Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Remus Lupin/Narcissa Black
Theme set: Epsilon
Rating: PG-13
Motion-
One swift moment, and Remus is in a closet- dark and dusty- being attacked by some blonde maniac.
Cool-
Cool is a state of mind, Remus thinks- panicking as she undoes his top buttons and kisses him hungry- and he tries to not to loose his head, or scream, or protest, because that would be really uncool right now.
Young-
We’re scared of loosing our youth, of growing old, and loosing these sacred, stolen moments.
Last-
“Maybe we should end this,” he breathes, her hands in his hair, and they’re so close they melt into each other.
Wrong-
It’s not right, they both know it, but it’s not exactly wrong, either.
Gentle-
And to think she looked like such a sweet, gentle girl, Remus reflects bitterly, wrapping the scarf around his neck to hide the marks.
One-
A solitary figure behind the trees, lighting a cigarette, wonders if she really likes him, or if she’s just lonely… fuck, he knows the feeling.
Thousand-
Of the thousands of losers she could have picked, she thinks, sunlight on her skin, this one seemed special somehow- out front but hidden and mysterious… different to the rest.
King-
She’ll marry a king one day, he writes on a piece of parchment, and live in a palace… now: let her have fun with the pauper.
Learn-
“Where were you?” Sirius asks, and Remus says, “in the library…uh… learning stuff.”
Blur-
Some days are a blur of blue eyes and stolen kisses, and the smell of frangipani.
Wait-
She told him not to wait up- she’s with Malfoy now… Remus counts the bricks, and is sleeping when she eventually returns (he’ll never know she spent half the night just watching him).
Change-
When he finally told her, nothing changed- not a shudder or a cringe, she just rolled her eyes and said, “big deal, who cares”,- and he almost loved her for it.
Command-
Narcissa isn’t married, not even technically betrothed… but for some reason she still feels like she’s breaking the seventh commandment.
Hold-
“Why do you use me?” he asks (they are walking by the lake, and the moon is slim and fragile), and she looks away and says, “because you don’t hold me down… with expectations, or promise…” Remus isn’t sure how to feel about this.
Need-
“You need oxygen, you need… chocolate- but you do not need another pearl necklace,” Remus tells her sternly, “it’s just indulgent… tell him you don’t want it.”
Vision-
He starts to dream of her- and wakes in a cold sweat, haunted by her voice, caught between love and hate… and then he cries, because he can never tell her.
Attention-
“Now, one of the important, albeit less well known causes of the Goblin Wars- I suppose because scandalous and goblin in the same sentence is a bit disturbing- are you paying attention? This is important…” she looks away from his open collar and says faintly, “uhm… got distracted.”
Soul-
“He says your soul is separated into two when you come to earth, and your entire life is spent searching for the other half- and sometimes you’re even lucky enough to find it…” Andromeda tells her sister, who smiles, and plucks petals off a flower.
Picture-
If Malfoy found out, Remus knows he’d be dead in seconds… he gazes at the portraits and wonders if any of them know, or even care, and if he’s just being paranoid.
Fool-
Narcissa picks at her desert (fruit puree and whipped cream), and tries not to stare at the Gryffindor table, but is it a coincidence he also picked the fool?
Mad-
“There’s madness in the family … it’s the inbreeding…” says James darkly, and Remus wonders if maybe (and the idea is laughable), maybe after so many generations, he could be the one to end it.
Child-
She’s turning seventeen tomorrow, her childhood cut short- Lucius will propose… what happens will inevitably happen, but she doesn’t want it to.
Now-
“Today the dreaded future arrived,” Remus says through grit teeth, “congratulations, you’re officially his now.”
Shadow-
There are shadows beneath her eyes, she’s been up all night crying, and when he walks past to the Gryffindor table, and the morning light catches gold in his hair, she bursts into tears, because he won’t even look at her.
Goodbye-
“There’s no reason why we have to say goodbye now,” she pleads. “We still have an entire year together… Lucius only visits now and again…” and to make him (and maybe herself) happy, she slides the ring from her finger and pockets it.
