#01 - Walking :
Whenever they walk next to each other, Sora links their pinkies together, because he’s far too awkward and shy to hold her hand; whenever Kairi looks over at him, she sees Roxas and thinks she’s absolutely awful for it.
#02 - Waltz :
Sora asks her to teach him to waltz once; she tells herself she agreed because he was her friend, not because he made her think of non-existent blue eyes and blond spikes.
#03 - Wish :
I wish I could meet you again.
#04 - Wonder :
Roxas wonders if because Sora likes Kairi, he does too; Kairi wonders if the blackouts will ever stop.
#05 - Worry :
Kairi worries about Sora constantly when he’s off fighting; when he comes back with Roxas standing next to him, with a heart and all, she realizes now she has to worry even more.
#06 - Whimsy :
“We found Genie in Agrabah,” Sora explains with a big grin, “He said we could have one wish, and on a whimsy, we wished for Roxas to be a Somebody; we never thought it’d work.”
#07 - Waste/Wasteland
“It’d be such a shame if someone pretty like you wasted away all alone.”
#08 - Whiskey and rum
Kairi thinks Roxas is hard to read, but whenever she finds him sitting on the beach with whiskey, rum, or both (though she has no idea where he gets it from), she knows he’s had a bad (god awful, horrible, depressing) day.
#09 - War
Kairi knows they’re fighting a war, and she knows people are bound to get hurt, but that doesn’t stop her from worrying herself sick whenever Roxas and Sora and Riku leave for a fight.
#10 - Weddings
When Roxas finds Kairi looking at wedding dresses in a catalogue and checking out churches, he goes from extreme shock to grumbling about how he better be the groom.
#11 - Birthday
Kairi didn’t realize how hard it was to date someone who used to be a Nobody until she realizes she doesn’t know when Roxas’s birthday was (was it the day he came into non-existence, the day Sora was born or the day he and Sora became two separate people?).
#12 - Blessing
“Kairi, Roxas wants to talk to you…” Selphie mumbles, covering the phone with one hand; Kairi glares, eyes puffy and red, and shakes her head, muttering an answer: “Tell him I’m allergic to heartbreaking-idiots. See? Achoo!” Selphie leaves the room for a moment, than comes back, grinning widely as she says: “He says bless you; now answer your phone.”
#13 - Bias
Selphie thinks Riku would beat Sora in a fight hands down; Tidus thinks Sora would win: after all, he did save the universe; Kairi thinks Roxas would beat them both, but she’s a little (a lot) biased, so she doesn’t say anything.
#14 - Burning
Roxas has a lot of little scars, and Kairi makes it her mission to learn how he got each one, but when she sees the giant burn mark the stretches across his back, from one shoulder to the other, she’s at a loss for words.
#15 - Breathing
Cliché as it sounds, Kairi leaves Roxas breathless.
#16 - Breaking
Everyone had their breaking point and no matter how patient and calm she was, not even Kairi could avoid hers when Roxas called her ‘Naminé’.
#17 - Belief
“I love you,” she mutters, kicking the sand with her shoes; he gazes at her for a moment, than turns away, voice soft as he responds: “I don’t believe you.”
#18 - Balloon
“I want a balloon,” she says out of the blue, head on his lap as they watch TV; he stares down at her for a minute, nods, then goes back to channel surfing.
#19 - Balcony
Kairi is half tempted to tell Roxas that coming through her front door is easier then scaling the side of her house to get on the balcony, but she can’t help but feel just a little bit special when he sits on the railing, after taking a half hour to climb up, and offers her his hand.
#20 - Bane
“I thought having a heart would be great,” he mutters, staring at his sneakers, feeling awkward and very Sora-like in that moment, “But every time I see you crying, it hurts and I hate it.”
#21 - Quiet
“Do you ever shut up?” he hisses to the boy babbling next to her and Kairi can’t help but giggle because she knows Sora’s only being annoying to spite him.
#22 - Quirks
Roxas and Kairi both have their quirks: he’s an obsessive compulsive neat freak who gets bored with everything far too easily, and she has to sleep on the right side of the bed or she thrashes everywhere; but together, they’re obsessive compulsive neat freaks who get bored too easily and fight over which side of the bed to sleep on and really, no one could see them working any other way.
#23 - Question
It’s a simple question really, but Roxas just can’t bring himself to tell Kairi that yeah, sometimes I do think our relationship wasn’t meant to happen.
#24 - Quarrel
Roxas wonders how a heated argument between the two of them turns into their clothes all over the house and their lips all over each other.
#25 - Quitting
“I give up!” Kairi exclaims, falling over on the sand as the two boys in front of her continue to fight with their wooden toy swords as Riku sits down next to her and smirks a little; “I hope you know they’re fighting over you,” he says and Kairi mutters something under her breathe about liking them better when Sora was lazy and Roxas was bored.
#26 - Jump
Kairi remembers her grandmother telling her, with her grey hair and kind eyes, that love was like a gap: you could take a chance and jump, or you could find another way around it; Kairi jumped.
#27 - Jester
Roxas thinks Sora is a lot less silly then people thinks; especially when the brunette tells him he’s a fool if he thinks Kairi won’t wait forever for him to tell her how he feels.
#28 - Jousting
Riku thinks it’s incredibly dumb how Roxas and Sora still fight over Kairi when both of them already know who she’s chosen.
