Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Lucius Malfoy x Narcissa Malfoy
Theme set: Gamma
Title: Glimpses of the Lives of Mr and Mrs L Malfoy
Rating: R overall
Notes: I have never written anything like this, or this pairing before so, this is my first time to try ease my way in to this fandom more. Each prompt does not form a story but some can relate to others as if in the same verse.

1# Ring

Seventeen years old and already set to wed, for the good of her family, for their honour, not hers, all she had was a huge diamond ring that was too big to be pretty and too flashy to mean anything at all to her breaking heart.

2# Hero

In a way, he thought the Dark Lord would be his hero, saving his family and giving them the power they deserved, not realising, evil cares for no man, and no man’s wife can bear that burden.

3# Memory
His first memory of his wife is a wriggling babe within a bassinet, squalling to the horror of her parents, amusing the young boy, who could have no idea of how their life would fall into place only to later shatter into unfixable pieces.

4# Box

Sometimes Narcissa can sneak away to her chambers, rise to her tiptoes, and take the box from the top shelf of the wardrobe, glance over the crumpling photographs of happier days and dream of the life they should have had.

5# Run
Run, run, and never look back, fingers clasped together through shrieks of despair for their son, minds racing, hearts breaking and the stench of death all around them.

6 # Hurricane

When they look at Scorpius, running freely through the gardens of their home, screaming to the skies, giggling madly and taking over the lawns with the force of a hurricane, they allow themselves a secret smile, and relish the moment they never thought would come to pass.

7# Wings

In a marriage without love, in a home without light, Narcissa wishes she had wings like the birds in the trees, so she could fly away from the despair of the Dark Lord’s presence and feel the sun on her face once again.

8# Cold

Lucius is cold and shivering uncontrollably when he returns from prison, speech slightly slurred and desperate, and Narcissa wonders if perhaps he has gone quite mad, but then again, he is her husband, and he is home, and really, that is the only thing that matters.

9# Red

She awakens to blood stained sheets that prove the consummation of her marriage and confirm that from that moment on, there truly is no escape.

10# Drink

After the war, Lucius drinks every day until they simply blur into one large torturous nightmare, all the while, slowly watching Narcissa fall to pieces he knows he can never put back together.

11# Midnight

Early in their marriage, Narcissa learned that if Lucius wasn’t home by midnight, then he wasn’t coming home at all.

12# Temptation

Lucius prided himself in being able to resist temptation as, as beautiful as his wife was, he couldn’t help but be pulled in by the dangerous lure of Bella, watching from afar, but never allowing himself to get caught in her web.

13# View

Narcissa’s family prided themselves in remaining toujours pur but even while she was still strictly innocent and pure in the literal sense, the moment she first met Lucius, left her tainted.

14# Music

Through love and war, they could still dance away their fears, at least until the music stopped and it all came tumbling down again.

15# Silk

Narcissa loved the feel of silk on her skin because it made her feel special but Lucius loved the feel of silk on her skin because it made his heart beat just that little bit faster.

16# Cover

Perhaps claiming he was under the influence of the Imperius curse was enough to keep him from prison but it wasn’t enough to keep Narcissa from having a reputation for having a weak willed husband and that, in her eyes, a Black’s eyes, was simply unforgiveable.

17# Promise

He promised the world and gave her nothing but blood stained ashes of what she should have had.

18# Dream

Little Lucius dreamed of power and grew up to pay for it, in gold and in every other way, little Narcissa dreamed of a great home filled with marble floors and colourful dresses and grew to wish she could escape the reality of what she had always wanted.

19# Candle

With each flicker of the candle light, they can see each other’s face, fluttering angst that pools in their guts because they don’t know if they will both be alive with the next flicker.

20# Talent

Lucius knows his wife is a woman of many talents, he remembers her at school, all stern glances and studious nature which was always reflected in great scores and a small smile but putting that aside, he thinks that just maybe, the biggest talent is the way she rubs the kinks from his aching back, all with a studious nature and then a small smile.

21# Silence

Nothing can ever penetrate the silence between Mr and Mrs Malfoy, because neither of them ever have anything to say, because there is no point, they know the other will never listen.

22# Journey

Lucius knew from the moment he failed to get the boy and the prophecy that there would be hell to pay and that the road would be rough, he just never expected that by the end of the war, his family would have to go to hell and back again just to survive.

23# Fire

When Lucius talks of Mudbloods and Blood traitors, his eyes light up with a burning fury and though she knows she lowers herself by thinking it, Narcissa wishes his eyes would hold that same fire when thinking of her, for better, or worse.

24# Strength

Narcissa Malfoy had the strength to do many things in her lifetime, lie to her Aunt about her cousin Sirius and what happened to the century old vase, marry a man she didn’t love to preserve her families honour, defy the Dark Lord to snatch the chance to save her son but she could never muster the strength to do one thing, walk away from Lucius as his sanity slipped through his fingers.

