Set Gamma - Collapse

Warnings: Punctuation was abused in the making of these sentences.

Rating: All the way up to a heavy R depending on how a few sentences are read.

.26. Ice

Sokka was born from it, used live on it, and will probably die there, home; Ty Lee only knows it as a way to reduce to the swelling of strained muscles.

.05. Run

It isn’t running - it’s a strategic retreat, but Sokka still can’t escape from the foot that connects with his face.

.41. Wait

He is going to move before her - it is his impatience, she knows this about Sokka - and he knows that he shouldn’t have when her hands come from nowhere and he’s tingly.

.04. Box

Sokka’s brain knows that the girl can’t fit into that square, not possible, not with all that body, and clothes and - oh… well, with all that body.

.33. World

The Earth Kingdom just had to be humongous and he just had to get lost and stuck with that crazy girl, didn’t he?

.45. Eclipse

There is a disgust because he’s using Ty Lee (her body contorts, a leg moves in an impossible way, toes pointed, graceful), but then coins clatter on to the mat, promising food for at least tonight.

.08. Cold

“Here,” and Ty Lee is too frozen to catch the parka properly, but somehow manages to shiver into it; his odor is all over it, but she folds her legs up under the fur anyways and covers her red nose, before finally mumbling a thank you through the thickness.

.47. Highway

“This is how you travel,” she’s delighted, and Sokka is reminded of another, more beautiful girl, but he nods anyway (if she moves closer to him, he’s getting off though); Ty Lee moves, climbing, she’s soon standing on the raise edge of the saddle, feet planted wide and arms opened to the wind and smiling like an idiot and he tells himself later that he tackled her down with a heavily beating heart only because he didn’t want Appa to feel guilty for her death and it was a normal reaction anyway!

.46. Gravity

Two identical sets of grey eyes regard each other and fresh laughter fills the air around him - Sokka does not understand what is so funny about gravity.

.42. Talk

They started relating first with their bodies, and so when the time comes for a real conversation, he’s left blank, but wanting.

.48. Unknown

Sokka won’t ever tell Ty Lee, but he does enjoy those scandalous court stories about Baron what-his-face and Mistress blah-blah.

.09. Red

The majority of Sokka’s life is colored blue, but then Ty Lee came along - not quite Fire Nation (pink?!), not quite anything else.

.27. Fall

Whump and Sokka is hiccupping and snorting with laughter because Ty Lee just tripped and the look of complete disbelief on her face is beyond any price.

.18. Dream

“You don’t actually believe in that stuff, do you?” Sokka asks, pointing to that small white rectangle in her hand and cookie bits that once held the secret, but then her fingers wrap up and - “Yes… I do.”

.21. Silence

Toph grits her teeth, annoyed, because Ty Lee is about auras and the universe, but Sokka is about science and factual explanations - these are the areas they refuse to be mute about, especially when the other is near.

.13. View

Ty Lee is just another airhead, but then Sokka sees her.

.23. Fire

She is screaming, asleep, and she must be burning up inside her mind because he recognizes the movement of trying to put out a flame in the way Ty Lee slaps at her legs and torso; Sokka is forced to question why a Fire Nation girl would fear the fire as Katara moves to comfort her.

.19. Candle

Katara has twisted Ty Lee’s hair into something like a Water Tribe style; Sokka feels a flame light somewhere in his ribs.

.10. Drink

Ty Lee is moaning past her retching that the universe thinks she’s going to die, but he takes her shoulders and rubs her back and then she turns and throws up on him - hey, the universe has never been wrong before and the night is still young….

.12. Temptation

Sokka caved: his hand is on the smooth exposed skin of her back, feeling the warmth, the- “AHH, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” and Ty Lee releases his bruised wrist, moving away from him quickly.

.39. Overwhelmed

Sokka is staring at a slim ankle and he’s not sure why he can’t focus:  because he can see a scar marring the soft dimple there or because she just slammed him to the floor?

.30. Body

There is the curve of her hip pressed into his stomach, there is the skin of her calves rubbing his forearm, there is the bone of her shoulder meeting his; the pure solidness of Ty Lee against him is stirring nerves, but then he stumbles slightly, her sprained ankle is jostled, she gasps; Sokka is confronted with her frailty, holds her tighter and apologizes.

.25. Mask

They break apart, donning their disguises because the end of the war took away their only good reason.

.34. Formal

“Lady Ty Lee,” stiffly spoken and Ty Lee politely offers Chief Sokka a bowl full of a slightly familiar Fire Nation snack - she looks too innocent when he starts to gasp for air, water, something to take away the heat of spice as the color of his face morphs into the red he hates so much (pretender).

