Fandom: Final Fantasy X
Pairing: Auron/Rikku
Theme set: Alpha
Rating: PG13
Author's Notes: Beware the run-on sentences of doom! Also, mild spoilers for FFX.
#01 - Comfort
Home is gone and the sand is stained with blood and oil and Rikku almost breaks in half from the sorrow, but then Auron murmurs a few words in Al Bhed and she slowly regains herself, clinging to his arm until the well of tears inside her dries.
#02 - Kiss
She kisses him while they're walking - a surprise attack accompanied by a whoop of joy - and he manages to frown and grumble at her, but she's already doing cartwheels in the road.
#03 - Soft
Auron's soft voice carries as if he were yelling and Rikku gives in with a disgruntled sigh and puts the three potions back into their place in the merchant's bag.
#04 - Pain
"If you had just let me pocket those potions, I'd be all hunky-dorry and not a big pile of pain," Rikku hisses as he presses a cloth against a still bleeding wound, "Good job on that one, Legendary Guardian of Stupid."
#05 - Potatoes
Even though Tidus is rolling around in pleasure and Yuna sighs contently as she pops another steaming morsel into her mouth, Rikku absolutely refuses to allow a piece of ugly, dirty brown root-thingy past her teeth and Auron has no choice but to trade his meal of fresh fried fish for her plate of now cold potatoes.
#06 - Rain
She uses his big red coat as an umbrella and huddles against him as the rain falls, her lithe body all elbows and knees that dig into his side.
#07 - Chocolate
Someone has given Yuna a box of chocolates as a wedding present and Rikku maintains control over her fingers and takes only two pieces, handing one shyly to Auron and stuffing her own into her mouth before it says something indecent.
#08 - Happiness
Auron had thought that his chance at happiness had ended, his book has been finished and closed, but Rikku thinks otherwise and tells him every joke she's ever heard, including the dirty one that her father forbid her to repeat, and even though they're all terrible and more pathetic than funny, he smiles at her and feels a warmth in his chest like a summer day.
#09 - Telephone
Most of her collection of Al Bhed communication devices are destroyed in the attack on Home, but Rikku finds a pair in a spare pack and after dusting them off, she secretly deposits one in Auron's pocket (let him try to leave her behind now!).
#10 - Ears
She marches around the airship and does her best to convince everyone that she couldn't care less about Home and the smoke and the fire, but Auron hears her crying that night.
#11 - Name
Although it's spelled similarly, Auron doesn't quite rhyme with moron, so Rikku has to be more creative with her insults; however, Tidus' suggestion of "Auron the borin'" works in a pinch.
#12 - Sensual
He's allowed her a ride on his shoulders under the condition that she keep her lewd observations of Lulu and Wakka's love life to herself, so she amuses herself by dragging her tongue across the stubble along his jaw and inching her finger farther and farther down his shirt.
#13 - Death
He almost tells her about his final battle, but while he hears death and thinks of sleep, she thinks of crackling pain and burning homes.
#14 - Sex
His first time is her first time and her first time is his first time and everything's perfect and she's soft and wet and his, all his, and he's hard and hot and hers, all hers, and then goddammit! Tidus is knocking on the door and wants to know if it'll be dinner soon because he's hungry.
#15 - Touch
She touches him briefly on the arm before rushing out for her turn at the chimera and it's only after the battle that he realizes that he's missing a hundred gil.
#16 - Weakness
Rikku has a penchance for getting her hands into places they don't belong and the audacity to grin when she gets caught.
#17 - Tears
The Jecht sphere they've just found is a veritable cornucopia of hilarity and Rikku laughs herself to tears watching Jecht's impersonation of Auron - he got Auron's expression perfectly, right down to the grinding teeth - but it gets even better when the young Auron discovers the parody and chases Jecht in circles around the campfire.
#18 - Speed
Rikku is, at heart, a thief, and has never been opposed to a little deceit when the time calls for it, so when Auron climbs onto the speeder, but doesn't snuggle up, she doesn't hesitate to throw the vehicle into a spin to force him to grab hold of her.
#19 - Wind
Rikku comes flying up the path, the wind pushing at her back like a hand guiding her to his side for another dizzy embrace.
#20 - Freedom
At first Auron worries about their condemnation, but Lulu only smiles smugly and Tidus jabs him with his elbows and wags his eyebrows, and Auron realizes that he never really needed the permission they've granted him.
#21 - Life
"There's no point in living if you can't go skinny dipping," she bestows her wisdom upon him, a master teaching her apprentice.
#22 - Jealousy
Auron's pair of sunglasses are probably the best things ever and while she thinks he looks sexy/cool/awesome with them, Rikku knows that she's look pretty damn good in them, too.
#23 - Hands
Her fingers, nimble and quick from years of pulling apart machines and fiends, scramble over his chest and he thinks for a whirling moment that she'd be able to stitch up his unhealed wounds, if he let her.
#24 - Taste
The stuff in his jug tastes awful and it takes all of her effort to not barf it all up again and all she gets for her suffering is a headache and a lecture from the alcohol's proper owner, but she decides later that night when he strokes her sweat-dampened hair back from her face that it was totally worth it.
#25 - Devotion
She likes him right from the start; he read her secrets and then kept them secret, despite the trouble she was bringing with her, and Rikku vows not to disappoint him.
#26 - Forever
When she says forever she means it, even after her hair is grey or completely fallen out and her teeth are gone and her skin is floppy, and Auron tries half-heartedly to tell her that forever will end much sooner than that.
