Fandom: Aveyond 1: Rhen's Quest
Pairing: Lars Tenobor x Rhen Darzon
Theme Set: Alpha
Rating: PG13
Warnings/Comments: Some suggestive content. This follows the game's Build C ending.

Comfort
He thought that homecomings should be a happy affair - which is why he is baffled when, come nightfall, she starts to cry, just a stone's throw away from the village she called home, and he sits quietly beside her, hoping his presence could do something.

Kiss
He knows nothing of gentlemanly smoothness despite his background: only tugs and insistent hands and breathy, clumsy rawness to which she is completely addicted.

Soft
There is no softness in her, at least on the outside - he still marvels that her sword singer's touch could be so gentle and caressing.

Pain
He had come to know different kinds of pain in their journeys, but the one he felt while watching her and Dameon laugh together was terribly new.

Potatoes
On her dare he agrees to peel the potatoes for tonight's dinner; he ends up earning five cuts and a triumphant fit of laughter from her - and he swears he'll get better at this, incompatibility of 'menial task' and 'nobility' be damned.

Rain
"I wonder if it's raining in Clearwater," she mumbles, watching the rain fall outside the caravan and he wonders where Clearwater is, and how far she must be from home.

Chocolate
Dameon got his as well, but he has a certain kind of smugness in knowing he received her homemade 'Clearwater special chocolates' first.

Happiness
They walk, chat, argue, tease, and laugh together - and he wouldn't say it, but his greatest happiness comes from these small things.

Telephone
The academy chooses her to become one of the envoys to Sedona this year - and he finds himself wishing of a way he could communicate with her from across the ocean.

Ears
Elini eventually notices what is different - the sorcerer is wearing hoop earrings, and the sword singer has an elaborate silver earring with a red gemstone - and smiles knowingly.

Name
"Peta," he says, just to rile her up - and she kicks him with a vengeance.

Sensual
She used to hate the word, despised it like dirt and all things unholy, but she could not - could not - resist the shivers down her spine as he murmured it to her ear, lips fresh from a kiss: slave.

Death
Dameon dislikes the sorcerer - an arrogant, city-bred brat with a penchant for rolling his eyes - and he would've gladly let him die at that moment, if not for her despairing pleas as the boy lies bleeding in her arms.

Sex
She grasps the fabric of his slipping robes, whispering his name as they sink deeper into unspeakable, secret pleasures and silken bedsheets.

Touch
She runs a hand through his windswept, slightly singed hair, laughing and saying "congratulations, time master", and he feels warm and complete and he grins with her.

Weakness
He finds it hard to say no whenever she frowns like a child with a jutting, trembling lip; she finds it hard to say no whenever he stops arguing with a look of genuine hurt.

Tears
People die left and right in Dirkon, the plague-ridden town, and people cry left and right as well - and she could see him look at them with a sympathy she doesn't know he is capable of having.

Speed
"Rhen, the last time I checked there are no speed limits for dragons around here - it's not my fault if you're scared of high speed and high altitudes - don't point that thing at me!"

Wind
She stands at the edge of the grass-carpeted field, enjoying the fresh mountain wind scented with apples, just like when she was younger - only now, there is someone to share the experience with.

Freedom
They were almost too good to be true but they did happen, on the same day and at the same moment - the sword singer's assurance of her freedom as a slave, and the spoiled brat's priceless reaction.

Life
The Oracle lays the choices before her, the different roads of her life, and as she stands indecisive he desperately prays to the Sun God that whatever path she decides to follow, she would let him accompany her.

Jealousy
The Veldtonian women tail him relentlessly - even the Queen - and she has no idea why she is so irritated (and it seems that Elini and Te'ijal do).

Hands
She is surprised to realize that his hands are far rougher than she thought them to be - calluses from holding staves, scars and scratches from battles - but then again, he has become far more mature than she gave him credit for.

