Summary: Letting go: figuratively and literally.

Tell me if it's OOC. And the ending... yeah, I'm not even going to say anything. ;) These are a dime a dozen.

---

#01 - Motion
She didn’t dare move- not yet, not now.

#02 - Cool
Cool, calm- that’s what she’d be.

#03 - Young
The morning was still new- fresh- and she couldn’t help but look up every once and a while to see the sun beginning to peak slowly upward, like some invisible hill was below it and even though it tried its hardest, it couldn’t get to the top quite fast enough.

#04 - Last
Regardless, this was it, the end of it- not the top of the hill, but the bottom- the end of everything that she didn’t want to feel anymore.

#05 - Wrong
That… that wrongness that she felt.

#06 - Gentle
Her graceful hands drifted toward her pockets, gentle as could be.

#07 - One
One finger slipped in, hooking around something.

#08 - Thousand
A thousand little thoughts tried to tell her ‘no’ but she pushed them aside, roughly.

#09 - King
This was her time- time to let go- and she was going to be the one that ruled her life, not her conscience or regrets.

#10 - Learn
She’d learned a long time ago, that following those emotions would only make it worse.

#11 - Blur
Her vision blurred suddenly, green Besaid blending with the blue of the ocean that she suddenly just wanted to plunge into.

#12 - Wait
But she waited.

#13 - Change
She waited for the moment when it would be over and that ocean wouldn’t seem as inviting.

#14 - Command
Quietly, she told herself not to worry.

#15 - Hold
“Hold on,” she whispered.

#16 - Need
It was unnecessary, though.

#17 - Vision
Her vision had already cleared, and the day was now only half as chilly as she had imagined it to be.

#18 - Attention
Like a magnetic charm, her gaze was brought to the thing that had been in her pocket.

#19 - Soul
She felt her heart lurch- her soul- but she squashed the feeling down.

#20 - Picture
Instead, she pictured the things she would do when this was all over.

#21 - Fool
She’d laugh, she thought, at what a fool she was.

#22 - Mad
But she was only angry now, and sad, and broken.

#23 - Child
She was barely more than a child, barely grown.

#24 - Now
But she felt that she couldn’t be that very young- not now, not after everything.

#25 - Shadow
Now… she was going to get rid of that shadow that held on to her heart.

#26 - Goodbye
She’d say her good byes.

#27 - Hide
She wasn’t going to hide anymore.

#28 - Fortune
If her fortune were good- she’d never have to hide again.

#29 - Safe
With the hope of her future safe and sound, she cushioned herself with the thoughts.

#30 - Ghost
Ghosts can’t hurt you when you’ve led yourself to believe that they don’t exist.

#31 - Book
Like a scene from a storybook, Rikku gently set the object in the water, a princess ready to break her own spell.

#32 - Eye
Her eyes closed, her breathing nice and slow.

#33 - Never
She wouldn’t look back- ever.

#34 - Sing
She’d sing about this moment- that moment that would someday be joyous.

#35 - Sudden
But her fingers wouldn’t let go, and as her hands bobbed in the freezing water, with the sun just barely over the horizon, she felt like she suddenly never would.

#36 - Stop
She stopped.

#37 - Time
No, it was time.

#38 - Wash
She’d wash herself of this.

#39 - Torn
Even if it tore her into a million pieces, she would do it.

#40 - History
History is a powerful thing.

#41 - Power
It defines what we will do in the future.

#42 - Bother
Rikku didn’t bother to consult her past in this matter- the past clung on to too much- only steadied herself one last time, with the final bit of bravery that she could muster.

#43 - God
Wind blowing, mind rushing, she tried to pray to all of the gods that may or may not have existed to give her strength, and somewhere in the back of her mind, something began to loosen, to fall.

#44 - Wall
Her walls were falling, crumbling into a thousand little regrets that the water began to ebb at, her fingers sliding off of the smooth glass.

#45 - Naked
She felt naked, now, without it- her little bottle with the only thing he’d left behind.

#46 - Drive
Almost, she grabbed it again, but drove herself not to.

#47 - Harm
It would only hurt her to hold onto it, no matter how she wished it wouldn’t.

#48 - Precious
So, now she pushed it outward instead, out to the sea, out of her life- the little bottle that contained the only thing he had left for her- a snip of hair that she had stolen while he slept.

#49 - Hunger
It had been a joke, meant nothing, but now she hungered to get that small bit of nothing back.

#50 - Believe
The Besaid waters carried it away, bit by bit into the horizon that was much too blue for her to stand, and she couldn’t help but believe that perhaps letting go of her little keepsake was the worst mistake that she had ever made.
