Zeke Barnes sighed as he stepped out of the elevator, heading slowly towards the front lobby of the Drake. He hated being in high-class places like this; they always made him feel out of place, as though he was trying to fit in somewhere that he would never belong.

He'd been asked to come here and talk to a patient of Michael Holt's, as a favor -- but it hadn't gone well. The patient had categorically refused to return to Holt Neuro; she claimed that there was nothing wrong with her, and had more or less ordered Zeke to leave her presence.

He'd done so happily; he didn't really want to be here in the first place. He should have known that this would be a thankless errand, and he would have more than a few angry words with Mike for asking him to come here instead of doing the job himself.

As Zeke fumed his way towards the lobby, Henry Martin emerged from his apartment on the fourth floor, not bothering to glance at the elevator as he pressed the call button. He was already late for a meeting; being behind schedule wasn't going to do him any favors with his boss.

But he'd had a hard time getting himself motivated to get up today, for some weird reason. He just had a feeling that this day was going to turn out badly; he didn't know why, but some sixth sense in the back of his mind kept telling him that he should stay at home.

He couldn't do that, he told himself, adjusting his tie and picking up his briefcase. He had too many things to do; he couldn't listen to a voice of gloom and doom, even if it sounded strangely like a warning. HE had to get out there, move ahead, look towards the future.

The past was behind him now, he told himself firmly. He had finally begun to live his own life, cutting the ties with Jane, even though they still lived in the same building. He was starting a fresh life, leaving the bitter, twisted memories of his time with her behind him.

Some of those memories had been sweet, too, he thought with a soft sigh. Those were the memories he would try to keep, even though he had no intention of ever being with her again. That part of his life was over, and the future was a glittering panorama before him.

When the elevator doors opened, he didn't look down before he entered the conveyance. This was something he did every day without thinking about it; there was no reason to check and make sure that the elevator was safe, that something hadn't malfunctioned.

He barely realized that he was falling through empty space until he hit the ground.

Can we get tags for both of these fandoms, please? I know I'll be writing a lot more for both of them!
