Fandom: A Bit Of Fry And Laurie
Pairing: Tony x Control
Theme set: Alpha
Rating: R to be safe.
Notes: I've mussed up the order of sentences, but they aren't connected, except for a string of connected ones through #50 and #21. (Five sentences.) I'm dabbling in making up background information for some of these, so feel free to ask where I was going with an idea.
---
02. Kiss - Control wonders what the spy across the street will think of this, but the thought flees his mind as Tony gently kisses him.
03. Soft - Tony fingers the fabric of Control’s vest and finds it soft despite its stiffness.
01. Comfort - There isn’t the kind of comfort one likes in a job like this; job security fluctuates with the political weather, and the next thing Control knows, Tony’s desk job could be eliminated in favor of a Western France and Satellites desk job, assigned to someone else, not Tony.
04. Pain - It’s a paper-cut, and Tony sooths the pain with a kiss, then a band-aid.
36. Market - There is a trick to making coffee the way Control likes it, and Tony knows the trick: do not buy fancy brands of coffee; Control likes his coffee beans to be plain.
17. Tears - If Tony is a spy, than Control must do his duty, and there is a gun in his desk, but he never wanted it to come to this.
25. Devotion - Control is very aware of Mrs. Control’s cheating on him, but then again he knows she is very aware of his cheating on her with Tony.
49. Hair - Leads to hats, which leads to that hat rack in Control’s office: it’s been witness to a lot of things in its years as the hat rack to an MI6 agent, but Control takes the cake with Tony over the desk.
34. Lightening/Thunder - Control hadn’t done this in years; ‘Tony, you can come out from under the bed now, if you wouldn’t mind.’
28. Sickness - Tony crouched over the body and poked it, repulsed and yet still compelled to check the pockets for anything he could find - undercover work meant covering his tracks well.
14. Sex - Very gentle, very soft, often in Tony’s bed, it is a weekend activity, as by now they are no longer consumed by the lust they once had: (After the fireworks fade, it has to be love keeping them together.)
12. Sensual - As Control holds his wrist, checking his pulse, Tony wonders how he can keep that hand there without getting into deep trouble.
18. Speed - Stairwells aren’t the best place to have a shag, but after the hostage situation, Control cannot wait to reach home before assuring himself that Tony is alive and well.
08. Happiness - Eventually, he spends nights and days at Tony’s home - well-made coffee in the mornings, and somehow his entire record collection finds its way into Tony’s collection; (Mrs. Control finally calls and tells him to take all of it: they aren’t divorcing, it’s an agreement, but the house is hers, now.)
09. Telephone - Perhaps he shouldn’t be chatty with the enemy agents, but just because he knows them by (assumed) name doesn’t mean that he’s sharing secrets; besides, they stop watching his window when he asks.
10. Ears - He hears too many secrets, and when he is kidnapped (it happens to all agents, eventually) he says too much, but then again if they threatened Tony, he would give the Nazis the details on the Normandy Invasion if it kept Tony safe.
15. Touch - Their fingers brush when Tony passes the cup of coffee over, and as Control sips it he reaches out to pick up a folder to hand to Tony; work intrudes, but the moments in between are worth it.
13. Death - They’ve lost another agent, and the entire ring in Eastern Berlin is shutting down, and Control can only hand deliver the notices and a cup of coffee to Tony for comfort, as Tony has to write the letters to the families, who might or might not know if their husband/son/boyfriend is a secret agent, and sometimes they already think their husband/son/boyfriend is dead, or missing; (it hurts to confirm it.)
07. Chocolate - V-Day, whether it stands for Victory Day or Valentine’s Day, always brings chocolate éclairs to the offices of MI6.
30. Star - Control traces a star and other shapes on Tony’s back and sips coffee while Tony catches his last few minutes of sleep before they need to go to work.
35. Bonds - Tony really was glad Control wasn’t a Russian spy, because then he’d have to handcuff Control, and that sight would be almost too tempting.
31. Home - Mrs. Control understands that he only married her because of a certain undercover mission, and he understands that she married him because he seemed nice, and together they realize that they weren’t meant for each other, but that’s okay because they have a working business relationship and can live around each other; no divorce, though, that just isn’t done.