.49. Lock

Combined, it is the dress that constricts her to shuffling steps, the sleeves that cover her fingers, the paint that hides the color of her skin - they separate Ty Lee from him, a wall he can’t get through, but not for lack of trying.

.22. Journey

When she was born, did the universe carve this path to him? because it feels to her that the grooves were always there, just waiting for them, the travelers.

.29. Dance

Without pride, but with a grimace, she says that she knows them all; Sokka realizes that there is a story there, one he wants to know.

.07. Wings

Sokka taught Ty Lee how to swim and she said that it was sort-of like flying as she floated in his arms.

.36. Laugh

He doesn’t snicker or ignore her when she can’t find the right word, and maybe that is why Ty Lee loves him.

.11. Midnight

He doesn’t touch her and Ty Lee tells herself that it’s because he’s tired… not because of the moon bright above them.

.38. Forever

“I will always be with you,” but Sokka hoped that Yue was lying so that she wouldn’t see this:  his palm flat against Ty Lee’s bare inner thigh and his mouth on her.

.40. Whisper

A murmur is too gentle for their love, but a shout, too harsh - if anything, they would probably classify it as a moan (of pleasure, he adds).

.15. Silk

Ty Lee can’t get the ties on his wrists undone and she begins to think maybe they shouldn’t have used that material to fasten Sokka to the bed - and isn’t he supposed to be the clever one?

.35. Fever

Yue invoked an excited nervousness within him; Sokka’s reaction to Ty Lee is something different - a massively more adult feeling - a burning passion.

.20. Talent

Ty Lee is still gasping silently as Sokka starts to move up her nude body, but then there is that sudden movement; both hands full of his ears, pulling him up and arching down to meet him, her taste still in his mouth.

.01. Ring

He knows that the Fire Nation probably has some screwed up symbol for betrothal, but he circles her body with his shaking arms and just asks anyway.

.02. Hero

He wanted to be her everything… because she was everything to him.

.44. Hope

He never really had anything personal riding on that bald little head - his sister had that covered - and then he thought Yue would be a source of salvation, something pure in all this suffering, but he was wrong; Ty Lee is his third shot, and Sokka can only hope that nothing blows it.

.37. Lies

It is only when Sokka sees the corpse that he begins to believe.

.06. Hurricane

Her body is in his arms broken, and Sokka wishes for his very own Avatar State so that everyone would realize that he, too, is broken.

.17. Promise

He said he’d protect her, she said she didn’t need it, and now they are both liars.

.24. Strength

Sokka’s analytical mind understands that nothing can overcome death… that doesn’t stop him from asking Yue to bring Ty Lee back to him.

.32. Farewells

There is no goodbye as the flames of the pyre reach great heights - Sokka will see Ty Lee again, this he is sure of, but this knowledge doesn’t ease the pain.

.50. Breathe

Sokka believed that they’d cleaned Ty Lee out of his life (they said they got everything), but there in the corner of the closet he found a crumpled pink shirt still swamped with her scent and he’s on the floor, back to sobbing too hard to draw in air.

.43. Search

Suki ’s hips slam into his; Look at me because I won’t let you pretend that I am her, but he can’t - he can’t and comes with his eyes still closed, ashamed and angry.

.14. Music

The Tribes favored drums, but Sokka would give up their comforting sound forever - even sound altogether - for the hated and mournful Sungi horn, if only to hold Ty Lee one more time.

.16. Cover

His body has become a rock wrapped in skin - how could he be human with her gone?

.31. Sacred

Sokka worships her and he can’t remember when he didn’t.

.03. Memory

He occasionally sees her figure in crowds, still, despite all these (fifteen) years of separation by death.

.28. Forgotten

They tell him that time heals all wounds; if remembering Ty Lee is a wound then Sokka will bleed out rather than sew up the memories of her with forgetting.

A/N: Inspired by the book Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson. Sentences are set in an AU/future-fic reality, in which Ty Lee joins up with the Gaang via an incident of misdirection in the Earth Kingdom. Sokka and she are in just right before the beginning of something and then the war ends. They go their separate ways before an encounter a few years later, in the Fire Nation, during which they have lots of hot and wild monkey smex. Sokka decides that he can’t live with out the smex Ty Lee, and proposes. Bliss for a year or so, and then Ty Lee’s horrible and tragic whoo! Angst death. The two separate phases of the relationship are divided by sentence #25, though the sentences within the phases are not necessarily in chronological order. Sentence #14 - avatarspirit.net claims that it is a ‘Sumki’ horn; this didn’t feel right to me, so I kept with Sungi - if I’m wrong, let me know.

Thank you for reading, criticisms welcomed and encouraged.
