Time to buy some seasonal sweaters

I have been thinking a lot about my future lately, and have come to a startling realization.  I am enjoying the crap out of teaching.  Sure, I have bad days.  Sometimes I think I am doing a terrible job.  But most days, teaching gives me a certain sense of centeredness.  It's not like I wake up every morning and go "GOLLY GEE WHIZ HURRAY ANOTHER ( Read more... )

I adore this post. Even if you don't want to pursue teaching as a lifelong career, the fact that you're entertaining the idea in a serious way makes me happy, as a future teacher. And everyone certainly needs more ESL teachers.

I love teaching - I can't imagine doing anything else. You've summed it up perfectly - frustrating, challenging, amazing, tiring, rewarding... and, if you're doing it right, never boring. ;)

I hope you do decide to continue teaching after you come back, but even if you don't, I feel like any amount of teaching is enough to change your perspective a little. Everyone should do it.

(I also saw an awesome bumper sticker today that I WANT so bad: "Too bad the only people who know how to run the country are busy teaching." Made me happy.)

I just want to say this...if you think you want to teach, then when your year is up, GO BACK AND GET CERTIFIED! I SO regret not doing that! Instead, because I loved teaching so much, I stayed here, year after year. I'm finishing up my ninth year here already and I see so many doors that would be open to me if I were certified. I hadn't done it because I didn't want to leave Korea and because a lot of the classes that you must take in order to get that education degree and get certified just would not help me teach over here. Since I just wanted to stay here and teach, I didn't see the point. I wish so much now that I had just DONE IT. Start saving your money now so that you can. (And if you change your mind and want to do something else, having a wad of money in your account won't hurt a thing!)

Why is it that your journal entries are always so interesting to read?

I'm looking forward to the next one.
