Pairing: James Norrington x Genesis Wolfe (original character)

Author's Note: Genesis is a character from my fanfiction, and these sentences do contain possible spoilers for my series, as well as DMC. Just so's ya know. ^_^
I. Comfort
They sought comfort in each other when it could no longer be found in a bottle.
II. Kiss
It was hot, burning, heated with a year - a lifetime’s - worth of holding back when they both yearned to let go.
III. Soft
He brushed his fingers over the curve of her hip as she slept, wondering how one so hardened and abrasive toward those she hated could soften so to one who had so openly hated her.
IV. Pain
He glanced at her as she watched Jack and Elizabeth so close to each other, catching her in something between a glower of anger and a wince of pain, both of which melted into a blank look of indifference when her eyes caught his.
V. Potatoes
James raised a rather amused eyebrow as Genesis quietly pried open a crate and, finding a few dozen potatoes inside, let out a barely-silenced squeal of delight and proceeded to make good on her title as a pirate, slipping some of the tubers into her bag.
VI. Rain
There was rain on her lashes, lending her eyes a bejeweled, ethereal quality, and James thought, much to his surprise, that he very much envied the droplets merely for their closer vicinity to her.
VII. Chocolate
Genesis closed her lips over her finger, licking the remnants of chocolate in a wicked manner, and her eyes twinkled naughtily as they refused to leave his, "Hungry, Commodore?"
VIII. Happiness
"Just another thing we have in common, Commodore," she murmured, eyes hidden from his view, "neither of us will allow ourselves to be happy."
IX. Telephone
It wasn't as if she could pick up a telephone and drop him a line with a "Howdy do, Admiral, do I have some news to tell you..."
X. Ears
He frowned as he realized that the "evil" side of his conscience that was telling him to take what she was offering sounded very much like Sparrow whispering in his ear.
XI. Name
"I've only ever lied to you about my name, and I can assure you it is the only lie I'll give you."
XII. Sensual
She'd never done this before, giving over to her senses without her mind's interference; she found it discomforting, and the scowl she gave him said so quite clearly.
XIII. Death
"I don't fear death anymore, Commodore, I have an undead monkey."
XIV. Sex
"You'll re-evaluate your opinion of me being of the 'weaker sex' when you're pulling my boot out of your arse, Commodore."
XV. Touch
She shrank away from his touch in the dark, "Jack, I said 'no'..." and he felt his stomach twist painfully.
XVI. Weakness
Beckett smiled coldly at the name on the paper, "Oh, Mister Norrington, and to think we all assumed that Sparrow was your weakness..."
XVII. Tears
She scoffed at his question as she wiped furiously at the tears on her cheeks, "Because I'm not allowed to cry."
XVIII. Speed
With little effort he had knocked the sword from her grasp, chuckling as he reprimanded her, "Speed, Miss Morgan; brute force and anger will only get you so far."
XIX. Wind
"So, have you ever thought of throwing caution to the wind and pulling that stick out of your arse, Commodore dear?"
XX. Freedom
"It's not about Jack, it's about freedom, James!"
XXI. Life
He was torn when it came to Genesis Wolfe; torn between wanting to protect her in her naivety, and thinking the world would have been quieter place had he not spared her life in Port Royal a year ago.
XXII. Jealousy
If there was nothing else for them to find common ground on, they would always have a mutual jealousy with nonmutual reason.
XXIII. Hands
She had expected the hands of a man of such high social standing to be soft and gentle; his were calloused from a lifetime at sea and were as demanding and hungry as his lips were.
XXIV. Taste
"Why does your taste in men tend to go toward the tall, dark, and unhygienic?" Rosalyn asked her.
XXV. Devotion
"And your devotion to Sparrow, does that extend beyond the realm of a crewman to her captain?" James asked in a low, flat tone.
XXVI. Forever
"Forever is a very long time," she said, fingers entwining gently in his dark locks, "and time, in my case, is a very flimsy concept."
XXVII. Blood
Suddenly, a solution composed of blood and cursed coins seemed remarkable simple and doable.
