Buffy was sitting on her bed, reading Teen Vogue and munching on an apple. She was feeling quite at peace with the world, and was idly wondering if she would go hunt down Sam later for some boyfriend/girlfriend time. It had been a while, after all

Sam was doing his best to stay calm and not worry about exactly what he was going to say to Buffy. After all, he had to save some of his concerns for hoping that this would all be all right in the end. Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door.

Buffy put her magazine aside, bounced off the bed -- to a squeak of protest from Bertie. "Sorry!" -- and skipped over to open the door. When she saw who it was she beamed. "Hi! I was just thinking about you!"

Sam couldn't help but smile back at her enthusiasm. This was going to be harder than he thought. "I was just thinking about you too. That's part of why I stopped by."

"Oh yeah?" She glanced around the room quickly. No random underwear or dirty dishes. Okay. She smiled at him again. "Want to come inside? We can, you know, talk."

Sam had to resist the urge to reach over and give her a hug, worried that that wouldn't help. "I'm sorry, Buffy. I really am. I'd like to still be friends with you, if that's even possible, which I know it might not be."

"But... But..." Buffy repeated. No one had ever broken up with her before. She wasn't quite sure what to do.

Then she narrowed her eyes. "Is there someone else?" 'Who's ass I need to kick' went unsaid but was still very audible.

"No, there isn't," Sam said smoothly. He didn't want to ruin Dawn's relationship with Buffy just because of him. "This is all me being...stupid, I guess."

Buffy looked sad again. "But don't you think you could get un-stupid again?" she asked, hopeful.
