Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: Seifer Almasy/Squall Leonhart
Theme set: Delta
Rating: PG-13 (Foul language & Graphic descriptions of death, OH MAI)
#01 - Air
It was a nightmare- mangled bodies with faces torn off (or heads missing altogether), and various limbs missing as well, were strewn all over the battle ground- their agonized screams still ringing in his ears; much later the vain longing for the ability to breathe and the hopelessness of it all would crush him mercilessly.
#02 - Apples
Squall was picky when it came to eating apples- he avoided the red, they were unwelcome reminders of death, and he never touched any of the green, they reminded him too much of Seifer.
#03 - Beginning
They hated each other since the very beginning, Seifer didn't take too kindly to being ignored and Squall just didn't give a damn, yet it still didn't come as much as a surprise to Quistis (although nearly half the school inhaled their grossly overcooked cafeteria food out of shock) when Seifer pinned Squall to the wall and proceeded to "eat his face" right then and there.
#04 - Bugs
Humans reminded him of insects- they scurried around with no purpose other than to reproduce, they ate as much as they could, destoyed more than they could possibly imagine only to die not long after- so when he was offered a purpose in life, to become more than just an insect, who was he to refuse?
#05 - Coffee
Seifer never really understood what was so good about coffee- especially the shit Squall drank- it tasted nasty, it smelled worse and it ate through Squall's paperwork like acid.
#06 - Dark
"Is this supposed to be romantic? I can't see a thing."
#07 - Despair
Despair was no stranger, it caressed his face in the day and held him tightly in the night, but when he was told that Seifer was dead it felt like his heart would stop.
#08 - Doors
The saying went that when a door closed a window was sure to open, but Seifer really saw no point in climbing through the window when Squall locked him out, not when it was much easier and faster by far to break down the door.
#09 - Drink
Seifer got massive hangovers and Squall couldn't hold his liquor to save his life, but when it came to listening to Selphie rant about this committee and that committee they were both willing to take their chances.
#10 - Duty
Squall believed it was his duty to be an emotionless and very capable leader who would guide everyone around him to prosperity and however reluctantly, he played his role superbly; what he didn't expect was for Seifer to come along and drag him out of his role as much as he could.
#11 - Earth
No one else existed when they fought, nothing else mattered except for them, their blades and the earth beneath them that was constantly stained from the blood that they spilled.
#12 - End
Squall didn't like fairytales, everything was always categorized, predictable and when it was all over, when it came to "the end", there was never anything more and they were always forgotten.
#13 - Fall
Seifer was just waiting for Squall to fall so he could pounce and, while Squall knew that eventually he would, he was going to make sure Seifer had one hell of a hard time in the process.
#14 - Fire
Everything he had ever loved had gone up in flames- his home, his parents, and all his memories of Squall.
#15 - Flexible
He knew that Seifer was flexible, but this was ridiculous.
#16 - Flying
It was perhaps the most frightening thing anyone had ever seen; Zell had been running down one hall and Seifer storming down another, neither of them slowed when they reached the intersection and both went flying as they collided, landing in a tangled heap in the middle of the floor just seconds before Squall-- standing nearby-- doubled over with laughter.
#17 - Food
If laughter was food for the soul then Squall's must have been starving.
#18 - Foot
"Aw, c'mon princess! Wasn't that fun?" Seifer laughed as Squall kicked him out the door.
#19 - Grave
He was buried in the middle of Esthar's lifeless plains, away from the world and its fanfare with barely a whimper- no one grieved the passing of a rogue student whose dream was to be a knight, no one cared to find out how young he was or if he was truly to blame for the war- but Squall was always there tracing the uncharacteristically silent letters of Seifer's name with numbed hands as he fought not to cry.
#20 - Green
Squall didn't even know why he was so surprised, with the way Seifer moved with smug grace and how his green eyes practically glowed in the dark, was it really that surprising that he practically purred too?
#21 - Head
Even as things settled down after the war, Squall could still see Seifer falling... falling... falling... into the black abyss of Time Compression, red blossoming over his chest; Rinoa tried her best to tell him through her sobs that it wasn't real but in the end she gave up and left him to rot.
#22 - Hollow
After weeks of nothing but death, destruction and endless paperwork Squall would a silent breakdown, lock himself in his room and just sleep for days- waking only from the nightmares with a hollow feeling of regret in his chest.
#23 - Honor
Seifer had honor (despite what everyone else thought), so he had to hold back and merely kiss Squall on the lips when he fell unconscious instead of fucking the living daylights out of him like he really wanted to.
#24 - Hope
Hope, Squall found as he spoke into the PA system, was something that could be easily given to others-- even if was by someone who never really had any at all.
