Title: Fifty Moments
Fandom: Stargate: SG-1
Pairing: Daniel Jackson & Jack O'Neill
Theme Set: Alpha
Rating: from G to R.
Author's Notes: Yes, I've finally finished. I know it took me awhile (i beg forgiveness, oh great and mighty sakupyoncandy!), but here they are! Just as a quick note, these contain spoilers for all seasons of Stargate: SG-1, and some of them are quite AU... also, this is obviously a slash pairing. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it. And, on a final note, I'd like to dedicate these, actually, to an author on fanfiction.net -- Orrymain. It's because of Orrymain's works that I came to love this pairing so damn much, and I thank her for it!
01. Comfort
It all started right after they’d brought Daniel back from Abydos - Jack saw him standing there, in the hallway, looking like a lost little puppy, and it was simply irresistible, the need to comfort this man; Jack was drawn to his pain, a pain that matched his own, and he sought comfort for them both.
02. Kiss
Daniel could babble and prattle better than anyone Jack knew (with the possible exception of Major Samantha Carter), and while babbling generally annoyed Jack, he thought it was actually quite cute when Daniel did it - not to mention that the best way to shut Daniel up was to kiss him, and that was always a perfectly acceptable solution to Jack.
03. Soft
Men were not soft - men were creatures of strength, of hard planes and muscles and sharp angles; Daniel’s hair was soft, as was his skin and his lips, and his eyes were a gentle shade of blue; but he was still a man, and Jack found the combination of the soft and the hard to be absolutely perfect.
04. Pain
“I don’t know if I can do this, Jack - I mean, if you decided this wasn’t what you wanted, or if the military found out and interfered, and you left me - I don’t think I would be able to deal with it; the pain would kill me.”
05. Potatoes
“You know, Daniel, you should never take the usefulness of potatoes for granted - no, seriously, because Grandma O’Neill always used to say that you could use a potato for anything; plus, potatoes make great weapons - just look at the genius of the potato gun!”
06. Rain
“Oh, just great - it’s raining again,” Jack exclaimed to his team after they had come through the ‘gate, the five day mission to PX-whatever having just begun, but the rain was all worth it later, after the tents had been set up, and he was able to cuddle with Daniel.
07. Chocolate
Chocolate was Daniel’s one vice - he could never get enough of it - and Jack indulged him by buying him any sort of chocolate, or chocolate derivative he could find; of course, Daniel thought that it was simply because Jack hated being around a cranky chocolate-deprived archaeologist, and Jack would never say that he actually just loved the way that Daniel always tasted like the sweet treat.
08. Happiness
Daniel defined happiness as ancient artifacts, digging through the earth for buried history, and completing a difficult translation; Jack defined happiness as flying, beer, and fishing; they also both defined happiness as being together.
09. Telephone
It never failed - they’d get a moment alone, or they’d both be on downtime, and so they’d spend time together; but the universe hated them, they thought, and the gods (the real gods, not the Goa’uld) enjoyed laughing at them - because the phone always went off just as things were getting good.
10. Ears
“My ears are not funny looking,” Jack exclaimed one night; when Daniel had asked what had brought the rather random statement on, Jack had relayed how his ex-wife had always thought that his ears were not quite suited for Jack’s head, but Daniel reassured him that his ears were fine just the way the were.
11. Name
“It’s just another name, another title - no big deal,” said Jack upon being promoted from Colonel to Brigadier General - but it was a big deal to Daniel, and he made sure to celebrate it with Jack that night at home.
12. Sensual
Jack would never describe himself as a sensual guy, but when he was with Daniel, it was very difficult to keep his hands to himself - not that Daniel minded, but Jack did pride himself on his self-control (that always seemed to go out the window when Daniel was around).
13. Death
It was radiation poisoning, Janet had said, and there was nothing she could do about it; the one person that truly mattered, the one person he would give his life for, the one person he loved - that man was lying in the medlab, dying, and there was absolutely nothing Jack could do to save him.
14. Sex
“I love you,” is what Jack had whispered as he climaxed the first time they ever made love, but Daniel didn’t need to hear the words - he’d already felt Jack’s love coursing through him in every touch and every kiss.
15. Touch
Jack was a tough guy, a trained soldier - and it surprised Daniel at first that Jack’s touch could be so very gentle, and yet so demanding at the very same time.
