1. Motion
Pr. Fine’s voice was compelling as he gives his first lecture of the fall semester on history and he noticed that he’s captured Clark’s interest easily ‘My plan so very gently is set in motion.’
2. Cool
The breeze was cool and refreshing to Clark as he walks to his next class thinking on the themes of history Pr. Fines had presented in class.
3. Young
Pr. Fines said "The young need to understand history, how it repeats itself over and over again in a grim parade even if it means a loss of innocence." as he looks straight into Clark’s eyes.
4. Last
"Lastly remember all truly great men have been brought low by the envy of the one they have put the most trust in." class dismissed.
5. Wrong
"Pr. Fines your wrong Lex isn’t his father."
6. Gentle
Pr. Fines slowly gathers Clark under his wing, gently guiding his thinking until Clark finds it harder and harder to disagree.
7. One
It was only one tiny pick to his finger, but Clark left Lana’s dorm feeling disturbed.
8. Thousand
‘Everyone is lying to me’ Clark thought enraged and distraught ‘all around me are thousands of enemies!’
9. King
"Lex you’re the King of Lies and you will pay for all that you have done."
10. Learn
"Kal-el learn from what has happened, someone infected you…Fines stares him down "who had the most to gain from you loosing control, who has never stopped trying to know your secrets; remember with humans it is always the person that you want to trust that betrays you in the end."
11. Blur
The days pass by in a blur as Clark broods on the possibility that Pr. Fines might just be right about Lex, the thought angers him and breaks his heart.
12. Wait
He knows enough to not push his prey, ‘ Let him become very desperate’ and waits with all the patience of a saint for Kal-el to seek him out.
13. Change
Lex notices the change in Clark, before even when he claimed that their friendship was over, he saw the hope and love in Clarks eyes, but now there is a cautiousness that he’s never seen before.
14. Command
Jonathon sighed "Martha I’ve never had to ‘command’ Clark to obey me before, I just don’t know what’s happening to him, but I’m afraid."
15. Hold
Fines works ceaselessly behind the scenes to sow discord with everyone in Clark’s life, to break all his ties and free him from all the holds that humans exert over him completely leaving him alone ‘Soon Kal-el you will turn to me, because everyone else in your life will have failed you.’
16. Need
One night his doorbell rings "I’m so sorry Pr. Fines, but I need answers…please help me" Clark whispers through his tears.
17. Vision
"Your father sent you here with a vision Kal-el, humans are weak, but you were chosen to give them hope and to free them from evil, it is your duty as the last King of Krypton to embrace your destiny and save these people from themselves" Fines told him while he gently held the distraught younger man close.
18. Attention
Clark listened, but found it hard to pay attention because he felt so safe and loved in those arms ‘Maybe I have found someone who won’t judge me…maybe I don’t have to be alone?’
19. Soul
After they had talked for a long time Pr. Fines walked Clark to the door, suprising the young man with a gentle kiss goodnight; as Clark left flustered, but elated he had to laugh ‘Oh Kal-el, I’ve been under your skin, I know you, and soon I’ll own your very soul.’
20. Picture
Fines had warned him that there were dangers everywhere and to give nothing away ‘It’s important that you maintain your façade to be above suspicion, an All-American boy with the picture perfect family, I have much to teach you before anything else can happen Kal-el."
21. Fool
Jonathon and Martha were not fooled, they knew something was happening to their son even if he insisted that nothing had changed; none of them knew of the tiny bubble of silver that had entered Clark's body when Fines had kissed him, but it had slowly started to do it’s work.
22. Mad
Lex knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that Clark was different, his eyes had never made Lex’s blood run cold before, it frightened him more than he would admit and drove him mad with rage ‘I’ll never have him now, Fines has somehow turned him against me, but how?’
23. Child
"Life here has not prepared you to become who you must be" Fines whispers to Clark as they lay in the darkness of Milton’s bedroom "but your no longer are a child Kal-el, its time for you to become a man."
24. Now
"Now I know why you’ve changed towards me Clark, don’t deny it Fines is your lover!" Lex couldn’t control his rage thinking ‘Clark don’t you understand that your mine?’
25. Shadow
As happy as he was, finally learning what it meant to be Kryptonian and having a man who really could understand him in his life, Clark couldn’t shut out the doubts in his mind that flickered like shadows in dark corners.
26. Goodbye
"My love I know its hard, but some day you will have no choice but to say goodbye to all the humans in your life, if for no other reason other than death; you have to face it Kal-el only you and I will never die."
27. Hide
Clark hid in his loft, his Fortress of Solitude and wept until he could weep no more and then he got up to stare out at the stars with bitter acceptance of his fate.
28. Fortune
"Your entire family is evil, it built its fortune at the expense of others happiness, wellbeing, and lives Lex and you know it, I can’t believe that I ever trusted you ever loved…" Clark spun around leaving a bewildered Lex staring at his back.
29. Safe
Brainiac made to journey to the Arctic in secret, quickly changing the crystals in the console so that Jor-el’s consciousness was trapped; unable to speak to Kal-el ‘You can’t be to careful, now I can safely start the second act my Lord.’
