NYC here I come!

I'm heading to NYC in a week or so to visit a friend, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to fun places to check out while there. Anything from big tourist stuff to dive bars and underground venues. We'll be staying in Queens but want to explore a bit. She's from Budapest and has been there all of a few days at this point, and

If there are any Rubulad parties going on when you're there, those are fun. Kind of freakie San Fransisco/West Oakland warehouse party kinds of things, but very New York. They're underground, so there's no one good place (that I know of) to find out the wheres and whens, but thousands of New Yorkers seem to know, so ...

My stand by bar is Max Fish. There's also a Mexican place a block away (can't for the life of me remember the name) that sells margarita slushies (perfect for walking around with). The Waterfalls...I've found this page to be useful for events in film and music. And sister blog to SFist, Gothamist is worth checking out.

I was told by a friend that I could not go to NY, w/out a visit to Don Pepe's- apparently the *best* Italian restaurant evah!
