiting Liz, but Liz doesn't do surprise parties so she calls the Maynor's home and recruits Trent. They agree to meet at the Eggshell for breakfast to plan the deets for the party.
So then, Jess is waiting for Trent and he's 20 minutes late, but Jess is already 10 minutes late so I guess he hates wearing a watch as much as the Jessmeister. He finally shows up and they get down to business. They need a place that's special and not some place they work (HOJ) or broke up (First and Ten). Jess suggests Fantasy Island Fun House (their first date). Jess tells Trent the story (Romeo and Juliet originally, Mom gave Jess the wrong address, blah, blah, blah). Trent says he thought he was the first date guru (he paid a buddy to give him a projection room at a movie theater and he has a romantic dinner).
Then they run into Conner and Alanna. It's awkward and Jess thinks her name is Arianna. Then they leave because Conner made things lame. Jeez Conner, quit being lame! People like Jessica don't know why you're friends with someone like Tia when you're lame. Whatever, moving on.
At school, Conner tells Tia he saw Jess and Trent at the Eggshell and Tia blows it off, then gets slightly worried. Then she runs into Jess in drama class and fills her in and says she tried to reach her but she wasn't home. Then everything's ok because Jess loves Jeremy.
After some sports practice at Big Mesa, Jeremy asks Trent if he wants to go get pizza. Trent blows him off and says he has plans with Tia. Jeremy is a sad panda. So he goes home and calls Jessica and she blows him and says she, Tia and Liz were going shopping, you know "girl stuff". He tells her Trent supposedly had plans with Tia and Jess chalks it up to post cheerleading practice brain Jeremy is sad again. Wah.
Jess is really meeting Trent at the Fantasy Island Fun House. When Jess gets there, he's playing some video game and he notices her and she says "I should say I've been waiting for awhile.....blah, blah, blah. Supermodels in bikinis could 't drag you away." Trent's all, "I'd notice if you were in a bikini. Jessica blushes and they decide to try out some games for the party. Yeah, Trent if that's what you wanna call trying to get into the pants of a Wakefield twin.
They wind up playing a virtual horse racing games and Jessica wins. Then Jess and Trent have a little, "moment" (they almost kiss). Jess freaks out, makes an excuse and bolts.
Trent starts thinking that things seem right with Jessica and there is something happening that he can't deny. Bad Trent!
Later, Jeremy is hanging out at the Maynor's, he's super said and missing his family and he gets a gift package from them. His Mom gives him a sweater (in southern California, seriously? A new wallet from dad. A copy of Treasure Island from his sisters. Oh and his dad also gives him $50. Jeremy is happy again and calls Jess and asks to take her out on the town with his $50. Jess says she already has a surprise lined up for him and she'll pick him up at 7 from Trent's house.
At lunch, Tia meets with Liz and tells her her worries over Trent and Jessica. Liz tells Tia Jess is crazy about Jeremy and for her not to worry.
At Casa de Wakefield, Jess is freaking out over her "almost" moment with Trent and asks St Liz for advice. This is really boring so I'm going to summarize it. Jess tells Liz the sordid details. Jess says I almost kissed him, but Jeremy and I are fine. Liz says Jess is a drama queen... Blah, blah, everything's ok, Jess won't do anything... moving on.
Liz makes a list of why she's happy to be single. She doesn't have to buy new clothes or make up. She make plans without having to check with someone (news flash Liz, you still have to check with your PARENTS!). She can pig out on popcorn and watch chick flicks....etc, etc. Yeah, Liz needs a boyfriend (don't worry Liz, Jeffrey will come back in 4 books).
Trent's not sure what to do since he and Jess almost kissed and Jeremy is his best friend.
So then, Jeremy's party is upon them. Jess picks up Jeremy and blindfolds him and takes him to Fantasy Island and everyone yells "surprise!" and he's all happy again, even though he just wanted it to be the two of them because Jess is happy. At the party, Jeremy and Jess are having a blast killing Martians. Jeremy goes to play a game with Stan and Trent comes to talk to Jessica while she's doing "hostess" duties. At first, she thinks something's wrong. Then he tells her he needs to talk to her about the other night. He tells her he's been having feelings for Jess and he shouldn't be at Jeremy's party. He says he needs to be honest and Jess says "Honest? What about Tia and what about Jeremy, your best friend?"
Jessica is angry cause she's written it off and is trying to be a good girlfriend and Trent is being a douche. He says for her not to pretend that they didn't almost kiss and Jess blows him off and storms off. Tia overhears them shouting and goes to see what's up. She hears Trent shout that he and Jess almost kissed and she get's pissed and storms off. Jeremy see's Tia and asks what's up. Tia tells him that Jess and Trent have been keeping another surprise from him and she storms off. Jeremy see's Jess and Trent, jumps to conclusions based off of a look on their faces and he gets pissed and runs off.
B Plot
Maria has been dealing with the Ken-and his-dad-bribing-the-U Mich-rep-for-a-scholarship fiasco and is behind on her school work. She thinks that it's impossible that she the smartest, most studious, Senate Scholarship holding student could have, gasp, senioritis!