#27 - Blood
He still has nightmares about the feel of tearing flesh and sound of blood spilling onto the floor, but he has new dreams, now, too, and with them comes that discovery that waking up panting and slick with sweat can be a good thing.
#28 - Sickness
He's amazed that she continues to steal his jug, even though she's gotten sick the last three times she snuck a drink, but he has to admire her perseverance in the face of certain doom.
#29 - Melody
The song of the fayth is a warm blanket on a winter night and Rikku can't help but yodel along, urging him to join her because he really missed his calling as a back-up singer.
#30 - Star
The night's brisk, but the encroaching cold has yet to reach them, so they all lie on the grass while Lulu points out constellations and Tidus makes up ridiculous stories about them and Yuna and Wakka teach them a stupidly silly song that never ends and Rikku, wrapped warmly in Auron's arms, thinks about how gloriously awesome life is and promptly falls alseep.
#31 - Home
Neither of them have a home to return to, so she spins tales about the house she's going to buy him with illicit funds, and the pool in which she's going to teach him how to swim properly, and the dozens of chocobos she's going to raise and all the stupid names she's going to give them, and the dinners he's going to cook her because she's better at making grenades than meals.
#32 - Confusion
At firs he's baffled about her enthusiasm - fifteen-year-old girls do not typically find old, grouchy, ex-monks endearing - but few things she does make sense, so he learns to accept without judgment.
#33 - Fear
She's one of the three guardians who can swim, so she dives down to tackle the undersea fiends; Auron stomps around on the beach, growling at Lulu and Yuna and cursing everything from water to Yevon to his parents, until her head pops up out of the waves and he can breath properly again.
#34 - Lightning/Thunder
The night spent in the Thunder Plains will live on in infamy (bed-switching, pillow fights, and stolen kisses are but three of the adventures in which Rikku participates).
#35 - Bonds
He thinks, not for the first time, of the promises that keep him bound to life and the pain that will result when he breaks those bonds.
#36 - Market
He's forced to hold onto her hands when they stop at a market or else anything that's not nailed down will find its way into her possession (at first she deliberately made loud boasts about all the great stuff she'd steal in order to inspire him into action, but now he reaches for her hand out of habit).
#37 - Technology
Later she'll thank the day she thought to steal one of Jecht's spheres from Tidus; she watches the young Auron over and over and over, memorized by his quick smiles and dark frowns and sad eyes that she'll never she again see in person.
#38 - Gift
He grunts and feigns disinterest, but Rikku squeals with joy and does an impromptu and energetic dance when he hands her the neatly wrapped present, "How'd you know that I wanted a pair of sunglasses more than anything else?"
#39 - Smile
She takes the first watch and she's happy to sit semi-quietly by the fire, poking the flames in tune with the song she's singing (something about the awesomeness of treasure chests and airships and the color red) and Auron settles down into the warmth of his jacket and hides a smile in his collar.
#40 - Innocence
"Can't fight fiends for a living and expect to come out unscathed," she reasons with her hands on her naked hips, "'Sides, I've looked through Brother's secret stash of porno enough times to learn a few things."
#41 - Completion
Auron notes, not without a groan of satisfaction, that she fits perfectly against him - breasts press against his side, arms wrap around his chest, and her lips settle comfortably against his own.
#42 - Clouds
"Just a cloud passing over the sun," he says with gruff wisdom (he's always liked the nebulous nature of analogies).
#43 - Sky
They work well together - she dashes forward with a slice and a jab and hey-I-just-stole-your-wallet and he finishes them off with a slice and a growl and satisfying slash - and she counts the gil as he watches the pyreflies float into the sky.
#44 - Heaven
She can feel Auron standing behind her, even though he's not touching her, and she can imagine all the lectures he's just dying to give her (leaning over the railing is just asking for trouble; we're thousands of feet in the air, so don't even think of doing cartwheels; no, you absolutely cannot use my jacket as a parachute and leap off the edge of the airship) and she laughs because she knows he loves her, even if she does drive him a little bit crazy, and turns around abruptly to kiss him and hopes that the bright sunlight will blind Cid and keep her father from seeing what exactly she's doing to the Legendary Guardian.
#45 - Hell
He feels time passing now, minutes and moments slipping through the knotted wounds he's kept hidden for so long; death approaches now that Auron truly wants to stay alive (which figures - his luck has always been like that).
#46 - Sun
One of them is rubbing off on the other; Tidus watches in amazement as they adjust their sunglasses at the same exact time.
#47 - Moon
She looks older in the moonlight and when she tilts her head just so, Auron catches a glimpse of the woman he'll never see her become.
#48 - Waves
Somehow she's stolen his coat and stamps around the campground, desperately trying not to trip over the hem (he's just too damn tall - the jacket falls past her feet and puddles on ground in waves of scarlet cloth) and stumble face-first into the campfire; the long sleeves prove to be her downfall, however, and all he has to do to regain his possession is reach up and grab one as it flutters within arm's reach.
#49 - Hair
Rikku loves the way his hair looks - jet black with silver - but she does feel guilty when she realizes that she's probably done her fair share at causing all that grey.
#50 - Supernova
Yuna dances, even though Rikku's screaming at her to stop, and Auron fades away and something inside her chest bursts with painful brilliance, and she knows with unyielding certainty that it'll never heal up.
