Pairing Zolof J KimbleyxFrank Archer
Theme set Alfa
Rating Overall R, but ranging between G to said pairing
Author's comments I've never been a minimalist. Therefore, this has been something of a challenge. Anyhow, it's been fun, and even though there are some of these I don't like so much, there are some I like alot. Personal favourites are probably number 6 and number 13.
1. Comfort
Archer wondered what it said about him that his one source of comfort was an outcast - he wished it would not bother him so at times.
2. Kiss
Their first kiss had been a rushed, rash affaire, with lips, half unwilling, locking in a gloomy alley just by dusk.
3. Soft
That killing grasp could be so soft at times, when stroking away tears or when grabbing hands to share joy, making the receiver wonder if the death they gave was just as tender.
4. Pain
When he asked Archer what was so special with pain, the man did not dare to answer, fearing that the answer would be too perverse.
5. Potatoes
The day they signed the papers for Kimbley’s return to the military, they peeled the potatoes for dinner together, and had them with steak and a fine glass of wine by candlelight.
6. Rain
His tears mingled with the rain, and he did not stop running until the other caught up, held him tightly and let them both get soaked by the downpour.
7. Chocolate
‘Will you be getting me chocolate tomorrow?’ Kimbley asked the night of the thirteenth of February, but Archer did not answer, just turned on his side and tried to decide if milk or dark chocolate was best for the occasion.
8. Happiness
One night, lying in each other’s arms, they both asked themselves if this was what others called happiness.
9. Telephone
Whenever the telephone rang, Archer asked him to be silent, so no one would hear he was there.
10. Ears
Archer adored the way the hair went from being short to being incredibly long just by Kimbley’s ears, which became enframed by dark locks when he let out his queue.
11. Name
However Archer pronounced and stressed the other’s name, it still reminded him of all unbound, horrid and beautiful he never dared to see.
12. Sensual
Nothing had ever been sensual before, but watching Kimbley lick his lips to free them from any stain was almost as strong as the climax before.
13. Death
The alchemist had said that he did not fear death, but one morning as he watched Archer bustling around making tea and at the same time complaining over all the paperwork that needed to be done, he realised that for the first time for years and years, perhaps for the first time in his life, he had found something that might make him fear dying.
14. Sex
They never had a name for it, as Archer would not speak of it, not even when they were in bed; those actions were only represented by pictures in his mind - bodies rocking together and separating, lips disuniting and finding each other, eyes closing and mouths falling open in a thirst for more.
15. Touch
They never touched in public, apart from letting their hands brush together once in a while, but once they were alone they would spent hours only feeling each other’s skin and hair.
16. Weakness
Sometimes he thought the weakness was wearing off, that he might be able to rid himself of his worries and sorrows, but perhaps the shoulder to lean on had made him weaker, although in a more pleasant way.
17. Tears
‘Tears are just salt water, they need to return to the Sea,’ Kimbley said once, seating beside him and stroking his hair, ‘so by all means, let them out.’
18. Speed
He told him to be quick in Lior and not linger too long - he himself sat by his desk, not being able to turn his eyes from the clock.
19. Wind
Archer dreamt of meeting his alchemist in the square before Headquarters on a windy day, and as he awoke, maimed and bleeding, he thought he could almost feel Kimbley’s hair playing on his cheek in the wind.
20. Freedom
Freedom was nothing he had known before, and as its vivid folds and embroideries first embraces him, he made a vain effort to fight it back.
21. Life
Life had never tasted so sweet, or been so bitter to loose.
22. Jealousy
He inquired about Mustang with a sting of jealousy in his voice, and would not let the matter drop for almost half an hour, but Kimbley could only smirk at his possessiveness.
23. Hands
Kimbley followed his hands and watched the graceful fingers and careful grip as Archer signed documents and flipped through bundles of papers, only pausing once in a while to smile at him.
24. Taste
His skin had the taste of everything he had never had; a safe embrace, happy summer days and merry wishes of well-being.
25. Devotion
‘You’re absurdly devoted, you know,’ Kimbley said once, and Archer turned to hide his embarrassment over this sudden comment over his work.
26. Forever
They never said forever, from fear of it being a lie.
27. Blood
Blood flew everywhere as the rouge detonated, and when the smoke disappeared they stood for several moments, only smiling at each other’s bloodied get-ups.
28. Sickness
Before leaving for Lior, he was sick because he was so nervous, but Kimbley did not complain, but helped him to bed and stayed with him until he felt better.
29. Melody
On the train, Kimbley hummed some melody, and when he realised that it was the same that Archer so often hummed, he felt like yelling this show of their tie out to the whole world.
30. Star
The alchemist saw the light of a falling star twinkle in his companion’s eye when he caught his glance, as if his soul was set alight.
31. Home
Home was not the flat, but the big house Kimbley had never seen, where Archer dutifully had dinner once a week and never dared to mention him.
32. Confusion
The confusion of the fight with the Ishbalite hollowed out his mind, but he could not concentrate - he was distracted - only the thought of death and separation was known to him.
33. Fear
He sensed that the colonel was afraid, but knew that trying to calm his pessimistic mind would only make him more agitated.
34. Lighting/thunder
The thunder sounded a lot like explosions, and Kimbley stood for hours by the bedroom window, listening to the booming sound that even screeched over the ring in his ears.
35. Bonds
How come the bonds that bruised his wrists so enhanced this pleasure?
36. Market
After catching Kimbley literarily red-handed after blowing up a bunch of tomatoes, Archer suspended him from grocery shopping.
37. Technology
Technology patched up his body, but no machine or earthly power could redeem his mind, that had collapsed by a stroke of bad luck.
38. Gift
His giving him the ring with the Red Stone in some way sealed their liaison, as if it was an engagement gift.
39. Smile
The alchemist saw his protector, keeper, friend on the other side of the conference room, where they were stuck planning what to do in Lior, but he thought he saw the hint of a smile, directed at him.
40. Innocence
Either if innocence was unblooded hands, purity of the body or a collected and calm mind, they had never possessed it.
41. Completion
In the red light of the transmution, their tragic and elaborate symphony was completed and perfected.
42. Clouds
Kimbley suggested that they would go to the park, lie on their backs and look for shapes in the clouds, now when spring was coming, but convincing Archer turned out to be quite a challenge.
43. Sky
The sky wept, shedding its tears on them as they walked through the rain, a few strides apart, too numb from fighting and consoling one another to speak.
44. Heaven
Why could he not let the pain out, he wondered, and cry to the heavens and beat the ground, all to lament the passing of his only comfort?
45. Hell
Archer had never believed that anything would happen after death, but after passing out on the train from Lior, confined on his bier, and then waking up in his small underground cell, he thought that he had died and come to Hell.
46. Sun
A Sunday in the late spring, when, Archer at last gave in to his alchemist’s constant asking, packed a picnic and spent some hours around noon in the Sun, blissfully doing nothing in the country, where no one would look for them.
47. Moon
In the dark, when he coyly drew away from him in a fit of reservation, his skin had the same colour as the Moon’s silver surface.
48. Waves
Sometimes, Archer caught himself looking up at his own bedroom window, to see Kimbley wave at him, as if to pay back for all the time he had never been waved off.
49. Hair
During his more bold moments, he would think of the future, and imagined them both wrinkled and white-haired, still arguing and laugh together, as now.
50. Supernova
The world went out as the bullets bored into him and he fell, and in the middle of the supernova, he thought he glimpsed the silhouette of someone with his queue beating in an unmoving wind.
