Title: Match Made In Opposition
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh GX
Pairing: Misawa Daichi x Taniya
Theme Set: Epsilon
Rated: PG-13
Warnings: This is a het pairing and Taniya is portrayed as actually being a decent, sentient, intelligent being who is also female. Also, the two of them having had sex the night that Misawa spent with her in season one is referred to here. If any of that bothers you in any way, feel free to hit the 'back' button.
- Motion: He didn't know which way to move or what to do as she advanced on him, but she quickly taught him what she wanted him to know.
- Cool: A light sprinkle of cool sweat broke across his skin when he saw the tiger-striped kitten in the alleyway; it couldn't be her, but he named it after her anyway.
- Young: He was young, only seventeen when they met for the second time, and he had no idea of how old she was, but once in a great while, ages don't make too much of a difference.
- Last: The last thing that Misawa expected when he was given wasn't to lose the Spirit Key, but to lose his heart to the person who won it from him.
- Wrong: He wanted to say that she was wrong to throw him out after their night together, but the more that time passed, Misawa realized that he was the wrong one to even think about that.
- Gentle: After that night, gentle kisses weren't in Misawa's vocabulary; instead, he wanted roughness and passion that would break through his reserve and make him live like she had.
- One: Taniya didn't believe in true love, just in love, and Misawa wasn't the one that she wanted to be in love with: at least not yet.
- Thousand: It could have been a thousand years before he saw her again, but he knew that he would recognize her the moment that he did: and he was right.
- King: Juudai might be Haou, Supreme King, but Misawa was perfectly happy being king of the house that he shared with Taniya and nothing more.
- Learn: There was so much that he had to learn, Taniya decided, and it was better that she try again than settle for second-best, so she sent him back.
- Blur: All the details were blurred by time, but one wasn't: just how much it had hurt when she'd turned him away.
- Wait: As Taniya turned and began to walk away, it was all Misawa could do not to ask her to wait for him.
- Change: Taniya smiled to herself as she realized that Misawa wasn't quite who he had been when they'd last met: and she absolutely approved of this alteration.
- Command: Misawa enjoyed finding out that in some situations, he liked being told what to do, especially if what he was being told to do was make love to Taniya.
- Hold: He woke up in the early morning hours and found that he was still holding her in his arms; he stayed like that, just watching her, until the sun rose and it was time to start another day.
- Need: She didn't need him; he didn't need her; but wanting him, wanting her...that was another story altogether.
- Vision: All the time that he was in the Society of Light, his blinded vision brought him dreams of adoring girls waiting on him hand and foot; perhaps he should have noticed that Taniya wasn't one of them.
- Attention: Misawa wanted attention; he wanted people to notice that he'd been there, that he'd done something, and he admitted that he didn't want to have to work for that: Taniya proved he'd have to work for anything he wanted from her.
- Soul: After that one night, Misawa wondered if she'd somehow stolen his soul along with his heart, and if she had wanted his body to go along with it, he would have given it to her.
- Picture: He sorted through a few new cards he'd bought from Tome-san's store, and stared down at the newly released Amazon Shapeshifter, and he breathed out, "Taniya."
- Fool: Misawa had always thought he was quite the smartest person in Duel Academia, but when he first met Taniya, he learned just how wrong he was.
- Mad: He was furious; couldn't any of them keep their mind on what they were doing for five seconds or would they always be distracted by girls; he knew that would never happen to him.
- Child: "You're a child," she said as she got up, brushing herself off easily, "And I don't want anything to do with a child."
- Now: The past was something that they had both learned from and the future they would face together, and the moment of now was what mattered the most in the end.
- Shadow: The other Shadow Duelists had threatened the souls of the seven key-keepers; Taniya threatened Misawa's very heart.
- Goodbye: He didn't want to tell her good-bye; he didn't want her to leave at all, but she had lost, and the rules were clear.
- Hide: When he saw a jacket made of fake tigerskin, Misawa wasn't certain if he should avoid it or buy it, and imagine that it was Taniya who was all around him.
- Fortune: Most people would have thought that being dumped into a desert with no food, no water, no weapons, and no way home was the worst luck that someone could have; Misawa looked back on it as a way to become strong enough to stand beside the woman he loved.
- Safe: Stepping out into the arena of love against her wasn't safe or sane, but it was the most extraordinary duel he'd had in his entire life, and he never regretted it.
- Ghost: He never wanted to tell anyone, but at times, Misawa came awake in the middle of the night, phantoms of dreams and memories of that mindboggling night as fresh and clear in his mind as if it had just happened.
- Book: Answers to some questions could not have been found in books normally, but the gift that Fubuki gave them for their wedding had some very interesting ideas.
- Eye: Diamonds might have been a girl's best friend, but for the ring he got for Taniya, there was only one gem Misawa could ever have wanted: tiger's eye.
- Never: He honestly hadn't thought that they would ever see each other again, but he should have learned not to make assumptions about some things.
- Sing: Singing wasn't something that Misawa was good at, but Fubuki made up for it, when he serenaded them both at the wedding ceremony.
- Sudden: Perhaps doing what they did without even having a first date (unless one counts the duel itself) would be classified as moving quickly, but Misawa didn't have any complaints.
- Stop: All things considered, Misawa wished that Taniya hadn't listened, when he'd managed to gasp out a request to stop.
- Time: She had been right; he'd been a child, self-absorbed and egotistical, and there was only one cure for that, the cure that he found: time.
- Wash: Misawa preferred to handle his own laundry; it meant that no one else had any evidence of some of the dreams that still haunted him, even after nearly a year had passed.
- Torn: Once they met again, Misawa was divided; did he want to stay with her or did he want to go back to Earth?
- History: In all of recorded history, Misawa didn't think that a human had ever married a Duel Monster, and the fact he was about to make history made him very, very happy.
- Power: Taniya had come to Earth in search of the power of the Sangenma and was not too disappointed to leave without it, as she had discovered another kind of power altogether.
- Bother: There were few people who could disturb him while he was in the middle of his calculations, but he never quite considered it a bother when Taniya did so.
- God: When Misawa met Dr. Zweinstein for the first time, he mistook him for God, and if he had known that working for him would lead to his reunion with Taniya, he might have sacrified something in thanks.
- Wall: The barrier between logic and emotions that Misawa had built up his entire life was destroyed by a single loss, and in the ruins, he ended up building a new life.
- Naked: He had been naked with other people before; it was a simple fact of life in Japan at times, but there was something so different and so amazing about it being with this beautiful woman that Misawa could only wonder if it were some kind of a dream.
- Drive: She knew how to drive him crazy with a single look, much less with the way her fingers and lips caressed across his skin.
- Harm: His friends wondered if he been hurt by her during the wild night they spent together, and it was just as well that he kept his shirt on; he didn't think they'd understand the claw marks on his chest.
- Precious: Misawa lunged for the single card as it started to flutter away in the desert wind and just barely managed to seize it with the tips of his fingers; he checked quickly to be sure it was all right, and smiled warmly at the near mirror image of Taniya looking back up at him from it.
- Hunger: Misawa gasped as Taniya pulled him closer and kissed him, the passion and the hunger for more building up in him rapidly; this was one hell of a reunion.
- Believe: He couldn't quite believe at times that he'd fallen not just for the first woman he'd ever made love to, but for the only woman who had tossed him out of his nose the morning after.
