01. COMFORT --
When Kairi was upset, she went to Riku: Sora was good for a laugh, but Riku was the one that would hold her close and kiss her cheekbone gingerly, offering a sort of protective comfort she wished she could always have.
02. KISS --
It had always amused Kairi that Riku could always be so confident--and yet falter when it came to a simple kiss.
03. SOFT --
It was amazing how her soft hands could make his tired, knotted muscles loosen after the day was done.
04. PAIN --
Kairi noticed the way he leaned against his sword after a particularly hard battle, the grimace of pain as he staggered to his feet--even if he tried to never let her know, giving her his best grin and proclaiming that he'd not even been touched.
05. POTATOES --
Sora was the only one of them that would eat raw potatoes, and that was why Riku and Kairi just shared that look before subtly tossing them away into the sand.
06. RAIN --
She hadn't even felt the rain as she followed Riku though it was pounding down in sheets; she was too distracted by the strange feeling in the pit of her stomach, the foreboding feeling that was telling her to hang onto his hand and never let go.
07. CHOCOLATE --
The only time he liked chocolate was when it had melted while she held it, when he licked it off her fingertips while watching her expression.
08. HAPPINESS --
Kairi had always been happy on the islands, content to spend her days with her friends racing and building things and dreaming of what might lay ahead.
09. TELEPHONE --
Riku hated using the telephone--and that made him wonder just why he allowed Kairi to call at any hour of the day to talk, making him wander around his house with the phone held between his chin and shoulder as he worked.
10. EARS --
His ears were his weakness--Kairi liked to whisper into them and watch him shiver.
11. NAME --
The question ('I'm Riku... what's your name?') had been the beginning of everything, starting with just her shy, questioning gaze.
12. SENSUAL --
It's everything he hasn't felt in years--grainy sand against his skin, cool water sweeping up around his legs, her fingertips brushing his forehead as she swept his bangs to one side.
13. DEATH --
'He can't be dead,' she'd repeated stubbornly, a hand touching her chest as she continued, 'I'd know it--he isn't dead!'

They talk about it once, but somehow the subject of sex just seems to make them both more flustered, and the conversation quickly turns to the worlds they've seen and whether or not the other one might have been there (and promises to visit them together one day).

He touches the ground in wonder, fingers grazing over the coarse sand; he reaches out to touch her skin, so smooth and soft in comparison; she rests her hand over his, gazing at his currently-sightless eyes and biting her lip in a sad anxiety.

She was his weakness (because what else could have gotten him to work for Maleficent?), but it was possibly the only weakness he didn't mind having.
17. TEARS --
'The only time I've ever cried was when I thought I'd lost you for good...'
18. SPEED --
She watches him training and stares in awe; there's no-one that can move as fast as him, she thinks.
19. WIND --
The wind whipped about him, grabbing at his hair and threatening his precarious position (hanging onto the top spire of a gigantic clock called Big Ben, feet braced against its roof), but Riku took no notice--his thoughts were on Kairi.
20. FREEDOM --
She desparately asks him if he really thinks it's worth trading his freedom for her heart, when she'd never really been in danger of losing it at all, but his answer is always the same: 'Of course it is--and I'd do it again, Kairi...'
21. LIFE --
It's only when he sees her heart, the life of her suspended before him on a crystallised string, that he realises just how beautiful she really is.
22. JEALOUSY --
He watches how she laughs with Sora and feels his hands balling up into fists, nails digging into his palms as he turns away with a forced smile.
23. HANDS --
His hands tell a story--the story of battles come from his rough, calloused hands; the story of love comes from the kisses she places on each of his fingertips before holding his hand and hugging him gently.
24. TASTE --
She can taste the tang of copper on his lips; her tongue darts out to lick it away, and she draws back with a little smile that somehow manages to reassure him that it's all going to work out okay--somehow.
25. DEVOTION --
A paopu signifies many things--love... devotion... eternity... it's the binding of their lives, the silent proclamation that they would do anything for each other.

And he will protect her--into eternity.
27. BLOOD --
She sees the blood spatter over the ground and lets out a cry, darting forward and biting her tongue, scared for him even as he weakly laughs the injury off and proclaims that he's perfectly fine, Kairi, and that she worries far too much...