#29 - Jewel
Roxas stares at the writing on the palm of his hand, then looks back up at Kairi and quirks an eyebrow; “If I say your eyes are like sparkling pools of sapphire jewels, would you laugh?” and she smiles at him and shakes her head: “No, I’d say you better stop going to Sora for advice on how to woo me.”
#30 - Just
Roxas never found Selphie all that threatening until she told him that just because she was girly didn’t mean she couldn’t hurt him severely, and she would hurt him severely if he ever made Kairi cry.
#31 - Smirk
“Kairi,” Sora asks one day while they’re sitting on the pier, “why do you like Roxas so much?” and while Kairi’s thinking of a response, Riku cuts in with a “Because when he smirks, she doesn’t know if she’s screwed, or going to get screwed.”
#32 - Sorrow
Roxas doesn’t know what the big deal is when he finds Kairi tearing up a little over a squashed paopu fruit until she tells him about how she wanted to share the last one with him.
#33 - Stupidity
When Kairi and Riku find Sora and Roxas running around the kitchen and cookie dough oozing out of the oven, Riku shakes his head and mutters “I hope stupidity isn’t contagious,” and Kairi just giggles into her hand.
#34 - Serenade
“Come on Roxas, it’s her birthday and it’s so romantic!” ; “I don’t care; I’m not serenading her outside her bedroom window!”
#35 - Sarcasm
“Kairi, Selphie has something important to talk to you about,” Roxas lies (god, he hates lying to her) and she frowns a little, kisses him on the cheek and leaves; Sora pulls something out from behind his back and Riku says ‘That went better then expected’ and Roxas snorts a little, “I just lied to my girlfriend and she’s completely oblivious to the fact that we might just have to go die in a war. Oh yeah, it went freaking fine and dandy,” and Riku just scowls because he knows he’s right.
#36 - Sordid
“It’s another letter, isn’t it?” Roxas asks and the way he says ‘letter’ makes it sound like a foul disease, but to him, it is, because it’s taking the life he wanted away, the life he wanted with red and blue and smiles and hearts and paradise.
#37 - Soliloquy
“I’m not supposed to be apart of this,” Roxas mutters to himself while Sora and Riku show him a letter from the King, “I’m not supposed to be apart of this,” and Sora nods because they all know he isn’t but he is, and telling Kairi that is going to be the hardest thing any of them do.
#38 - Sojourn
Roxas wants a break from solemn letters that foreshadow horror and doom and fighting from a King who could never give all the answers; Kairi wants the same thing, if only so her boys will stop looking so downcast all the time.
#39 - Share
Roxas hates having to share his time with Kairi with Sora and Riku, but he puts his own selfish needs aside because he knows that they’re all leaving at the same time and they all need a little bit of her to keep them going.
#40 - Solitary
When Roxas hugs her for no particular reason, looking a little sad and a little troubled, Kairi can’t help but fear that soon, she’s going to end up alone all over again.
#41 - Nowhere
He has somewhere to go, somewhere important, and for once, he wishes the only place he had to go was nowhere with her.
#42 - Neutral
Kairi likes to think her and Roxas have no secrets, but she knows he doesn’t tell her things and she knows even better that she doesn’t tell him things, but the way he’s been lingering around her and shooting her half-hearted smiles makes her wish they really were on neutral ground.
#43 - Nuance
Roxas goes from looking guilty, to depressed, to contemplative, to guilty over and over again and it makes Kairi more worried then she’s ever been in her life.
#44 - Near
He has a decision to make, a really big decision, and he already knows his answer, but he doesn’t tell anyone, even though the moment is drawing closer, and he just spends al the time he can with her, near her, by her, and the more time he spends with her, the more time he spends wondering if he’s making the right choice.
#45 - Natural
Roxas doesn’t think it’s natural for his heart to be beating quite so quickly when he tells Kairi he’s going to help Sora and Riku and the King and Donald and Goofy and everyone in the final battle, and he doesn’t think the smile she gives him after saying it’s alright is natural enough for him to believe her.
#46 - Horizon
The horizon tints orange and red and purple and pink as the sun sets and the two of them watch as it disappears behind the shadow of the mainland; he grabs her hand and they know this might be the last time she ever sees him, nostalgic smiles and all.
#47 - Valiant
Kairi thinks they’re all very brave, as she sees them off, for fighting a battle they might not win, but she thinks Roxas is the bravest, because he’s putting the heart he’s wanted for so long on the line to make sure she can be safe for the rest of her life, to make sure she never has to watch him leave again.
#48 - Virtuous
Roxas is gone, off to fight the final battle with Sora and Riku and everyone and Kairi knows as long as she wishes, there’s hope and as long as her heart is pure, there’s a chance, but sometimes Kairi wonders if being a Princess of Heart is enough to save them.
#49 - Victory
Keyblades fly and twist and slash and glint in the afternoon sun and the first, second, third, fourth, wave of Heartless are down and their still fighting and Roxas hopes he makes it through all of it, hopes with his whole (existent) heart, because he’d give so much just to see her smile at him again and down goes another Heartless and they’re winning, and they’re winning quickly.
#50 - Defeat
He’s sitting there in the middle of the battlefield, Keyblades next to him, a giant gash down his side and the Heartless are coming in waves still and he can’t see Sora or Riku or the King or anyone and he thinks it’s the end (no one would miss me), it’s over, he’s done (I would) and he wonders if she’ll ever know just how much he cared.
