Ring - The day he removed his wedding band counted as a momentous occasion for him, but Nina couldn’t help but notice the ring of white where it used to be.
Box - She’d never been claustrophobic but when he put his arms around her she felt like she couldn’t breathe.
Run - Every morning he would get up and jog before going to work, but when she joined him for the first time he felt like he was floating instead.
Cold - The first few weeks he spent alone he couldn’t sleep in his cold bed but then she joined him and her warm body was a lullaby.
Drink - Their first date was nothing special, just a night in a bar, but he noticed that the wine tasted so much sweeter in her company.
Temptation - She held out for awhile, not wanting to get too close to him, but when he kissed her the temptation ate at her and she kissed him back.
View - Their hotel offered a gorgeous view of the beach, but the curtains were closed nearly the entire trip and neither one of them cared.
Silk - They lay underneath the sheets and he whispered in her ear, silky words that sounded rough in his voice.
Candle - She was usually lively and fun, but when he approached the subject of her past, she sealed up like a candle choked with wax until he let it go.
Strength - Never had she met someone so dedicated and passionate, and she wished that she was strong enough to believe in something.
Mask - Nina was terrified whenever he kissed her because she could feel her mask slip away beneath his fingers.
Fall - When Teri left him he fell, long and hard, but Nina was there to catch him with her sweet sweet lies.
Forgotten - “Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to just run away and forget everything,” he told her once, and she kissed him and answered “Forgotten.”
Body - She knew how to use her body to get what she wanted - she just never anticipated wanting him.
Formal - They always acted very formal in public, but behind closed doors they dropped the guise.
Fever - She called in sick one day, and they curled up in pajamas and watched movies over noodle soup and ice cream.
Laugh - He didn’t think she laughed enough, and it became something of a game - he would call her on the phone and snicker at her reaction to his words.
Forever - They never whispered words of forever, because they knew that forever could come tomorrow.
Overwhelmed - “Relax,” Jack mumbled in her ear, and Nina smiled as his fingers began to knead her tense shoulder muscles.
Talk - They used to talk for hours over stupid things - she guesses they must have run out because they don’t talk anymore.
Hope - She used to believe in something, and for awhile he made her feel like she could again, but in the end she realized how hopeless it was.
Highway - On the way to Santa Barbara, Jack pulled over just off the highway and ravished her in the car.
Lock - He locked her out after leaving her, and she never quite figured out how to open him back up.
Post Season 1
Memory - He found an old photo of them when packing up his house and ripped it to pieces before carefully placing it in an envelope and cursing himself.
Midnight - He held his dead wife’s body as the clock struck twelve and wished that it was her face he saw instead.
Cover - When her cover was broken he went back over every moment they spent together, but all he could focus on were the long passionate nights they had shared.
Talent - Jack knew how talented she was, how talented she had to be, to hide under his nose for seven years; he hated himself for admiring her for it.
Ice - He convinced himself that she was emotionless, had a heart of ice, and he even believed it for awhile.
Unknown - He never knew her, and that’s what hurt the most.
Breathe - Some days it felt like he was living just for her, just to make sure she got what she deserved.
Season 2
Whisper - She noticed that he would scream when he was angry and whisper when he was deadly, so she was terrified when she could barely hear the words in her ear.
Wait - For two years she waited for him to come find her, but that didn’t make it any less terrifying when he did.
Music - It almost felt like her approach should have been accompanied by low and ominous music, but as they came face to face for the first time in a year he knew that it would have been drowned out by the silence.
Promise - “I promise you,” Jack whispered, his breath ghosting her neck, “I promise you that I will find you, and I will make you pay.”
Search - Every once in awhile after she was pardoned he would begin to search for her, but never went through with it because knowing would be too much.
Season 3
Hero - It was fitting, of course, that she fell first - the hero always slays the monster.
Red - When he shot her she bled and it was a deep crimson color, not black like he had tried to convince himself.
Silence - The last time they saw each other she wanted to say something, anything, but no words could get across what she had to say so she kissed him instead.
Journey - Going undercover with the Salazars was a difficult journey but in the end it was worth it because led him back to her.
Farewells - Their final goodbye was silent except for the shattering of three bullets.
General
Hurricane - She swept into his life like a hurricane, fast and furious and before he knew it everything had been destroyed.
Wings - Sometimes he swore he saw angel wings protruding from her back but then she’d look at him and he saw her halo was held up by horns.
Dream - Sometimes she thought about what might have happened in another life, but as beautiful as the dream was, she always woke up in a cold sweat.
Fire - It burned where she touched him, left little scars that he counted after she died.