Maria makes it a point to get caught up on her homework, which she thinks should be easy now that Ken's moved on from the fiasco. She won't be able to see him until she gets caught up. She has to break plans with Ken for off campus lunch because she has a deadline for the Oracle. She goes to the office and runs into Wendy and Walt, two random SVH characters. They get to chit chatting and Wendy tells her about a guy named Tom DeFalco. Tom allegedly sells papers to students and especially to seniors who start slacking on their homework in the middle of the year. Maria being pious thinks that she would never stoop so low to buy a paper, after all, she is even more perfect than Liz Wakefield! Just kidding.
In Psych class, the teacher assigns the students a 2,000 word paper profiling a psychological study which he doesn't think is asking too much being that the class has such a light volume of work. Maria, however, is behind and has just another thing to do for her. Plus, Psych is supposed to be her easy class! Meh!
Later, she's getting caught up when Ken calls. Maria bitches about how stressed she is and he says that she's the most smartest girl in the world and she'll still pass even if she does no homework for Psych. She hangs up and then a lady from the Senate committee calls and reminds her that she needs to keep her GPA up and Maria stresses out once again.
Oh yeah, and Ken's dad is still a douche. At school, Maria runs into Liz between their classes and they bullshit about some English test and they go into their next class and the teacher gives them back a test. Maria got, oh no, a B-! Oh the horror! Liz says they can't all be A's but Maria is still freaking the fuck out. So now she has to work even harder.
Dear Maria,
One B- will not kill your GPA. Get the fuck over it. It's call a grade point AVERAGE because it AVERAGES out.
MCSMaria
Moving on. Ken calls Maria and she blows him off and he feels like no one loves him anymore. At school, Maria is late and she's freaking out again. The guidance counselor gives her a tardy slip citing illness as the reason for her lateness. Maria ponders senioritis and gets to class. On her way, she spots Tom DeFalco and decides that's he's the answer to her homework problems and approaches him.
She tells him she needs to buy a paper from him. He says something snarky and she says something snarky back. Then he says she's not the first straight A student that he's had as a "customer" and he says he need to be sure she wasn't a narc. They agree on $100 and Maria agrees to meet him in the science lab the next day to pick up her "merchandise".
The next day, Maria is on her way to meet Tom DeFalco and she runs into Ken. She blows him off again and Ken is a sad panda. He sees her with Tom and he thinks she's dumping him for a bad boy.
Later, Maria is finishing up her homework and she needs to go through the paper she got from Tom. She feels all dirty and icky. She looks over the paper and she knows it's good. She types it up real quick and goes to bed. She turns it in the next day and she feels icky and guilty again. She feels even worse when Mr. Swaney comes up to her and tells her it's excellent work. She feels super guilty, but feels she had no other choice and she feels disappointed.
C Plot
Conner is in bed and the phone rings and it's Alanna. They bullshit for awhile and she asks him to meet her for breakfast. He decides he needs to meet her. He'd dumped her when he smelled alcohol on her breath and blah blah blah. I really can't stand these two. Mostly her.
Conner and Alanna have ran into Jessica and Trent at the Eggshell. Alanna thought Conner would be jealous because Liz was on a date with another dude and Conner has to explain that they're identical twins. Blah, blah, blah, they bullshit, "how are you?" "what have you been doing..." etc, etc. Conner says he needed space because he thought Alanna could be drinking again. Alanna says "Oh no! I certainly have not." Then she makes up some bullshit excuse about how her dad "left" the scotch out. That's not what happened you little liar. He tells her he can't be with someone who's drinking and Alanna is happy because he's back with her. Gag me.
Later, Conner's driving Alanna home and she see's her parents car in the driveway and freaks out. Her parents are bigger douches than Ken's dad. They get out. Mr. Feldman grills them and Alanna introduces Conner to her parents. They say they were at the country club, but they left early for Mr. Pierson, the club manager's, retirement party. Conner says something and the Feldman's ask him who his parents are. He tells them his Mom's name and they silently judge him and say they've seen her. Conner leaves.
After school the next day, Alanna is sitting around in her room waiting for Conner to call and her Mom barges in and tells her that she and her dad don't want her to see Conner anymore. Alanna freaks out and says that they should thank Conner because he's saving them from the shame of a drunk daughter. Her mom goes to leave and Alanna convinces her mom to invite Conner over for Dinner. Mrs. Feldman says she'll talk to Mr. Feldman and blah, blah, blah.
So her parents agree to let Conner come to dinner and they're even bigger douche bags to him. They invite some dude named Justin Witherspoon over and he's a tennis playing douche. But since he's the right kind of douche, her parents approve of him. They ignore Conner during dinner and ask Justin questions and Conner gets pissed and leaves.
He feels bad and calls her the next day. She's upset with her parents and she apologizes for their behavior. He says she shouldn't apologize, blah, blah, blah. They agree to meet up at The Shack and he says he won't do anymore family dinners with her family. They meet up at the Shack the next evening and they dance and they're all happy.
