Things of note: This is sci fi, Al-Batani is the name of Keldar's spaceship, and.... well I doubt too many people will come check this out because it is about original characters, but if you read these and have questions, don't hesitate to ask :]
#01 - Motion
Darius watched as his short but large friend moved like a mountain goat over the rough terrain, scouting ahead for them whilst nimbly carrying the 100 pound rucksack on his back, and a rifle in his hands.
#02 - Cool
"So yeah, ya wanna come over and watch some vids?" and all Keldar could do was stare at the popular boy make the invitation that would remove him from the labeled group of 'losers' forever.
#03 - Young
Keldar cried into his caretaker's chest, not understanding why he couldn't go on the big rides like Darius could.
#04 - Last
"Cheer up Keld, there's always tomorrow," said the black-haired boy to the chubby slate-haired boy as he picked him up where he'd fallen during the kids' race.
#05 - Wrong
All he could manage was a muttered, "Fuck you Keldar," when he saw that the difference in their written exam grades for tactics class was more than a handful of points.
#06 - Gentle
As his gunshot wound was wrapped by those meaty hands, Darius wondered how a man so powerful could be so tender and light-handed.
#07 - One
Darius bit his lip in between drags, refusing to say anything against this Lincoln that Keldar kept prattling on and on about.
#08 - Thousand
The scout and the infantryman nodded reassuringly at each other before going against the opposing army, knowing this might be the last few minutes they had to live together.
#09 - King
Not laughing at his friend's joke about the sergeant and his power-lusting ways, all Keldar could do was shiver and mutter, "RHIP...Rank Hath Its Privileges."
#10 - Learn
"Damnit Dare," Keldar complained while handing his friend an ice pack to put on his face, "Why do you ALWAYS have to bring someone's mom into it?"
#11 - Blur
It had started with him mocking the shorter boy in gym class, and ended two seconds afterwards with him staring up at a ceiling with stars and birdies flying around.
#12 - Wait
Darius hated this part the most, when he didn't know if Keldar was going to come back from scouting, or the enemy would toss his severed head over the trenches.
#13 - Change
Darius drank beer after beer, knowing that after what he'd done, he'd never see his friend smile at him in that way that always lifted his spirits and assured him everything would work out.
#14 - Command
The scout and the infantryman stood at attention as Lincoln walked around them, the squad leader detailing their assigned suicide mission with a wicked gleam in his blue eyes.
#15 - Hold
Silent and supportive, all Darius could do was stay that way while his friend sobbed against him after what Lincoln, and Lincoln's friends, had done to him for the past several hours.
#16 - Need
They huddled together as the frag bombs kept up a constant chaotic rhythm outside their shelter, trembling and startling together when one landed too closely.
#17 - Vision
"I can tell what this engine needs, I can fix it," he'd said, and Darius had to quit laughing when the previously out-of-commission ship started on all engines at a steady hum.
#18 - Attention
Darius was finally able to breathe again when the enemy combatant that was choking him slumped to the ground with Keldar's knife in his back; it was a mercy that at least one of them hadn't been napping while taking the watch.
#19 - Soul
Older than they ever thought they could be, one scratchy voice tried to speak loud enough so the other man could hear, "So do you ever think about the Hayat massacre?" and the other responded in a similar voice, "More and more all the time now."
#20 - Picture
In all the dogfights the Al-Batani had suffered and survived, the picture of his squad was still the first thing he would pick up and put back to its rightful place on the wall.
#21 - Fool
Growling to himself, Darius drank his beer at the bar slowly, watching Keldar becoming rather friendly with the delicate Venetian, and knew he'd been an idiot to never have said anything, before Lincoln had messed his friend up by convincing him that love was worthless, and only sex worth anything.
#22 - Mad
Forcing the Al-Batani's speed to the breaking point, Keldar did not care if his engines exploded, for all he wanted to do was get to Darius before his ship self-destructed.
#23 - Child
Darius winced as he tried to protect the survivor in his arms, even when Lincoln stabbed his hand with his machete tip; if only Keldar was here to argue his case, then everything would be fine.
#24 - Now
The younger of the two children looked up at his friend while they stood precariously on the cliff ledge with their paragliding equipment on, "How about tomorrow instead?" though all he got was a good shove to get him going.