Taste
She doesn't deny that the Sun Priest's refined sweetness is pleasant, but there is something very memorable and exciting with the spicy, stinging sensations the sorcerer reminds her of.

Devotion
She asked him once, in the middle of the journey, of how far he would go, given the immensity of their quest, and he answered with his trademark smirk, "A step farther than you."

Forever
Ahriman once gave her the offer of an endless future - looking back, she is infinitely grateful that she turned the demon down, having discovered the joys of a limited but happy future with him.

Blood
"I'm alright," he rasps after the incantation, one shaking hand covering his mouth and red seeping through his fingers, and it is the first time in their journey that she feels genuine worry.

Sickness
She doesn't know whether to let him stay or kick him out - he taunts of her reddened nose and her nasal voice, but at the same time he dotes over her like a mother hen.

Melody
He is fond of muttering sweet nonsense whenever they are alone; if she strings them together, they could already form a song.

Star
He sees a falling star and hears a wish - let us be together.

Home
Their homes are in different places - she has Clearwater and Thais, he has Ghalarah and Veldarah - but somehow, the Sedonian manor is their home.

Confusion
For several seconds they only blink at each other, and in her head she repeats, over and over and over in a dizzying rhythm - he kissed me.

Fear
He knows that she is made of sterner and nobler stuff, but his heart still beats wildly as the Sun Priest and Ahriman try to charm her into the darkness.

Lightning/Thunder
The storm drowns every other sound, but in the silence tailing a thunderclap he could hear the soft sobbing of the slave girl in the attic.

Bonds
An envoy's words sever them as master and slave and eventually link them as comrades.

Market
He performs his trademark eye-roll as another shopping bag is thrust into his arms and she exclaims, "Look, sale on herbs!"

Technology
She stares, half-awed (on how he tinkers with the cogs and pipes) and half-amused (on the greenish slime all over his front), as he manages to get the 'Sludgemaster' contraption to work.

Gift
The velvet box sitting among the piles of books and lesson plans on her desk is strange, and the ring inside it - made of finest Thornkeep gold - is even stranger, but the stuttering denial and eventual roundabout admission from him is the strangest - and most memorable - of all.

Smile
He smirks and grins and laughs condescendingly for the entire world to see, but his most sincere smiles are for her alone.

Innocence
"It's something-" Elini shoots him a nasty look that promises pain if he messes with the two's innocent minds - and the pirate clears his throat and continues "-that married people do."

Completion
The thought never ceases to amaze her - they began in Veldarah as students and returned to Veldarah as instructors.

Cloud
Just as when she is so high up the beanstalk she is hidden by a cloud, he finally finds the guts to shout, "Be careful!"

Sky
Atop Mt. Orion's highest cliff, she feels he is so close to the sky she would be lost in it forever, until he grabs her arm and calls her back to earth.

Heaven
Yes, Lars Tenobor, I'll marry you - and he stands there stunned and unbelieving and smiling madly in unparalleled bliss.

Hell
His nightmares always include Rhen saying "yes" to Ahriman, then turning towards him with blank eyes and a sword thrust to his chest.

Sun
He can be so hot-blooded at times, she wonders if he should be the Sun Priest instead of Dameon.

Moon
The moon looks on as they walk down the dirt road towards Veldarah, barely certain of their tomorrow and strangely excited about it.

Waves
They stand together at the beach of Southern Isle, sunset-tinted waves lapping at their bare feet and she murmurs, "We've come a long way."

Hair
In the morning he braids her hair - he knows something of braids - the sleepiness creeping out of her system at every gentle tug and feeling of fingers through the strands, and the final yawn turns to a gasp as he sweeps the braid over her bare shoulder and leaves a kiss at the back of her neck.

Supernova
They are the best sword singer and sorcerer of their generation, heroes of the world and the stuff of legends - it seems they have reached the pinnacle of greatness, but somehow, going back to the Academy where their dreams, rivalries and adventures began, they sense that it isn't over yet.
