Buffy woke up to the sound of the phone ringing

Dawn overheard the "oh, hi mom," from her sister's voice as she was getting ready for Archery and almost tackled Buffy, just to hear her mother's voice one more time. But it wasn't her mother, and to not have Joyce recognize her...well, that might be worse than not talking to her at all.

So, instead, she eavesdropped by the doorway to Buffy's alcove. And sniffled a little.
