I have heard from Paul. He and his family are safe. And I got an email from Julie this morning; I'm hoping that means she's safe. This is horrible. My thoughts are with you all at VT and all the friends and family who are also affected by this tragedy.

i got your email; we're having email problems, so this will hopefully work better. i'm okay, as is everyone i know. however, we still don't know about the students, and i just don't know what i will do if my students were hurt, or worse. i can't even fathom it.

i'm so sorry julie. jesus. this is all terrifying. and unfathomably sad. we're all reeling from the tragedy, here. i can't imagine what it must be like for you all.
know that i (and my colleagues, students, friends, and family) have you all in our thoughts. if there's anything i can do, let me know.

hey, there, sugar. are you feeling as uselessly far away as i am? i called paul yesterday too, to make sure he was home safe, but i can't shake wanting to be there.

yes, yes i'm feeling the same helplessness. i ache for them. and for everyone. at any university. walking the campus and wondering.