25# Mask

Darkness creeps through the old house, crystal tears slip down porcelain cheeks as a woman trembles with a golden mask in her grasp, the reason everything in her world has gone to ashes and in her reason, the source of the darkness that is taking over her home and blocking out the last flickers of hope.

26# Ice

Narcissa could say with certainty that her husband’s eyes were like ice, that they always had been and that they probably always would be, except for that one moment, the moment she wonders now if she imagined, the moment Draco was placed in his arms, crying and strong, and in that moment, for a fraction of a second, Narcissa could have sworn the ice melted for just a second.

27# Fall

Lucius swore he would never fall from his position of power, finding it unbefitting of a Malfoy and a man in disgrace was not the man he was born to be, yet fall he did and no one was more shocked than him, when it was his quiet wife Narcissa who caught him just before he hit the ground.

28# Forgotten

Lying in bed at night alone, knowing her husband refused to warm her sheets any longer, that he wouldn’t now he had his heir and successor, Narcissa couldn’t help but feel forgotten.

29# Dance

Narcissa loves to dance because it makes her feel younger and she loves it so much more because Lucius must be gentle as he holds her and sways with her over the foor.

30# Body

She had never cared for Lucius more than etiquette stated she should, not until the final battle, when Lucius was struck down and his body lay prone, and in the few seconds he lay still on the ground, she felt something, nothing that would mean anything to anyone else but it was something.

31# Sacred

Running through the great hall, eyes wild and roving for her son, her baby, death and destruction all around, mothers fighting for their children, children dying for their mothers, Lucius’ cries sounding in her ears, Narcissa wondered if anyone was sacred anymore.

32# Farewells

Many farewells were said on their wedding day, farewell to families, farewell to childhood, farewell to who they used to be, farewell to they could have been, farewell to all they should have been.

33# World

Lucius knew that Narcissa was supposed to be his world, but instead their life together morphed into their own personal hell.

34# Formal
There was no such thing as formal in the Malfoy home, only perfection and class, no emotions nor personal beliefs, only how one should act, how one must act, how one must be befitting of the name Malfoy.

35# Fever

Temperatures soared for one night, one night they had one glass too many, one night where hands wandered and mouths caressed soft flesh in a fever of passion, one night, where their marriage, could actually be real.

36# Laugh

Draco laughed once in joy, once too many in his father’s eyes, one enough to make his mother smile and once enough to be reprimanded and screamed into stern faced submission, killing his mother’s joy and the moment that foretold that perhaps he could be different.

37# Lies

No one lies to the Dark Lord, Lucius knew this, he told his wife as such, that doing so could cost you your life, yet she still lied that day, because as much as it could cost her, her life, it could save her son his.

38# Forever

She thought she loved him once, when she was young and naive, naive enough to tell him she wanted to be with him forever; she had not cared that they both knew there was no such thing.

39# Overwhelmed

Sometimes it was just too much; the constant battles, the pressure, the money problems, the near insanity of her husband, the complete insanity of her sister and it overwhelmed her and had to be let out, one drop at a time as silver blade cut through porcelain flesh and for a single second, as a shiver ran down her spine, she was free.

40# Whisper

Lucius once told her a whisper can set you free and when Harry Potter whispered one word, and she knew Draco was alive, she knew it was true.

41# Wait

Narcissa waited a long time for Lucius to tell her he loved her and when he finally did she couldn’t bring herself to tell him, it was too little, too late.

42# Talk

Lucius didn’t talk to her, he spoke at her, and by the time Draco was born, Narcissa had stopped listening.

43# Search

When Lucius came home in the dead of night, covered in blood and trembling with the stench of failure, Narcissa wondered what he was looking for with the Dark Lord, when he already had a family and gold, position and power, that didn’t come complete with cursed symbols and torturous curses.

44# Hope
Narcissa spent her childhood hoping for a husband like Lucius Malfoy and her adulthood wishing she had never set eyes on him.

45# Eclipse

On the day of her marriage there was a solar eclipse and it ended as soon as it came, yet the sun never seemed to return to Narcissa’s world.

46# Gravity

Narcissa found out she was pregnant the day Lucius hugged her for the first time and on that day, gravity was irrelevant, for she felt like was floating the whole day.

47# Highway

Lucius couldn’t save their son from his mistakes, so Narcissa did it for him when she made an unbreakable vow and she felt no guilt over it because they were already on the highway to hell.

48# Unknown

Sitting in the Great Hall, waiting on their imminent arrest, they held hands for what was probably the first time in years and swore to face the unknown together.

49# Lock

Mrs Malfoy told herself her son’s birth would make her husband truly love her and she was wrong; for all he gave her was a second glance as he looked upon his son for the first time and the moment his eyes left her, Mrs Malfoy buried her heart deep down under lock and key, swearing he wouldn’t break it again.

50# Breathe

She stood at the end of the aisle, stunning, head held eye, heart racing as he waited upon her, their union imminent, their life together both predictable and not and she breathed, in and out, and took her first step towards the life of Narcissa Malfoy.