16. Weakness
The Colonel had always prided himself on being a strong man and soldier, one with very few weaknesses that could be exploited if he ever got into a hostile situation; that all changed when one scruffy archaeology was assigned to his team and somehow managed to worm his way into the Colonel’s heart - Daniel was Jack’s one weakness, but he really wouldn’t want it any other way.
17. Tears
He didn’t cry at Daniel’s funeral - no, he shed not a single tear - because he had to be strong, for the rest of the team, and for Daniel, whom he knew was watching from wherever it was that he’d ascended to; but after everything was over and done with, and Jack was finally alone in the privacy of his home, the home he’d shared with Daniel - that’s when he allowed the tears to come.
18. Speed
When Daniel was in the midst of a translation, or in the middle of an archaeological exploration, time always seemed to slow down or become non-existent; Jack always brought his world back up to speed.
19. Wind
It was so much like flying, or like a free fall, that Jack could almost hear the wind rushing past his ears; it was overwhelming, this love he felt for Daniel, but he couldn’t imagine it being any other way.
20. Freedom
It had been a long few years, but the Stargate program was finally made public - which meant Jack could retire (which he did), so that he and Daniel would finally be able to freely live their lives together.
21. Life
They found Daniel on some random planet, with no idea who he was or who they were - but that didn’t matter to Jack, really, because the most important thing in the world was that Daniel was alive, and they had him back.
22. Jealousy
“Daniel, you know there’s nothing going on with Carter and I - it’s just rumors, and you know how much everyone loves to gossip around the base, and you know I don’t discourage it because it makes a good screen for you and I,” Jack told his lover; rationally Daniel knew that Jack and Sam would never have any kind of relationship, and had in fact agreed (as had Sam) to let the rumors run rampant - but it didn’t make him feel any less jealous.
23. Hands
Two hands, clasped tightly; one older and one younger, one sun-kissed and one fair - but both calloused from hard work, and fighting for their lives - and in their difference, they are the same.
24. Taste
For Daniel, the taste of Jack was just as sweet, delicious, and addicting as chocolate - and that was saying something.
25. Devotion
“I knew karaoke night was a bad idea,” Jack groaned as he, Sam, and Teal’c watched a very drunk Daniel belt out that song from Grease; Sam smiled and poked Jack’s side, “Sir, come on - he’s hopelessly devoted to you, he can’t help it!”
26. Forever
Being held hostage by a Goa’uld and repeatedly killed then brought back to life really sucked, Jack had decided, but maybe Ba’al would finally get bored and let him die for good - then he would be with Daniel again, forever.
27. Blood
“Jack, really, I’m fine - it’s only bleeding a little,” but Jack wouldn’t listen; Daniel sighed as he was dragged down to the infirmary to see Janet, all because he had tripped and managed to bust his forehead on a bookshelf in his office while Jack was there - and though Daniel dearly loved Jack, he thought the older man was too much of a mother-hen most of the time!
28. Sickness
“You know I’ll always be there for you, Danny - in sickness and in health, and all that stuff… Actually, come to think of it, it should be more like ‘in sickness, and in concussion, and in broken limb, and…’”
29. Melody
“Oh Danny boy,” Jack crooned softly as Daniel was just starting to fall asleep; and Daniel let the soft melody lull him to sleep, wrapped securely in the arms of his love.
30. Star
While Daniel was on Abydos, during that blissful year with Sha’uri, he would often stargaze at night; one night Sha’uri asked him why he stared at the stars for so long, and he smiled, “Well, Sha’uri, I have decided to give everyone from my home a star, so that I can look in on them every night, since I miss them so - that one is Earth, and the two right next to it are my parents, and the bright one just to the right of them, the one that looks like it’s winking, that one is Jack.”
31. Home
‘Home’ - the word was associated with many different things for Daniel: Egypt was home, it was where he grew up and where he lived with his parents; Abydos was home, for that is where he lived with his wife and her tribe; Colorado was home, because he worked at Cheyenne Mountain and lived nearby it; but most of all Jack was home, because ‘home is where the heart is’.
32. Confusion
Throughout all the confusion about Daniel’s miraculous return to life after nearly a year of being ‘ascended’, Jack was simply grateful that the man he loved so dearly was finally back where he belonged - on Earth, working for the SGC, and by Jack’s side.
