As much as I've criticized Gygax for being a very hostile DM, and the source for some of the bad in D&D and other RPG's, he was still one of the two people who gave me the hobby that changed my life. Many, many of the friends I have today are because of Dungeons and Dragons. RPG's are one of my favorite pass times. It's helped me with math, writting, being creative in general, and even some of my social skills. He will be missed. Worse then that, he's the harbinger of the passing of the First Guard. How much longer do Arneson and the rest have?

On a far less serious note: I think the actual cause of death, is that Wizards sent him a preview copy of 4th ed. He was so sickened by it, that he just gave up the ghost right there.

Finally, if I can make it to the wake, there had damn well better be a line for dice blessings. This is Gary Freaking Gygax, I'd hope he made provisions for that in his will...

Dude, if there's a wake, you need to get there, then send me some good-luck dice!

But yeah, I definitely get your meaning about the passing of the originators...how much longer does Sembieda have, Pondsmith, Monte Cook, the list goes on. Even the passing of the original artists, Valliejo, Elmore...

Dude...I'm so depressed about this...

Mandy doesn't understand, she just keeps laughing at me about this.

Well, I do live in MN, so I'm only a state away. I'm pretty sure I can road trip there pretty damn easily. And I think I might if the wake is open to the public and I have the time.

That's mostly the old guard, but they're not that old yet... I'm more worried about Arneson, and, yeah, Elmore, Valliejo and company.

I too am down about this, but at the time, it's kinda nice to see the outpouring on the boards I frequent of memoroies and stories, and how much D&D has meant for everyone. Stuff like that.

Let me guess, Mandy is not a table top gammer?
