Fandom: Books of Pellinor
Pairing: Maerad x Cadvan
Theme Set: Gamma
Rating: PG-13 for a couple, but mostly G or PG

1. Ring: Cadvan was always intrigued by the ring Maerad wore around her finger; it was a gift from Lady Ardina, and he felt there was more to it than either lady would ever explain; he never asked about it, and she never offered any information on it, so it was another one of their unspoken agreements that cemented their relationship.
2. Hero: For awhile, her mother had been her hero, saving her life and keeping her hidden from the likes of Enkir, so she was happy to be able to be a hero to someone else: Cadvan.
3. Memory: "Make it go away," she cried one night; "It's too hard to remember my mother," she wailed; he held her, wishing he could make it go away.
4. Box: She sighed as she started to load her things from the chest back into her pack-it was time to leave yet again; however, this time, he shut the box and suggested that this time, they stay to make a life.
5. Run: He and Hem ran away while Maerad chased him-she was really taking it too seriously, for it was just a bit of fun-and over his shoulder, he called back, "It's just a child's prank!"
6. Hurricane: He watched the coming storm and saw the damage it was doing from the safety of a knoll; he looked over and saw that she was doing the same, and he wondered if her thoughts were the same as his.
7. Wings: Maerad watched the birds fly and thought envious of them, for she wished to have wings to escape the endless dreary of trekking across the land; Cadvan watched the birds fly and was afraid she could very well take off and leave him any moment.
8. Cold: The wind made it seem much colder than it actually was and also made it impossible for Cadvan to start a fire; with no other way to warm themselves, Maerad coyly suggested they use body heat to stay warm; he agreed and suggested she sleep with the horses.
9. Red: She laughed and hid behind a grinning Saliman while a completely red Cadvan and Hem stormed after her to "punish her;" she poked her head out from behind her accomplice and exclaimed, "It's just a child's prank!"
10. Drink: They shared a warm drink and huddled close to the fire; it was the perfect end to a freezing, raining journey to the village.
11. Midnight: She woke up with a start and looked around; it had been years since she woke up thinking she was still at Gilman's Cot, but it still happened from time to time; she settled back into his arms and let him hold her close, for it was the only thing that comforted her at such hours of the night.
12. Temptation: "The point of the exercise is to resist your impulses, Maerad," he reminded her; she groaned and forced herself to restrain herself; he waited a few more minutes and then allowed her to join him in the bath.
13. View: It took a long time to arrive at Norloch, and it gave her a lot of time to admire the view of Cadvan while riding Imi behind him.
14. Music: The life of a Bard was filled with music, but the sweetest sound to Maerad was riding with Cadvan in understanding silence.
15. Silk: Everyone could see she looked beautiful in the elegant dresses Silvia provided, but Cadvan found her beautiful even in her rags at Gilman's Cot.
16. Cover: She giggled and ran through the meadow, and he followed, happy to have this time to act as a youth, and attempted to catch her to cover her with a barrage of kisses.
17. Promise: They were always on a journey, it seemed to Maerad: to Innail, to Rachida, to Norloch, to Thorold, but she had promised to follow him wherever he went, and now he promised to do the same with her.
18. Dream: She always told him of her dreams because he always thought it was important to discovering her true path, but she hid the dream that said he would leave her; she didn't want him to get any ideas.
19. Candle: Maerad held the candle and pitter-pattered down the hallway; she looked out the window to see Cadvan preparing the horses for the next day's journey; he turned and smiled seeing her face illuminated by the candle's glow.
20. Talent: He was skilled at many things, but perhaps his greatest talent was getting Maerad to smile when she least wanted to.
21. Silence: One could never accuse either of them of being overly talkative, so when they rode in silence, there was a quiet conversation of acceptance between them.
22. Journey: He held her close in his arms while Maerad slept soundlessly; in their short sea voyage over to Thorold, Owan thought, Norlac was right: they made a fine couple.
23. Fire: Her name was Fire Lily, and she had passed through fire to become a full Bard; Cadvan was very proud of her and often wondered if he would have been able to do the same.
24. Strength: She had seen firsthand why everyone said he was a powerful Bard, but Maerad was one of the few to know that his favorite strength lie in making peace.
25. Mask: She was lying on the grass, soaking up the sun's rays, when the gruesome thing attacked her; she punched it in the nose, hard, as she screamed, and she scrambled to her feet getting ready to unleash a spell; he quickly took off the mask, "It was just a child's prank!"