#25 - Shadow
Keldar growled and leaned protectively over the unconscious Darius as their opponent's leader walked up to them, blocking the setting sun, "You try and hurt him, and I'll tear you apart."
#26 - Goodbye
"Keldar, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry I told him!" but the bulky man did not glance back even once to accept his sincerely meant apology.
#27 - Hide
Keeping his breath calm despite how hard his heart was pounding, the scout tightened his grip on the knife as he heard the enemy voices getting closer.
#28 - Fortune
"Lady luck is a bunch of shi--" started Darius, before he slammed his face into a lowering door, hearing Keldar's uncontrollable laughter as soon as he ears stopped ringing.
#29 - Safe
"So," started Darius whilst putting a new clip on his weapon, "You think tomorrow we can try NOT getting shot at while getting off this rock?"
#30 - Ghost
Keldar dreamed of his mother, who told him to stay with Darius, but when he told her that he WAS good friends with him, it looked like there was more she wanted to say.
#31 - Book
Relaxing as he read his science fiction pulp novels from over 100 years ago, Keldar didn't notice Darius staring at his half-naked body while lifting weights only a few feet away.
#32 - Eye
To think, that all this time when he thought Keldar's eyes were handsome in the way the forest green specs practically floated about the olive irises, never in the same place twice, Keldar had known what they meant, and hated them.
#33 - Never
"Keldar it's been YEARS and he still hates you, don't you think you should let go?" he tried asking, but he knew that their squad leader still had the scout wrapped around his thorny finger.
#34 - Sing
"THE MINSTREL BOY TO THE WAR IS GONE, IN THE RANKS OF DEATH YOU WILL FIND HIM," the two caterwauled as they tried to support each other's drunken weight, stepping around the debris that still littered the battlefield.
#35 - Sudden
One drunken minute ago they'd been laughing in their tent at something or other, and the next they were naked and writhing and moaning.
#36 - Stop
Darius clenched his jaws as he watched the medics jolt Keldar's heart over and over, and he felt his own quit beating when that wonderful beeping assured him everything was all right now.
#37 - Time
They'd been friends, comrades, and enemies for years now, and Darius prayed it was only a matter of time before they started up the cycle again.
#38 - Wash
Keldar grinned as Darius cleaned the outside of their tank while only wearing boxer shorts, and wondered if his body had always looked so perfect.
#39 - Torn
Darius felt his heart wrench when he saw that the Keldar of this parallel universe had human and alien skulls for decoration in his ship.
#40 - History
"You don't know anything about me," Keldar tried to shout at his fellow squad member, but he knew that if anything, Darius was the only one who knew what he was.
#41 - Power
Despite how it seemed like cosmic karma, the parallel universe Keldar frightened Darius when he grabbed the alternate Lincoln and forced him into a whimpering kiss, looking not the least bothered when he dropped him and kicked him in the head.
#42 - Bother
"You don't like the Pooh bear I got you?" young Keldar asked of his older friend with a shaky voice, on his birthday when his gift had not been as well received as he had hoped it would be.
#43 - God
"You know Keld, if there is a meaning to all this killing, maybe if we die out there today, I hope SOMEONE sure as fuck tells us what it was."
#44 - Wall
Keldar pressed his face against the cool, hard, and yet comforting wall of the Al-Batani, wondering if there was any way he and Darius could make up and be friends again.
#45 - Naked
When Darius found Keldar stripped, beaten, and bloody before dawn, he hated Lincoln with a passion, but all he could concentrate on was all that soft flesh and how it took his breath away.
#46 - Drive
Darius and Keldar killed over fifty refugees that day, and each wondered what kind of madness had driven them to thinking it was necessary to follow orders.
#47 - Harm
Keldar carried Darius' limp body to the sickbay of his small ship, not knowing how he could have so much hate for the bounty hunters that had done this to him.
#48 - Precious
Stifling a drunken giggle only by sheer will, Darius watched in glee as Keldar performed his dare of imitating Shirley Temple singing that lolipop-ship song.
#49 - Hunger
They hadn't had anything but carefully rationed foodpacks for weeks now, and yet on the day they both found canned food, they both saved some to share with each other.
#50 - Believe
"I always thought you'd be a hero Keld, I just wish I'd said something before you tried to prove it to Lincoln," he told him while softly holding the hand that had been severed and replaced with a cybernetic copy years ago.