Hide-
In the potions supply cupboard, peering through cracks in the wall, waiting for the class to leave so they can sneak out unnoticed, Remus wonder why hiding together is so wonderful.
Fortune-
She wears emerald on her fingers, white fur over delicate shoulders- diamonds hang from her ears and sparkle in her eyes… Remus watches and wonders at the depth of her superficiality.
Safe-
“If he beats you once when you’re married, I’ll rip out his fucking jugular,” Remus tells her, and she leans against his frail frame and knows he’s being completely serious.
Ghost-
Lucius Malfoy haunts their relationship, and Remus knows he’s helpless against it.
Book-
“Oh my god,” said Narcissa, flicking through Remus’ translated Chumash, “This guy slept with his daughters… you’re religion is juicy.”
Eye-
“Here,” he slips the red band over her hand, “my father bought it back from Israel, it’ll protect you from the Evil Eye”, and it dangles there on her white, delicate wrist.
Never-
“And the moral of the story,” says Sirius, when Remus is caught early that morning, sneaking back into the Gryffindor common room, “is never say never… who was she, mate?” and Remus says, “I’ll never tell.”
Sing-
He plays her ‘shine on you crazy diamond,’ on an old stereo, and it stuck in Narcissa’s mind for days, so she was always humming it under her breath, and thinking of Remus.
Sudden-
“Run away with you? I don’t know what to say, Lupin! It’s all so… sudden-“ “Who are you talking to?” a girl asks Narcissa, walking into the toilets, and the blonde blushes and turns away from the mirror.
Stop-
“Hold it,” Sirius shouts, “you’re not going anywhere until I find out who she is”, and there is a wild, furious look in his eyes that Remus can decipher exactly.
Time-
“… there’s just not enough of the shit,” Remus says, hastily doing up his shirt and smoothing down his hair, “I have to go apologies to your cousin- see you tomorrow afternoon, same time, same place?”
Wash-
It’s like the rain washes everything away: Remus’ heartache and guilt, Sirius’ heartache and fury, and when they get back to the castle soaking wet and laughing, all is perhaps forgiven.
Torn-
I can’t do this afternoon- Lucius is coming to visit, sorry darling, Remus tears up the parchment, and is careful not to meet anyone’s eye.
History-
“History of Magic is such a bitch,” Narcissa says, after receiving her results, “It’s all your fault, you distracted me with your stupid collarbones…” Remus thinks this is hardly fair.
Power-
Rumors is Lucius Malfoy has strong ties with the Magical Mafia- he Knows People, he Has Connections… and he glows with wealth and power as he walks past me, not seeing, not knowing… but he could beat me to a pulp without even lifting his wand.
Bother-
It really disturbs Remus (she’s with that fucking idiot) but he tries hard not to think about it and continues with his Charms homework, while Sirius, James and Peter attempt to fill the astronomy tower with explosives and then blow it up- just for laughs.
God-
“I’ve given it a lot of thought,” she says (to his immense surprise), “and I’ve decided I do believe in god… just not your Jewish one- my god is blond and has a pimp cane.”
Wall-
Remus pushes her up against the wall, kissing her hard, his hands moving up her skirt- she hitches her breath and wonders if waiting is really right…
Naked-
A magnificent explosion, fireworks and all, and Remus and Narcissa watch happily from the grass, his fingers making swirls on her bare skin.
Drive-
“Does being a werewolf give you extra libido?” Narcissa asks innocently, and Remus chokes on his chocolate.
Harm-
“All things must pass,” Remus sadly quotes George Harrison, as the year comes to an end, and Sirius grins at him, but Remus just thinks of blonde, beautiful Narcissa.
Precious-
He holds her in his arms for what might be the last time, and she’s crying even as he presses his lips against hers.
Hunger-
“You missed… the greatest feast of all time,” James informs him later, “But… I suppose you ‘weren’t hungry.’”
Believe-
Things fall so easily into place to keep them apart, and belief is too much hard work, so they agree not bother… at least… that’s what they said.