26. Ice: Maerad tiptoed down the hall unable to hide her delighted smirk; she slipped into his room and found him fast asleep; she dumped the ice onto him, and as she ran down the hall giggling, she shrieked back, "It was just a child's prank!"
27. Fall: Once, long ago, he had fallen, not to the dark, but he had fallen from the light; he tried to pick himself back up, but Maerad showed him he still had much farther to climb.
28. Forgotten: She often wondered-with a shudder-what would have happened to her if Cadvan had left her at Gilman's Cot, forgotten by the world.
29. Dance: She had always been afraid to dance; the men at Gilman's Cot had not given her the best impression of it, but one night, she allowed him to teach her the dance of love.
30. Body: He grinned as he executed this new plot of his and paused before the door; he would get her back for the ice; clutching the bucket of water in his hands, he flung the door open and was greeted by a shriek: "Cadvan! What are you doing? I'm getting dressed! ...Stop staring!"
31. Sacred: One night, after being in the wilderness for weeks on end, they had drunk a couple bottles of wine, and he had told her the delights of an apple at the height of their silliness; consequently, afterward they always referred to it as the "Most Scared-est of Fruits."
32. Farewells: It had been an emotional time saying goodbye to Saliman and Hem, the brother she had just discovered was still alive, despite the battle that happened afterward; on the boat ride to Thorold, she just collapsed in his arms.
33. World: He always enjoyed showing her the world and bringing out that childlike wonder.
34. Formal: When he was young, he thought himself to be so great that he was above such conventional ways, but as he got older, he learned the formal ways were just wrong; Maerad was too young to understand this, but the official ways had rejected her, so she rejected them in turn and joined Cadvan.
35. Fever: He had been tortured by the Landrost and had nearly died by the hand of a wight, but neither of those scared him so much as when Maerad got sick with a high fever and came close to the Gate.
36. Laugh: Cadvan, despite his sorrow, loved to laugh, and she always made it a point to have him laugh at least once a day-just so that she could hear it if nothing else.
37. Lies: They both hated lies, and while neither explicitly lied to the other, they both withheld information and only offered it if the other thought to ask for it; hence, they both constantly had to resist the urge to scry each other.
38. Forever: He insisted that she was too young to know of forever, and thus, she could not promise to stay with him that long, but she knew that some things you do not learn from age, and she still had much to teach him.
39. Overwhelmed: With every step she took from Gilman's Cot, Maerad gained new information about herself, some which scared her, but Cadvan refused to allow her to become overwhelmed and to despair.
40. Whisper: He watched her sleep as he always did when it was his turn to keep watch, and in the quiet of the night, he was able to whisper his true feelings.
41. Wait: He stifled a laugh while Maerad scowled; she was very impatient, and he purposely delayed giving the surprise; when she inquired if he was quite done yet, he replied, "Mm...I think I need another ten minutes."
42. Talk: She came into the Speech much later than most, so when she finally could speak it, she wanted to use it as much as possible; this amused him and made him think of his long ago youth.
43. Search: Maerad went through the things and could not find them anywhere, and she was sure that they were in the box; she had tracked them down this far, and she was not going to give up now, so she continued looking through the box; a bit of leather showed through the mess, and she pulled them, out the perfect gift for Cadvan: the first pair of shoes he made with his father.
44. Hope: She was the last hope for all of Annar, and she was the last hope of Cadvan getting any respect in the Barding world, so she knew she must choose her path extremely carefully.
45. Eclipse: As any teacher, he was very proud when her powers would eclipse his own.
46. Gravity: "I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation; it's very dangerous here, and we need to be in complete disguises," he explained, but all she could mutter was, "That still doesn't explain why I have to look like a floozy!"
47. Highway: Imi was very happy to be back on the public road, but Maerad kept her eyes back in the forest where Cadvan had been able to reveal his feelings freely and where she had received her first real kiss.
48. Unknown: Gilman's Cot was centuries ago, and she could barely remember a time when Cadvan was unknown to her.
49. Lock: She grumbled for him to hurry up, and he "politely" informed her that he was hurrying as fast as he could, so she suggested that next time he shouldn't let Saliman pick the drinks so that they would not be locked again.
50. Breathe: Maerad kept breathing as Cadvan instructed-he promised that it was almost over and that she had been through worse-but at that moment she could not think of anything more painful than giving birth to his child.
