SVU #32: The Boys of Summer

Nov 04, 2017 22:11

My first recap in lots of years.  Hope I'm not too rusty at it!  This is the final book in the second SVU lifeguard trilogy, in which Jessica, Elizabeth, Nina, and Winston have wacky adventures on the beach during a summer vacation that exists in some kind of alternate dimension to the regular SVU series. The first book, Beauty and the Beach, has ( Read more... )

Wow, this book was crazy!!!! But you did cause me to LOL at Jessica's reflections. Especially the one where she realises that this kind of thing happens to her a LOT.

Thank you for the recap; what a blast from the past. I'm actually glad I never read this one because it sounds terrible. ;)

Thanks! I was a little surprised at some of Jessica's unexpected insights. It's like the writer couldn't resist pointing out the things this community has known all along.

This was a great recap! And Jessica really was oddly insightful.

Lovely recap, it's given me a warm glow of nostalgia! Or... bafflement! (I never read this one but it all feels so familiar)

Stu is concerned about Rachel ending up in a mental institution because he thinks that "meditation would help her the most." What.

Also I was surprised how... murderous that B plot got, that's a bit dark for a non-Chiller.

The Winston plot sounds epically silly but I kind of love the idea of him knowing exactly how Sweet Valley works and that he has the goofy plot to pull off!

Yeah, that B plot took a sharp turn toward Margo territory. I think the ghostwriter was getting bored and wanted to shake things up?

As for Winston, the more I think about it the more I dig the idea of a character who's actually aware he or she is a character in a book. Like Deadpool, only less murdery.

This is understandable. I think I read part of this trilogy, or the last one, and wasn't very gripped. I'd probably have wanted to throw in a murder or two.

Winston Egbert: Like Deadpool, Only Less Murdery :D

Anything teetering toward Margo territory is superb. I'm re-reading the Evil Twin series for the hell of it and holy shit the ghost writer must have been in a really dark place.

I still can't look at the inside jacket without thinking that Todd was clubbed by an Oscar award, LOL

Girl, you're not rusty at all! Excellent snark. I was laughing through the whole thing. I realize these books make it easy to laugh, but snarking isn't as easy as it seems!

I've only ever read the first couple SVU books. I don't know why I stopped there... looks like they just got better and better!

The first 2 plots at least make SOME sense. That C plot... O.o. WHYYYYYYY.

I agree with you on the ghostwriter having a little yuk over the sex-scene-that's-not-but-so-is :)

Great job! Dang, now I kinda want to read thru these again. I was doing so well reading them regularly (I found this place late so there was a lot to read at once), and then I think I just realized how much time I was wasting, lol. This comm was such a guilty pleasure!

I am only slightly embarrassed to admit I am nearly done re-reading every single recap on this site. I've finished all the book ones and am now laughing my way through the TV show recaps. So much guilty pleasure!

The TV eps were wonderful, probably made more wonderful by the excellent screen caps included in several.

Teens today with their Justin Biebers and Fidget Spinners and whatever the heck it is teens are into these days will never know the simple pleasures of clutching the newest SVH book in their hands, along with the worlds cheapest nail polish whilst standing in line at their local K-Mart.

Ahh, memories.
