Do you believe the old myth about dying in your dreams making you die in real life? I was at a low point in life and I kept having dreams where I was in danger of dying. Finally I gave in and let it happen. I woke up everytime. EVERYTIME. Why?

I have died in dreams. I have done the Groundhog's Day thing where if you die, you start over. I have experianced Heavens, Hells, being a ghost, and reincarnation.

Sudden deaths often wake me up with a start.- impacts from falls, car wreaks, explosions, gunshots and the like.

Slow deaths almost never do. Drownings, bleeding to death, disease, starvation, etc.

I have honestly begun to belive it depends partly on how early in the dream cycle you die. If it's near the end of one of your cycles and your body is preparing to either wake up, or start a new dream then you are much more likely to be awoken by it than in the middle of one of your dream cycles.

you know what though... its pretty darn late and I think slipping off into an alternate reality sounds like a damn fine idea right now, so I'm going to go see If I can't make something to write about for tomorrow. Have a lovely night, and may your dreams linger and your nightmares fade.

I have the startover scenario over and over again in every dream, because I die in nearly every dream. And if it's not death, it's at least some form of failure, whereas I become so bored with losing, that I just start over.
The real question is:
Is death a form of failure, then?

If one of your goals is to prevent death, then death would be a failure. To someone honestly attempting suicide, living would be a failure.