33. Fear
Daniel’s greatest fear in all of this was losing yet another person he loved, and it took him a while to realize that Jack shared this fear - and it simply brought the two of them closer.
34. Lightning/Thunder
The thunder crashed, the rain poured, and every now and again lightning would arc across the sky in a brilliant flash - but Jack ignored it all as he sat next to Daniel and across from Carter and Teal’c in a tent on yet another alphabet-soup planet, telling stories about whatever came to mind in order to pass the time; Jack couldn’t help but think this was one of the best missions in a while, because there was nothing he loved better than spending time with his team, his family.
35. Bonds
Daniel opened the small box with a certain apprehension - it was his birthday, and this present from Jack looked suspiciously like a ring box from a jeweler’s - “Happy birthday, Danny,” Daniel took the silver ring out of the box, staring at it’s intricate Celtic knot work, “I, uhm… the bond between you and I is something unbreakable - I mean, I just wanted to give you something physical… you know, just because.”
36. Market
The open-air market in the middle of Cairo was packed full of people trading and shopping and simply visiting with friends and acquaintances; there were entirely too many people for Jack to be comfortable in this atmosphere, but he forgot all about his unease when he saw Daniel had that ecstatic smile on his face.
37. Technology
In the moments after Jack relayed the message from Daniel, he began to doubt himself - would letting Daniel simply die be the right thing, or should they rely on the Tok’ra technology to possibly make the archaeologist better?
38. Gift
The greatest gift Jack ever received was the return to life of the one person he loved and valued above all; the greatest gift Daniel ever received was finally remembering his relationship with Jack, and being granted the opportunity to pick up where they had left off before his rather unfortunate demise and subsequent ascension.
39. Smile
Jack felt that Daniel hadn’t had nearly enough to smile about in his life, and so he made it his mission to make Daniel smile at every possibly opportunity through any means necessary.
40. Innocence
After nearly a year of going through the ‘gate together, Jack realized with that Daniel really needed to be trained up to fight more like a soldier, in order to better protect himself - but Jack hated to spoil that last bit of innocence Daniel had left.
41. Completion
They didn’t really consider themselves gay - after all, they had both been married to women whom they’d loved deeply and had been incredibly attracted to; no, their relationship wasn’t about society’s labels and constructs - Jack and Daniel found that they somehow completed each other, and that was all they really needed to know.
42. Clouds
“Look at that, Danny - it’s not every day you see a cloud shaped like Homer Simpson on an alien planet!”
43. Sky
They were spending their hard-earned downtime at the cabin; they’d spent the afternoon sitting on the dock, fishing and talking and simply sitting, but now they were laying on the grass, watching the sky as it changed a myriad of colors during the peaceful sunset.
44. Heaven
Jack was not a religious man - after the death of his son, he really couldn’t find any way to believe in any sort of god - but after he and Daniel admitted their feelings to each other, he thought maybe he could be wrong, and there might be a heaven after all.
45. Hell
“Well, you know, Jack, not many people can say they’ve been to hell and back again,” Daniel gave a tired smile as they finally arrived back at the SGC, trying to bring a bit of levity to the situation they’d just endured on Netu.
46. Sun
It was the quiet moments at home that Jack enjoyed the most - like those rare mornings when he and Daniel could sleep in, or rather, those mornings that Daniel could sleep in and Jack would get to watch the sunlight creep in through the window and play across Daniel’s skin.
47. Moon
Daniel and Jack sat on the roof deck, simply staring at the stars, the full moon bathing them in pale silver light, each of them grateful for this quiet moment together.
48. Waves
“It’s so nice to get away once in a while,” Daniel sighed as he leaned against Jack, the two of them watching the waves crash and break on the shore as the sun set - and Jack silently agreed, making a promise to himself to take his lover on vacation more often.
49. Hair
“Jack, I will not cut my hair, and that’s final,” Jack tried to hide his grin as Daniel huffed - and he’d never let Daniel know that he secretly loved the shaggy look on the younger man, because it was just too damn fun to tease Danny about it.
50. Supernova
“Would you be my supernova girl -- ...guy...” Jack grinned goofily and Daniel sighed, vowing never to let Jack watch the Disney channel or any of it’s original movies ever again.