#25 - Light
Light was sparse here, only the dying flickers that faded all around him with nothing to prove their death but the darkness, and Squall could only hope that he'd go too.
#26 - Lost
When Squall was little he hated being alone, he hated the silence, he loathed that void inside of him that only seemed to grow worse whenever he tried to forget about it and he wished he had someone to take it all away; now, Squall took great pains to make sure that everyone went away- it was easier to snuff out his foolish hopes than to die a little each day.
#27 - Metal
His whole life was nothing but a great chain of commands and right now he was in one of those moods where he was really, really close to just telling the headmaster where to shove them.
#28 - New
"Attention, Squall Leonhart please report to the headmaster's office, and Seifer Almasy- you are not to accompany him!"
#29 - Old
There was no right or wrong nor was there good or evil, it was all just a matter of opinion, and in Squall's opinion Seifer didn't deserve to die.
#30 - Peace
He had thousands of things to say, millions, but everytime he was ready to speak no one was ever there to hear him.
#31 - Poison
If anything was definite with near death experiences in battles- other than the fact that in most situations dark spots danced across his vision and it was almost impossible to move- was that it hurt like hell to breathe.
#32 - Pretty
"When will they learn that, in the end, we'll all be alone and that we're only torturing ourselves with the illusion that everything will be alright if we have someone to cling to?"
#33 - Rain
Squall was eighteen now, hardly a child anymore, but when he stood out in the rain he felt like he was ten all over again.
#34 - Regret
They looked at him as if he was a god and the admiration in their eyes made him angry when he knew he was just one scared little boy who didn't know what was needed to be done any more than they did.
#35 - Roses
Roses are red, violets are blue-- death is sweet, but not without you.
#36 - Secret
What harsh words Seifer said during the day were always made up with his gentle hands and apologetic kisses in the night.
#37 - Snakes
"My, my, Squally-boy, here we are at the end of all ends-- what do you say to me kicking your ass one last time?"
#38 - Snow
Squall was the Ice Prince- his eyes made of the finest ice, his skin of the purest snow- and when he became king Seifer was more than willing to be his knight.
#39 - Solid
There was nothing real here, just echoes of silence and wavering images of dreams that were solid only when he fell to his knees in defeat.
#40 - Spring
Seifer hated the springtime with a fiery passion, it was too indecisive for him- it wasn't warm, but at the same time it wasn't cold- and he usually spent it ranting endlessly about every little thing before Squall silenced him by pushing him into something-- preferably a lake.
#41 - Stable
Neither of them were insane, but they didn't have the mental stability they any normal person should have had either- especially after Ultimecia- so they both swore they'd follow each other should they fall.
#42 - Strange
He had never expected to be the one who would be left behind- not when he was the one always doing the running- but that's exactly what happened and now Seifer found himself before Squall's resting place, feeling strange as his voice cracked and eyes stung.
#43 - Summer
Seifer, Squall decided, was like the Summer- lazy, warm, and disappeared just as fast.
#44 - Taboo
Taboo was an action that was so different from the normal that it scared those who could not handle it enough to make it into something forbidden and Squall found that, while in the past others were willing to lynch, the girls in Balamb were all too happy to forsake this tradition just so they could watch.
#45 - Ugly
"Who are you calling a freak?!" Seifer snarled as he balled his hands into fists and Squall sighed as he downed his glass in a gulp, preparing to restrain him.
#46 - War
A war had started between the two of them on the very first day- in Seifer's defense, Squall had started it- the cafeteria was their battleground for almost three hours until the staff stormed in, weapons fully armed and loaded, to seperate them both and tell the casualties to take a shower.
#47 - Water
Their first overseas battle had come and gone, both sides had suffered many casualties but in the end they were the victors and their enemy was forced to pull back; even so, it wasn't hard for Squall to see that his SeeDs weren't ready for this, none of them were- least of all those who had to see the blind terror on the swollen faces of their friends and fellow cadets as they pulled them from the incarnadine seas.
#48 - Welcome
For three years Squall didn't bother to learn Seifer's name- he just mentally referred to him as 'asshole' and 'persistant'- it was when the other man started calling him 'princess' and 'puberty boy' when he decided that yes, maybe he should figure out who he was so that he could hunt him down.
#49 - Winter
Winter was Squall's favorite, much to Seifer's annoyance, there was just no other season where you could start a war that always ended with hot chocolate and marshmellows.
#50 - Wood
Squall wanted to live deep in the woods so that anyone who wanted to find him would have to really look or, in Seifer's case, just stumble in and refuse to leave.