30. Ghost
‘Kal-el, King of Krypton help me. I am Zod your creator. Your enemies have trapped me, you must set me free, if you don’t all will be lost.’ Clark bolted awake sweating in fear; the voice had been so clear, it was as if a ghost had visited him and had laid its cold hands upon him.
31. Book
I’ve consulted the Great Book of the Spirit which covers all of Krypton’s history of religion, Zod is an ancient god of Justice and Mercy" Milton stroked Kal-el’s face lovingly "it is truly a miracle that he reached out to you for your help, you are indeed chosen my King."
32. Eye
"I don’t know exactly what you’ve done to Clark, Fines, but I will soon…" Lex’s had his most disconcerting mask firmly in place, "but remember this now I have my eye on you and I won’t stop until I get him back!"
33. Never
Only a short time ago he would have never have believed that Lex would threaten Milton ‘Im have to protect him, he’s my mentor, my lover and he’s in just as much danger as me now.’
34. Sing
Kal-el’s body sang in joy as the two made love, Milton, or Az-el (the alias he gave Clark) had told him that Kryptonians had senses beyond that of mere humans; as he came in his lover, he couldn’t doubt him this was beyond anything Lana of Lex had ever made him feel.
35. Sudden
The announcement over breakfast was sudden and horrifying to the Kents "Mom, Dad I’m moving in with Pr. Fines, he’s…like me, its time for me to learn the things I was meant to, please don’t try to stop me or I will disappear; if you get any ideas…I’ll do whatever I have to, to stop you do you understand?"
36. Stop
Jon and Martha changed, Jonathon gave up the idea of running for office and the two withdrew from the world, mourning their lost son, both aged years in a matter of months until Jon’s heart just stopped altogether leaving Martha alone to grieve for both.
37. Time
"My Lord have patience, Kal-el is almost ready, it will only take a little more time until he is under my complete control, he must be ready to act as the public face of your power without the slightest knowledge that he is but a pawn." Brainiac cowered on his knees before the voice of his creator.
38. Wash
"This was your fault Clark, you abandoned them, you’ve abandoned all the people that have ever cared about you; I don’t even recognize you anymore!" as Chloe stalked away in outrage Kal-l felt a sense of regret wash over him, but it was small.
39. Torn
As he stood outside of Lex’s mansion he was torn by indecision "Kal-el humans have a saying of ‘Keep your friends close and your enemies closer’ it's a wise course of action, Lex loves you, control and redeem him with that love; it will make the world a safer place for all of us." steeling himself he walked in.
40. History
"I knew you’d come back Clark, we have so much history together, I’ll try to be the man you need me to be." Lex told Clark, as they lay naked together, completely unaware that the other man had learned from his mentor how to manipulate the thoughts of others and scan them for information.
41. Power
"Lex I am special; I’m ready now to share with you all that you’ve wanted to know, but first you must take me to the spaceship as an act of good faith, you will be rewarded with power beyond your wildest dreams" Clark dangled the bait before Lex.
42. Bother
Lex was bothered by the fact that Fines joined them at Clark’s insistence, but gave in when Clark said, "Fines is just like me, he is my mentor everything he has done though it may have seemed strange was to get us back together, he just had to prepare me to take the steps to tell you that I am…we are aliens"
43. God
Fines turned to the shocked Lex "Only Clark can open this ship and retrieve from it the greatest wonder this world has ever seen (Brainiac had placed the crystal key their himself), Lex you are helping to resurrect a god!"
44. Wall
Soon the Crystal was in the console’s wall, releasing Zod from his imprisonment, he looked down in glee at the three and said "I have come to save this world, but it is you that shall have dominion over it."
45. Naked
All three (even Brainiac) froze in awe " You Lex Luthor shall rule this world, you Kal-el shall be its champion, and you…Az-el shall be my priest and their advisor here on Earth; gentlemen it is a day of days." Zod told them as he thought to himself ‘and any that oppose me will be driven naked and scorned to their painful deaths.’
46. Drive
Zod was pleased, the AI that he had built had succeeded beyond his expectations and both Kal-el and Lex Luthor would work his will on Earth in their own drive for power, at last he was a God indeed.
47. Harm
All too soon the people of Earth learned to bend to the will of the living God and his minions, those that didn’t quickly learned that not only would they, but all those that they loved would meet with fatal harm.
48. Precious
Kal-el ruthlessly crushed those he was told were evil without a qualm; it pleased his beloved "You are so precious to me, my love." whispered Az-el (Brainiac) as he gazed at the mighty son of Krypton who he had utterly enslaved.
49. Hunger
Lex gloried in his power, his desires had been fulfilled a hundredfold beyond that of any general or king in all of history, he crushed all of his enemies and his god’s with glee and he smiled when he watched his father’s gruesome death; he too was unaware that he was controlled by a program Brainiac had infected him with.
50. Believe
Zod smiled, his wishes were obeyed by Brainiac, Kal-l’s beliefs were whatever his lover told him, and Lex…well it was time for Lex to go, Zod was ready now to rule the world himself.
