Three months, Henry thought to himself as he sat up straighter in his wheelchair. Three months that he and Zeke had been working towards him being able to walk again, and so far, they'd had minimal success. He was no closer to walking on his own than he'd been right after the accident.

He gritted his teeth, closing his eyes and pushing away the thought that leaped into his mind.

He might never be able to walk again. He might be stuck in this wheelchair forever -- and that more than likely meant that at some point, he would be out of Zeke's life forever, too. If he wasn't making progress, then there wasn't any hope for them to have a future.

He was no closer to forming any kind of romantic relationship with Zeke than he was to walking, and he was terrified that he would have to close the door on both of those hopes.

But every time he saw Zeke, the hope that they could possibly have a future together rose within him, and he couldn't help but hope that Zeke felt the same way. All he needed was one little sign, one indication that Zeke could share his feelings, and he would be on top of the world.

"Hey, Henry." Zeke's soft voice brought him out of his thoughts and back into reality; the other man was there in the room, standing by the open doorway. "Sorry I'm a little late. Hope you don't mind, but I got caught up at the clinic. But hey, I made it here, and that's what counts, right?"

"Right," Henry said with a soft laugh, nodding. "Better late than never."

He knew the routine; Zeke would push the wheelchair to the physical therapy rooms, and they would spend a couple of hours there before coming back to his room, making small talk. He would skirt around his feelings, not wanting to express them out loud for fear of making a fool of himself.

Henry hardly realized that Zeke was leaning down until their faces were less than an inch apart; he could feel Zeke's warm breath against his skin. He closed his eyes a split second before Zeke's lips brushed across his own, the kiss so gentle that he almost didn't believe it had happened.

Raising his hand to his mouth, Henry touched his lips gently, almost reverently, his senses whirling. Zeke had kissed him. Their very first kiss. It had been beautiful, magical.

"All right?" Zeke asked, his voice barely a whisper, his gaze riveted to Henry's face.

"More than all right," Henry answered, his voice just as soft. Zeke bent to brush another gentle kiss across his cheek before moving behind the wheelchair, the smile on his face mirroring Henry's as the two of them left the room and headed out for Henry's physical therapy session.
