Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Lily Evans/James Potter
Rating: I think PG13, but a little higher might have slipped in there.
Warnings/Author's Notes: Fluff, implications of sex, run-on sentences. Nothing too bad.
Set: Alpha
#01 - Comfort
He whispers in her ear and holds her close and lets her cling to him, sobbing into his shirt, because even though he hates seeing her like this, he wants to be the one who holds her and comforts her through all of her hardships for the rest of her life.
#02 - Kiss
Her breathing comes out heavily, eyes still lit from her screaming match and their fight, but she steps toward him; "Kiss me, you idiot," Lily says before practically jumping to meet him and pressing her lips to his.
#03 - Soft
Her hands are soft and her touch is light as she tends to him after the battle and though he doesn't like to, he has to avoid her sad eyes at every injury on him, else he'll move to take her in his arms and she's already told him not to move, lest he cause more pain; he doesn't know if knowing she's aching inside without comfort or the sting that will come with motion is worse.
#04 - Pain
The redhead comforts the dull pain that's always in her heart at the thought that it could be worse; the dead could be her husband and son, she could be leaving them alone to care for themselves, they could be fighting for the wrong side, and it keeps her going.
#05 - Potatoes
Lily tries her hardest to spend all day making him something nice, and when he gets home he finds her in their small kitchen, flour all over her face, looking as if she’s bordering on tears and he notices the smell of burnt potatoes in her hands and kisses her, claiming it looks delicious.
#06 - Rain
She's hidden under the eave as to not get wet, yelling for him to get out of the rain before he catches a cold, but James pulls her into the storm, meeting her lips and hugging her to him; tomorrow they'll both skip classes and say they were sick.
#07 - Chocolate
"A kiss for you," she says as she puts the candy into his hand and leaned forward to brush her lips against his.
#08 - Happiness
Happiness, true happiness to her, is watching her son and husband when they don't know she is; it's seeing Harry squeal as James tossing him in the air and sneaking up on them, taking Harry and sitting in James' lap.
#09 - Telephone
James doesn't really know how to use one of these muggle things, but when he hears the news of her mother's death, he figures out how to dial the number she gave him and lets her cry into the phone all night.
#10 - Ears
She gasps lightly at a paper cut and James takes her injured finger in his mouth, stopping the blood, and he loves how cute Lily is when she blushes so much that the tips of her ears turn pink.
#11 - Name
Lily it always is in public; it’s only behind closed doors that he calls her Lils, and it melts her heart every time.
#12 - Sensual
Everything about her attracts him, her hair, her smile, her laugh, it's like she was made to torment him, to always show him that there was something in the world that he could want more than anything and never had; he found that he could always find more things like about her when she decided to give him a chance.
#13 - Death
It's the middle of the battle, though her eyes always find a way back to him, and when the man in black throws a green curse at James, a surge of anger courses through her that she didn't know she had and she throws her own in his direction; it isn't until they're back in headquarters with James right there that she realizes that she's killed someone.
#14 - Sex
It's not just sex for them; it's touching, feeling, tasting, knowing that the other person is right there; it's love, and they wouldn't trade it for anything.
#15 - Touch
James' hand brushes her stomach and she knows in that touch that he's more scared than he has ever been in his life, just like she is, but he's ready to do it because he loves her and wants this baby just as badly as she does.
#16 - Weakness
It’s the first game of seventh year and Captain Potter is about to score the goal to put them in the lead, but he makes the mistake of looking over the crowd and finds her, all red and gold and screaming his name with the rest of them, and the quaffle misses by a good two feet.
#17 - Tears
She cries and sobs until he crushes her to his chest, stilling her fists between them and whispering over and over again that it's okay to cry ("Cassie knows you'll miss her, Lils"), and that it's what he's there for.
#18 - Speed
He's speeding down the pitch, quaffle (or she thinks that's what the red ball is called) under his arm and she muffles a scream as he dodges a bludger and jumps as the ball sails through the hoop, cheering with them all as he pulls Gryffindor into the lead.
#19 - Wind
The wind is rushing by his ears like it always does when he gets in the air, but he glides slowly, not making the sharp turns and quick saves that he's used to, because today he has a scared little passenger with him, her arms shaking as she holds onto him, though she puts on a brave face.
#20 - Freedom
Lily tried to think that he did this for fun, for freedom, that he liked riding this crazy thing to play the game in the air and win him points and school wide recognition, that he came out here when he needed time or space, but she clutched onto his waist and closed her eyes, wishing her feet would touch ground soon.
#21 - Life
There’s screaming and pain and James wants to do anything to stop it, but he knows he can’t, and he blames himself for every moan or sound of hurt she makes, but in the end Lily’s smiling and still beautiful and holding the bundle in her arms and it’s then that he realizes the real miracle of life.
#22 - Jealousy
She has no claim on him and Lily Evans should not care, but she wants nothing more than to yank that showy little thing away from his side and let it be her ear he's whispering into and her laugh being heard; but she's Lily Evans and isn't supposed to be jealous of James Potter's latest fling.
#23 - Hands
His hands are calloused from years of quidditch play while hers are always smooth and soft from staying inside, turning pages of books, and wiping away tears of homesick first years; Lily's small, white palm always manages to fit perfectly into James' large, tan one.
#24 - Taste
He can taste the firewhiskey on her tongue, and in the back of his mind he thinks that something has to be wrong since Lily Evans never drinks, but he meets her with every kiss and caress, knowing he'll find out when she's ready to talk.
