Look here for more info. Most especially keep an eye out for "If you want to apply for indefinite leave to remain, get form SET(O)."
It took me like a hundred scans of the page before I found that (but maybe I'm dim...) but that's the form you need, and if you read it carefully it's surprisingly simple.

I believe I may have been the source of that rumour, but I think my sources were misinformed, as there's no mention of it on the Slimelight website or LJ. Apologies for any confusion.