XXVIII. Sickness
He hated Sparrow, hated his influence on people, specifically Genesis; the pirate captain was like some disease that ravaged and left permanent scars in his wake.
XXIX. Melody
He found her alone on deck, facing the sea with Rosalyn's guitar on her lap, and he merely watched her in silence as she plucked out a soft, simple melody from the instrument's strings, oblivious to his presence and perhaps the world around her.
XXX. Star
"And that one," James said, softly turning her face to look at the shining formation he was speaking of, "is Aquarius; I thought it'd be of interest of you, given your birthday."
XXXI. Home
She shook her head with that bitter smile he so often saw on her lips, "'Home' is a rather irrelevent term for me, love."
XXXII. Confusion
He eyed her for a moment in suspicion, clearly unsure of why this girl...woman...pirate was being so kind to him.
XXXIII. Fear
There was that look again, and he finally realized that, despite his belief that the emotion did not exist in Genesis Wolfe, it was fear.
XXXIV. Lightning/Thunder
It was in a flash of white that he spotted her, high up in the rigging, and after a brief moment of concern for her safety and annoyance with Sparrow for putting said safety in such jeopardy, he realized, watching her flit from mast to rope to the mast like their primate companion Jack, that she was practically born to do this work.
XXXV. Bonds
She grinned as she glanced at him with the noose about her pale neck, and held up her shackled wrists, jingling the chains and daring to give him a wicked wink.
XXXVI. Market
Genesis bounced excitedly at the announcement of shore leave, and quickly grabbed James by the wrist, practically dragging him down the gangplank and dock and into the bustle of the market for some honest pirating...or shopping.
XXXVII. Technology
For a long time, Genesis had cursed the monstrous freak of technology that had brought her here in the first place; now, in this moment, she prayed that the time machine would never take her back.
XXXVIII. Gift
He saw her, them, and he stopped breathing; he knew that there was nothing in the world he could do to repay her for this gift she'd given him.
XXXIX. Smile
And then she smiled at him, not a mocking sneer or seductive grin; merely a smile, and one that rendered him speechless as she went back to her work above him.
XL. Innocence
And he saw, with a tearing of his very soul, that he'd robbed her of something far more precious that Sparrow could have ever hoped to steal.
XLI. Completion
She grinned as she set down the charcoal, eyeing him, and the newly finished sketch of him with a discerning artist's eye.
XLII. Clouds
He could merely chuckle as she cursed at everything her fiery sea-colored eyes fell upon, from him (her main target) to the clouds (for not shielding her from the sun) to the deck and her boots (as she stumbled in her stomping temper tantrum.
XLIII. Sky
"You can keep your sea, Commodore, and I'll take the sky."
XLIV. Heaven
And for a moment, just a moment, he tasted, felt, smelled, saw, embraced heaven.
XLV. Hell
Clutching the tattered blue jacket tightly around her frame, she wondered, if this was what Hell was like; giving you a taste of paradise and then ripping it and everything you hold dear from your helpless fingers.
XLVI. Sun
He smiled fondly at her pout, as one does to a favored child, as he rubbed the salve onto her reddened shoulders, chastising her for falling asleep in the sun, despite the matching burns on his own skin.
XLVII. Moon
He glanced at the moon as she told the story of Artemis and Actaeon, thinking, fleetingly, that he wouldn't put it past her to set wild hounds on some poor sap who stumbled upon her nakedness; he also thought, even more fleetingly, that the punishment may be worth it.
XLVIII. Waves
They panted as the waves subsided, silent save their labored breathing, beating hearts, and the unspoken words the hung like fog between them.
XLVIX. Hair
His eyes widened in shock as she pulled out her dagger, and with a quick, harsh jerk of the blade, hacked off the unruly waves that held her captive at Sao Feng's hand, leaping to her feet and running to him.
L. Supernova
Her mouth opened silently in shock as she felt it burst like some stellar explosion in her stomach, and his eyes widened as she disappeared in a blinding white flash.