#25 - Devotion
Even years out of practice, Lily can't keep herself from finding her mother's old rosary, closing her eyes, and clutching it in her hand when he's out for the Order, even though any other time she hardly pays any mind to religion; Mother had always said God was watching over everyone.
#26 - Forever
Remus spends much more time than he should on one sentence, thinking that he somehow owes them the best statement of the Potters there is and when he's found it, he knows it's the one that would make Lily smile and James grip her waist; it's about that connection they always had - 'The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.'
#27 - Blood
He sees the red surround her fallen body and all James can think as he takes her in his arms and carries her through it all, no longer worried about the battle, is that even if this third time will make the prophesy true, he can’t live one second without her.
#28 - Sickness
Lily tosses and turns in bed and he spends the whole night checking her hot forehead and stroking her face, her hands, anything he thinks might make the hours more bearable for her.
#29 - Melody
Lily doesn't think she has a good enough voice and will refuse show people, even him, but he smiles to himself when he hears her holding Harry close to her in the evening and singing a lullaby to get him to sleep.
#30 - Star
Lily's always loved looking at the stars, making her own designs in the sky; "It's beautiful," she says in awe as they're lying under the stars, her hand tracing new shapes, and James looks over at her, agreeing.
#31 - Home
Lily thought Hogwarts was home until the flat was bought and the vows were read and everyone cheered and danced, with Sirius' embarrassing speech, and he carried her through the door; "Welcome home, Mrs. Potter."
#32 - Confusion
He half-smiled-half-smirked at her from across the common room and her heart skipped oddly, confusing her since that was what happened in romantic novels and Lily Evans was certainly not in love with James Potter.
#33 - Fear
His greatest fear, the one that gnawed at his heart and made him stay awake at night, tossing and turning, was losing the other besides him, losing his little redhead that made everything, life, worth living.
#34 - Lightning/Thunder
Remus Lupin thinks it's rather unfair that the only things left to prove that Lily and James Potter even mattered are a boy with a lightning bolt-shaped scar and his broken life.
#35 - Bonds
Marriage, they say is the tightest bond, but Lily had decided that they didn’t know what a war wedding was about, and they obviously didn’t know what a real bond was, something that couldn’t keep you apart in life or death - love.
#36 - Market
Lily laughed, even though her throat hurt from the cold, when he came home with a dozen more bags than she needed and had still forgotten to get half of her listed items.
#37 - Technology
Sometimes she forgets that he doesn't understand muggles things, and it never ceases to amaze her at how fascinated he is with her record player that makes 'those beetle guys' sing whenever she puts the needle down.
#38 - Gift
Harry doesn’t seem to understand that it’s his birthday and that means that everything is for him; he doesn’t have to share with mummy and daddy, but she takes the offered box with a laugh, calling him silly, and ripping the paper to see what Uncle Sirius sent.
#39 - Smile
Even in the middle of the war she can find a reason to smile when he's around; he'll touch her hand or kiss her cheek or just smile at her and she'll feel her heart skip like it did on their first date to Hogsmeade during their seventh year.
#40 - Innocence
Harry's just a little baby, not even a year old, and she hates exposing him to everything in the cruel world around him, but she hates him out of her arms even more and carries her little son around the house, hiding his eyes when casualties come in after battles.
#41 - Completion
He doesn't wait for her to say goodbye after the graduation and pulls her to him in a kiss; they've finished the first step, but now they have a whole life to make together.
#42 - Clouds
James dives for the quaffle, flying through a low cloud and laughing the whole time; all she can think about is how cold he really has to be, all soaked and wet, and how she would love to warm up by the fire with him.
#43 - Sky
James likes to fly, to explore the sky, and keep his feet well off the ground; Lily perfers to able about to feel the earth underneath her and stay down in the grass where the threat of falling and breaking her neck isn't so prominent, but they can both agree that anything's better with the other at their side.
#44 - Heaven
It hurts to leave her son, to have him trusted into her friends (Sirius will take good care of him, she tells herself, and Remus will help him...), but it would hurt more to live without James, so she sits in her spot above, keeping an eye on the boy who looks like her husband with her eyes.
#45 - Hell
Hell is supposed to be the worst place imaginable, so to Lily, the Earth would be hell if Voldemort succeeded, yes, but hell to her is really the few minutes her heart is beating and his isn't that Halloween night.
#46 - Sun
They've just graduated and are spending their first summer together, walking around London, window shopping, whatever entertains them that day; when she complains about the heat of the sun he pushes her over to the fountain where children are splashing each other and pushes her in; she comes up sputtering but laughing and splashing water at him.
#47 - Moon
She's selfish, she knows, but she wants nothing more to cure Remus of his furry little problem just so James can stay with her; he had promised and everything, but he has to be there for his friend, like always.
#48 - Waves
They sat by the lake, feet in the water, letting the little waves lap over their ankles, and talked about everything they would do with their lives, everything they wanted and to see and do, everything they never had time for.
#49 - Hair
Remus helped him and he honestly tried to make it lie down flat and Sirius even said it wasn't half bad, but she makes a face when she sees him and lifts a hand up to ruffle it herself; she wants her James, messy hair and all.
#50 - Supernova
With their two tempers combined it was inevitable that they would fight and wear each other's nerves thin, so it didn't surprised anyone when she stormed up to her dormitory, saying she would never speak to him again, and he yelled back; but they were found sitting next to each other at breakfast and kissing in the hallway before class the next morning.
