#01 - Motion
The first time Jess saw Jules on the field, it was the motion of her long and graceful legs running that made her stare at the blonde beauty.
#02 - Cool
Jules had dumped a water bottle over her head to keep cool, she said, and it made it all the more difficult for Jess not to keep her eyes off the muscular and toned body.
#03 - Young
When she was younger, Jess had heard Pinky talking on the phone to her friends about how being gay was so wrong and it was gross; at the time Jess hadn’t understood but watching Jules’ mother react to the two of them hugging finally helped it make sense.
#04 - Last
“Last one,” Jess said as she picked up the pencil and began to sketch, much to Jules’ distress, “and stretch out a little farther; I can’t get the lines of your legs right.”
#05 - Wrong
There was no way this feeling could be wrong, Jess decided as she kissed her way down the blonde’s body, smiling when Jules breathed her name like a prayer.
#06 - Gentle
Jules noted that sex with Jess was different because of a few things, but the one thing that always stuck out in her mind was that she was always so gentle with her-except when Jules asked (begged, really) her not to be.
#07 - One
One word came out of Jess’ mouth when Jules showed her the new nightie with the pink lace and the nice skirt that was cut just right: “whoa.”
#08 - Thousand
“There are a thousand people watching this game,” Jules said nervously, and Jess leaned over and took her hand to squeeze it comfortingly before they stepped onto the field with the rest if the Santa Clara team.
#09 - King
Jess had decided she felt like a king, or at least on top of the world when Jules smiled in her direction.
#10 - Learn
Jess learned that Jules especially liked it when they made love with her on top so she could look into Jess’ eyes as she came screaming the blonde’s name.
#11 - Blur
There was a blonde-colored blur that filled Jess’ vision just before she was tackled to the floor and kissed senseless because she’d finally declared her major as art at Jules’ insistence; apparently blonde had just found out.
#12 - Wait
The wait for her parent’s reaction to the news she and Jess were a couple was agonizing, and when her mother finally let out a triumphant “Ha!” and demanded her father pay her 10 pounds Jules felt like fainting.
#13 - Change
As Jess changed in her nightclothes, she wondered what her parent’s reaction would be not only to her change in major but her newly acquired girlfriend.
#14 - Command
When Jess was five her father had commanded her to give up her dolls, and when his deep voice commanded her to stop this nonsense, leave Jules and come back to England, she surprised herself by finally saying no.
#15 - Hold
Jess slumped against the steering wheel and cried; not knowing what to do Jules leaned forward and pulled her lover into a hug, holding her close.
#16 - Need
“I need you” Jess whispered and Jules didn’t protest as the other girl kissed her, pushed her against the lockers and slipped her hands inside her uniform shorts.
#17 - Vision
Jules looked beautiful, a vision that Jess tried to capture in her sketches so many times.
#18 - Attention
“Damn it Jess, pay attention to me when I’m talking to you!”
#19 - Soul
Deep brown eyes stared into her soul as Jess opened the tiny velvet box took a deep breath and asked Jules to marry her.
#20 - Picture
No picture could capture the happy expression on Jules’ face as she nodded yes and watched Jess slip the ring onto her finger.
#21 - Fool
She had to have been a fool, she thought at first, but when she called her parents and told them she was getting married in San Francisco and that they could come if they liked and heard her mother crying happily, Jess couldn’t help but cry too.
#22 - Mad
Jules had to have been mad, she decided as Pinky and Mrs. Bhamra wrapped her into the intricate white wedding sari she had agreed to wear; however it was worth it in the end to have her mother dabbing her eyes with her hanky, her father calling her beautiful and Jess’ smile lighting up the room.
#23 - Child
Jess wondered if they could ever have children; she was sure they’d make good parents but it was the implications of her becoming an artist and Jules a fashion designer that made her think they might never have enough money to raise kids.
#24 - Now
Jules thought that football (soccer) would be her true calling in life but now she knew that she delighted in designing clothes for beautiful people-though if she had some down time she'd still kick a ball around the yard with Jess… old habits died hard.
#25 - Shadow
“Did anyone ever tell you,” Jess whispered in Jules’ ear, “That your shadow is about as beautiful as you are?”
#26 - Goodbye
Jules leaned heavily against her wife as they lowered her mother’s coffin into the ground, murmuring a last goodbye to the woman who had raised her.
#27 - Hide
Jess couldn’t hide the humongous smile she had as she watched Jules walked across the stage to receive her college diploma, clutching her own in her hand proudly.
#28 - Fortunes
“Jules, you could make a fortune with some of these designs!” Jess said as she leafed through her wife’s sketchbook much to the blonde’s embarrassment.
#29 - Safe
Jules felt safe as Jess’ hand gripped her own for the briefest second before she was wheeled into the emergency room.
#30 - Ghost
Jess must have looked like a ghost when Jules finally saw her after the surgery; the first words out of her mouth were “Bloody hell Jess you look awful and I was the one in the accident.”
#31 - Book
“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit…” Jules read as Jess’ nephew curled into the blonde’s side and Jess couldn’t help but smile.
#32 - Eye
Jules always felt like flying every time she saw the sparkle in Jess’ eyes, specifically when she knew she had caused it.
#33 - Never
“I’ll never leave you…” Jess promised as her fingers entered the blonde; Jules’ nails digging into her muscled brown back.
#34 - Sing
“Go on, go on, leave me breathless” Jules sang, and even thought it didn’t sound the best, Jess grinned at her wife’s attempt to sing.
#35 - Sudden
Suddenly the implications behind the words hit Jess like a train and she put down the paper to look Jules in the eye, “You’re… what?”
#36 - Stop
Jules couldn’t stop crying even as Jess threw her arms around her and kissed her senseless at the news that she was pregnant.
#37 - Time
It had been ten years since they had first met, five years since they were married, three years since they graduated college and one since Jess had sold her first painting and Jules her first design.
#38 - Wash
Jules giggled as Jess paid special attention to washing her sensitive swollen belly; gasping as her hands went lower.
#39 - Torn
Jess was torn between standing in the doorway and watching Jules cradle their newborn daughter and going into the room to kiss her on the forehead.
#40 - History
Jules wondered if it was the first time in the history of Jess’ family that her mother was speechless as she held her granddaughter.
#41 - Power
It was the power of a baby’s smile that occupied Jess’ thoughts and her sketchbook for quite a long time.
#42 - Bother
“Natalie, don’t bother mummy when she’s working” Jules would say as she and her daughter watched Jess in her studio, the paintbrush flying over the canvas.
#43 - God
Everyday, like a good Hindu, Jess would thank the Gods for her family and beg for the strength to keep them with her as long as she could.
#44 - Wall
Sometimes it seemed like there was a wall between the two of them when it came to trying to raise their daughter.
#45 - Naked
The sight of Jess’ naked body after all this time still made Jules shiver with desire.
#46 - Drive
“Well… do you want to teach Nat to drive?” Jess said, watching the slight look of horror on her wife’s face.
#47 - Harm
“Well, what harm could it be to let Nat play football? I mean, it runs in her blood, doesn’t it?” Jules said proudly.
#48 - Precious
As she watched her daughter walk down the aisle a married woman, Jules smiled at the precious sight of Jess wiping her eyes in joy.
#49 - Hunger
The house seemed empty and alone with Nat finally gone and Jess found herself wandering in it hungering for a sign telling her that Jules wasn’t really dead.
#50 - Believe
As she took her last breath she could see Jules standing at the edge of the tunnel, beckoning her to come home, and she could hardly believe death didn’t hurt as much as she thought it would.
