Is anyone still hanging around? I love these snarks and have spent an unhealthy amount of time reading and re-reading them and would love to read more!
I may start snarking some for the hell of it on my page. Going through some of my old books I unearthed The Evil Twin and abandoned my closet-cleaning project. I'd forgotten how ridiculously delicious these books can be!
It's so weird because reading these years ago as a kid, it seemed perfectly natural that the kids in the book would try to stop murderers and werewolves themselves and not go to their parents or the cops, and 10-15 years later I give myself a black eye from slamming my head against the wall when I grit my teeth and spit "CALL. THE. DAMN. COPS." I guess SVH wouldn't have been nearly as exciting if it went "Margo tries to kill Liz, and Jess calls the cops. The cops arrive, arrest Margo, and give her the electric chair." I'm satisfied John Pfeifer blew up, though.
Definitely! I look back on these and wonder why child!me never noticed anything odd about some of the more outlandish situations. I guess with the SVH ones, I assumed once you got to the magical world of SIXTEEN you were, like, basically an adult with all the power and might that entailed...
I was mentioning the books to a 7th grader not to long ago. I was saying how Bruce tried to rape Liz, but they ended up together. Then I was trying to explain why our parents were okay with us reading about attempted rape as 4th graders.