16. Weakness - Tony missed the hints, focused as he was on Control, and by the time he realized something was wrong, it was too late to stop it.
20. Freedom - Freedom is the ability to go home after work and know that you are being watched; Control closes the blinds and wonders when his work will stop following him home.
19. Wind - When Tony gets a vacation, he takes it, and he ends up on a beach somewhere, watching the waves and wondering how East Berlin is without him.
33. Fear - If they are discovered, will society sit up and notice, or will MI6 be left alone, left to be secretive; Control discreetly taps Tony on the shoulder as he leaves; it is a signal that no, he isn’t going home that night, he has to see his wife.
37. Technology - Who needs polygraph machines when one has watches and an excuse to touch Tony’s wrist?
46. Sun - He has spent too long inside, working long hours, and when Control does step outside, during the daylight hours, he fades under the harsh glare of the sunlight.
47. Moon - When a case lasts too long, when he must stay after, figuring out paperwork and making calls, his minute-long breaks become solemn vigils by the window, watching London by the light of the moon.
39. Smile - Control has the sweetest smile he has ever seen, and to know that it is meant for him and him alone - well, eleven ‘o clock is the perfect time for a cup of coffee.
40. Innocence - A surprising trait, for the head of MI6, but it is there, along with politeness, strength and a certain ability to figure out a solution for any problem, as long as it does not affect him personally.
11. Name - Control really was named Control, and he has no first name; Tony was Anthony, but he changed it when his sister named herself Anita; yes, Tony has a sister, or rather, had.
41. Completion - There is always, always paperwork, and when he completes one stack, another case comes up so he endeavors to time his work so there is never moment without paperwork; then cases come when they may, not when he thinks he is finished.
48. Waves - Control ducks out of the window and waves at Tony as he leaves, and then pulls himself back in, pleased that he has figured out how to lean outside without falling.
50. Supernova - When the bomb is dropped, Control watches the flames reach London and soon they will have to descend into the madness and find a way to stop the Russians from winning, but first he stands and watches the bright lights and holds Tony close.
45. Hell - The Russians are winning, and London is burning, and the streets are aflame and Control can only call Valerie and tell her the way underground, because even though it does not feel safe it is safer than the streets; it is the beginning of the mad runs to another, preplanned town where the government can regroup and try to maintain order.
06. Rain - They’ve lost London, but Control has Tony and Tony has Control and now the rain is here, putting out the flames of the ashes and maybe everything will work out for the good.
44. Heaven - The Americans arrive, eager to stop the ‘communist threat,’ and Control can only be envious of their zeal and sure confidence that the good guys will win.
21. Life - It isn’t the same, in this new London, but it is the best they have for now, and Control can only wish that this new office of his had a window; Tony still arrives at eleven with coffee, though.
05. Potatoes - Tony has an inability to cook foods, but he can make the most amazing beverages, and thankfully Control can make a decent potato stew for their dinners.
24. Taste - When Tony kisses Control he can taste his coffee on his breath, and Control wonders at the taste of lemon on Tony’s breath.
23. Hands - Tony is a bit of a mechanic, and when Control’s car breaks down he takes the toolbox and fixes it without much hassle.
22. Jealousy - Tony knows about Mrs. Control, and he knows why the Controls don’t divorce, but all the same, he wishes that Control was his and his alone.
43. Sky - Control searches the sky, wondering when his pigeon will come, but keeping a careful distance away from the window.
38. Gift - There was another gift, on Control’s birthday, but it was delivered after hours, when they were home and with access to a bathtub.
32. Confusion - Control number two never visits again, but Tony never forgets that odd mural painter, nor does he forget to visit several of them on a day off.
26. Forever - Tony watches the clock, wishing that it would move faster, so he could break the monotony of the paperwork with a visit to Control.
38. Gift - ‘Here, Control,’ Tony smiles as he hands over the gift, ‘A new coffee cup for you.’
42. Clouds - When Tony looks at clouds, he sees mythical creatures and Control, wheras Control sees the hammer and sickle in the clouds.
27. Blood - Tony cannot shake the nightmares wherin Control falls from the window again, only there was no one to below to cushion his fall.
29. Melody - Tony leans over the piano and wishes he could play it, so Control invites him to have a seat and pay attention to the notes.
