I know that there are fans who have acted out of line when it comes to their reaction to the reccent events that happened in Torchwood. There are always some fans who are incapable of behaving. But overall, people have merely tried to convey their disappointment with a series they had come to love and feelings that they would no longer be ( Read more... )

Then I suppose we will just have to bask in the greatness of our show and the decency of our writers. :)

*sigh*

Comments like those make me *want* to go back to the SPN fandom.

I mean, I get that the writers want to defend their work and their decisions, and they totally have a right to, but considering they have purposely put this story in the public eye to be viewed (and hopefully enjoyed) by the public, the public has just as much right to react to it--and dislike it. Vocally.

And his comments on a season four? Pretty much boiled down to "oh, yeah, we'll think of something probably." WTF is that? Now I'm *really* not interested in tuning in next year, if they didn't even have a general direction going into this.

I don't have a problem with writers standing by their work, they should. My issue is his total dismissal of his fan base and what seems to be his whole "they're my toys and I'll break them if I want to" approach. I've never gotten a feeling that there has ever been a plan for Torchwood, and now with RTD headed for America and leaving the BBC behind (which was apparently a surprise for them as well) I think it's clear he just wanted to try and make it difficult for anyone to continue the series. There were some really good things about COE, but it wasn't the Torchwood that fans had come to expect.

He has a right to defend his work, fans have a right to be disappointed, but to act like you are the all powerful writer and declare that it doesn't matter if people watch your work or not (even going so far as to encourage them to watch other things), well, good luck creating a new loyal fan base.

I really agree.

The whole thing smacks of "if you don't like it, you're not smart enough to understand it." It's very off-putting, and doesn't make the show look good for potential new viewers.
