"At least you got to go to the dance" Zoe comments when Kaylee is finished giving the details of her tour with the captain into Inara's world.
Kaylee flashes a small smile. "It was fun and it was beautiful and there was a lot of cheese, but I think I'm ready to get out of this dress already."
Zoe nods. She sends a glare to Badger, who just waves his hand indicating that they are free to go back to Kaylee's room and get out of the big dress she was wearing. There's a snort from Jayne before the girls begin moving which they do not fail to notice.
"Captain already said it, and he was right" he jokes. "Doesn't suit you, Kaylee."
Both Wash and Zoe look like they're gonna reply at the same time (and by the looks of it, Zoe might even get physical about it), but Kaylee just ignores it. However, the look of sadness in her face, if only for a brief moment, makes Simon unable to contain himself.
"Well, I think you look lovely in that dress" he blurts out.
All eyes fall on him and he panics, unable to say another word, looking down at the deck of cards he was currently shuffling. He does not look up to see Jayne's smug grin, with a snarky reply ready for him, or to see the looks of awareness that Wash and his wife shared, but eventually he looks up to see Kaylee's smiling again, and her cheeks might just have turned a little redder.