His hand on her burning forehead is cool, the hand running over her back relaxing in its icy touch, but Kairi would rather wrap her arms around his neck and hug him, to thank him for being with her even now.
29. MELODY --
It was a simple child's lullaby that Kairi had been humming earlier, but Riku can't get it out of his head--and it's driving him insane.
30. STAR --
Kairi liked to look up into the sky and pick which star was her old home world; Riku looks up with only thoughts of where she is in his mind.

He laughs weakly, because she's the one that finally found him; she slings his arm over her shoulders and looks up at him while trying to support him, and she murmurs to him, 'Let's go home, Riku...'
32. CONFUSION --
Where is her heart, Riku wonders--Maleficent says that it's possible to retrieve it, but Hook will only say that it's gone for good... he wants to believe her, but he already knows he's doing wrong... 'What should I do, Kairi?'
33. FEAR --
He doesn't feel fear, not even when looking into the face of death--because it's all for her, anyways.
34. LIGHTNING/THUNDER --
The sound of a storm is what brings them both to the islands--Riku doesn't know how it will change everything.
35. BONDS --
The difference between him and Sora is that he knows his bond with Kairi is true, that she feels the same way about him as he does her--this much is evident just from the secret smiles and glances they share, private giggles and contented moments in the sun's rise (and he loves every moment of them).
36. MARKET --
Riku feels the stares of the natives upon him and shifts uncomfortably; how had Kairi managed to convince him going to market while he was like this (eyes covered from a recent issue with his imperfect sight, hand held in her own so that she could lead him between the stalls) was a good idea?
37. TECHNOLOGY --
The crudely-hewn wooden swords the boys carry are a far cry from the eloquent rapiers used in actual fights on the main islands, but Kairi prefers them--it makes it easier to ensure she doesn't cut herself when Riku stands behind her, hands over her own to help her learn to hold the sword and make a controlled swing with it.
38. GIFT --
Kairi still remembers the night he gave her the moondrop necklace she wears every day--she remembers the way stars were reflected in both it and his own eyes as he watched her open it.
39. SMILE --
He has a secret sort of smile, she's found--not the confident, arrogant, smirking smile he always seems to show to the others, but a littler, happy, almost shy smile that always makes her want to giggle and pounce him.
40. INNOCENCE --
She really is as innocent as she seems; even when he wakes up with her lying next to him she'll blush and try to stammer out some form of explanation (though he always just smiles and interrupts her with a kiss, but she still tries...).
41. COMPLETION --
She is his finish, his opposite, the waves to his land--although he longs to leave, Riku knows that he's content just being wherever Kairi is.
42. CLOUDS --
'If you ever meet a guy named Cloud, just turn away...' and she was giggling behind her hand, wondering if the Cloud she'd met was the same Cloud that Riku was describing from the arena.
43. SKY --
They are the three parts of the triangle--the sky, the sea, and the land, melding together as seamlessly as their counterparts (though the sea and the land are forever hiding from the sky, ebb and flow rising when it thinks the sky will not see...).
44. HEAVEN --
Heaven was just a step away, a step away, he kept reminding himself in rhythm with his footsteps--heaven was when Kairi would be back in his arms.
45. HELL --
He didn't like looking at Kairi while she was unconscious, even looking so peaceful in such an unnatural rest; it grated on his nerves and made every glance feel like he was burning in his own personal Hell, because it was all his fault that she was like this.
46. SUN --
When Selphie asked her what her favourite thing in the world was, her mind immediately jumped to the night before, watching the sunset from the paopu tree with Riku, leaning into his shoulder and feeling his arm wrapped tightly around her waist (but she couldn't say that; she told her something about stringing shell necklaces instead).

Kairi liked to tease Riku sometimes, to giggle and point out how the moon reflecting off the calm waters of the ocean looked just like his own light hair.
48. WAVES --
The waves between them are not only literal but metaphorical as well, but they're both the same in the end--with patience and time, they'll always smooth over.

Riku loved to tug at her hair, smirking as he asked just how short she planned to chop it this time; a year later he was shaking his head in wonder, running a hand through the dark red locks and smiling in amusement, even as she grinned and kissed him in return.

Riku's eyes go wide when he realises the supernova before him is of his doing--and then he looks away as he realises just what Kairi would have to say about it (she'd disapprove, he knows...).
