Bug/Nigel

Fandom: Crossing Jordan
Pairing: Bug Vijay.../Nigel Townsend
Set: Delta
Rating: PG-13

1 (Air)

Nigel sucked in a breath as the shorter man accidentally brushed against him; eventually you think he’d get used to it, but he didn’t, and that was okay.

2 (Apples)

They were both doctors, and they both loved apples, thank you very much for asking.

3 (Beginning)

When they had begun seeing each other, Bug hadn’t been comfortable with it at all, but soon he was swept up in all of Nigel’s enthusiasm.

4 (Bugs)

Nigel really didn’t understand Bug’s obsession with bugs, and wasn’t entirely sure he ever would, but that wasn’t going to stop him from trying.

5 (Coffee)

Bug was even more of an untalkative person in the morning until he got his caffeine jump, and on the other hand, Nigel was already insufferably energetic without it, but still had some anyway.

6 (Dark)

Nigel often wondered what it was about his dark and usually solitary companion that made him feel so alive.

7 (Despair)

It was the pure despair in his lover’s dark eyes that made Nigel want to hold onto the shorter man and never let go.

8 (Doors)

Nigel argued that the best things always happened behind closed doors, and one night, Bug simply had to agree.

9 (Drink)

Nigel’s solution to everything was a stiff drink, and sometimes that worked just fine for Bug.

10 (Duty)

They shared a sense of duty, of giving back to the less fortunate, when they worked at the local soup kitchen together every Thursday.

11 (Earth)

Neither of them were really into the whole sappy romance thing, so they enjoyed a nice conversation about how stupid the phrase “follow you to the ends of the Earth” was, considering the world was round.

12 (End)

As far as Nigel was concerned, it was never going to end.

13 (Fall)

Nigel decided one day that Bug smelled like fall; he was not quite sure why, but he liked it.

14 (Fire)

Nigel liked fire, he was sometimes a bit of a pyromaniac, and it was all Bug could do to stop him burning the whole building to the ground.

15 (Flexible)

Because of their jobs at the morgue, they always had to stay flexible, depending on who was on call etc, but they still managed to make up for time lost, one way or another.

16 (Flying)

It was one thing that made Bug a bit fidgety, but with a little prompting from his lover, he stepped onto the plane with just a little fear.

17 (Food)

Each night they had a debate on what to order in, and each night Nigel always won, because Bug was generally to hungry and too tired to argue when the finally got around to it.

18 (Foot)

Nigel knew he had stuck his foot in his mouth when Bug turned that ever so delicate shade of red, for the second time that night.

19 (Grave)

He flew halfway across the world to visit his mother’s grave on the anniversary of her death, and Bug was right there with him the whole way.

20 (Green)

When Nigel turned an interesting shade of green at the sight of the female on the autopsy table and rushed out of the room without warning, Bug quickly followed after him wondering what was up, and if he really wanted to know.

21 (Head)

Only with Nigel would he have such an interesting conversation about the phrase “a head taller” and how it depended on the size of the head in question and who it belonged to.

22 (Hollow)

“This is not what I had in mind, pet,” Nigel whined as he got on his hands and knees before the hollow log; Bug grinned, “You said I got to pick this time, and looking for more beetles for my collection is fun.”

23 (Honor)

When he’d served in the Royal Navy, it had been all about honor, but now that he was free and living with Bug, it was all about happiness.

24 (Hope)

Each morning the feeling of warm breath on his neck and the gentle touch of the taller man’s body brought hope for a new day.

25 (Light)

Judging by the way the sunlight was filtering through the blinds of their bedroom, Bug made the astute assumption that it was morning, despite their only going to bed a few hours ago.

26 (Lost)

When Nigel had first come to the Morgue, he would have been lost, without the serious little man always pointing him in the right direction, even if he wasn’t necessarily the friendliest of characters.

27 (Metal)

Bug used to see Nigel’s bike as a screaming metal death trap, but after his first ride, it suddenly didn’t seem so bad anymore.

28 (New)

It had taken a while to get used to their new apartment, but after the first few nights together, they knew that it was the best home they could ever want.

29 (Old)

Despite his lover’s protests, Bug simply put his foot down when it came to Nigel’s sofa; he refused to let the mangy old thing into their new apartment, and insisted they use his newer (and cleaner) one.

30 (Peace)

There was a sort of peace, at the Morgue after hours; a time where the two of them could simply enjoy each other’s company and not have to deal with the constant hustle and bustle of the average day.

31 (Poison)

Nigel was slightly wary of Bug’s knowledge of poisonous insects at times in their relationship, because part of him wouldn’t put it past Bug to slip him something when he wasn’t looking, but then again, it was just Bug, after all.

32 (Pretty)

Nigel could barely stifle a laugh at his drunk partner, who had just informed him that he was very pretty, and he would love to go out with him.

33 (Rain)

Nigel liked the rain; it gave them an excuse to huddle close together under an umbrella, no awkward questions asked.

34 (Regret)

There were few regrets in their relationship, the only major one had been not recognizing what they had sooner.

35 (Roses)

Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

Nigel’s a moron;

His lover is too.

36 (Secret)

It wasn’t much of a secret who the mysterious “valentine” had come from, but they did spend a good part of the next day sending Jordan evil glares.

37 (Snakes)

Bug had a phobia of snakes, and much to his surprise, Nigel didn’t laugh at him for it, but instead admitted hi own fear of rats, although in hindsight, Bug wasn’t so sure that he was being entirely truthful there.

38 (Snow)

It started out as a simple walk across the street to the coffee shop, when suddenly he was struck in the back of the head by a cold, wet projectile; he spun around quickly, and furiously scanned the crowd for Nigel.

39 (Solid)

For some reason, Nigel reminded Bug of jell-o, in that odd, kind of way that he always managed to wiggle out of tight spots.

40 (Spring)

Nigel always insisted that with spring came love, although personally Bug believed that love was sort of an all-season-round kind of thing.

41 (Stable)

Every morning he could count on waking up to find Nigel’s arms wrapped somewhere around his middle and having to quietly disentangle himself to get up; it was this kind of thing that made his life seem so stable.

42 (Strange)

He had known that Nigel was strange from the day he met him, with his odd little quirks and questionable sexuality, but never had he dreamed that it would be the kind of strange he liked.

43 (Summer)

It was in the heat of the summer that Bug began to fully appreciate Nigel’s bike; when the wind was whistling around them, and his arms were firmly around the waist of the man he loved.

44 (Taboo)

It was already one of his favorite words, and it quickly became his favorite game, although much to his dismay, Bug was not as easily amused.

45 (Ugly)

They’d been around so much death at the Morgue for so long that the only thing that had kept them from sinking down into the hideous misery of it all was each other.

46 (War)

It wasn’t as much a war as a few quick battles, before Nigel had gotten his father to accept him, and his partner, for who they were.

47 (Water)

Nigel couldn’t help but laugh at Bug, whose cone-shaped cup of water had spilled all down his front in the fifty foot walk between his desk and the water cooler.

48 (Welcome)

It always gave him that warm fuzzy feeling, knowing that Nigel would be there to welcome him home, on those nights that he had to stay late at the morgue, or when he was on call.

49 (Winter)

Bug did not trust winter, with all of the snowy roads and ice, and then there was always the potential danger of Nigel, armed with snowballs.

50 (Wood)

Nigel was facing a crisis: the loss of his apartment to termites, or the loss of his pro-termite lover; it looked like the termites were going to win, despite Bug’s irrationality.
