Fandom: Battlestar Galactica (2003)
Pairing: Karl "Helo" Agathon/Sharon "Boomer" Valerii
Theme set: Epsilon
Rating: PG-13 for sexual situations
Spoilers through the first half of season 2. For the most part in chronological order. And as canon as I could make it.
03. Young
She was a rookie and couldn't land a raptor if her life depended on it (and it usually did) but on those days when the Galactica crew went out and the others made fun of her, Helo looked out for her.
10. Learn
"One day, I am going to teach you how to land this raptor, because seriously," Helo said, laughing as the Chief scowled at the steaming raptor, "you are going to get us killed - hey, hey, I know, I know - first you have to teach me to pilot this thing - but after that, after that you just wait."
34. Sing
Sharon's mother used to sing to her - especially when she was sick and laying in bed; her mother would sing of love and happiness but now Sharon knows her mother didn't sing to her because she never had a mother, just fake memories implanted to make her seem human - but she still remembers that song every time she looks at Helo.
07. One
While Boomer was off in the weapons closet making out with the Chief, Helo could only imagine what it would be like if she were his before following Starbuck to her bunk.
18. Attention
Helo was a shotty soldier - he was better at getting drunk and flirting with women than taking orders; Sharon was better at that kind of stuff, which is why she never ended up in the brig with Starbuck and that is why she could laugh at him when he returned to the hanger deck - "You are such a good ECO, if only you didn't get in trouble so much."
11. Blur
One night - on leave in Caprica City - Helo got more drunk than usual and when everything was just blurry enough, he went to find Sharon to tell her everything; Kara stopped him ("Karl, you don't want to do this - this wouldn't be good for anyone and you know it.") and pulled him to her house (it was closer) where he threw up on her rug; she never forgave him for it and he never thanked her.
02. Cool
"Sharon, grab your side-arm," Helo said, limping to stand in front of her - if anything went wrong he just wanted her to be okay.
04. Last
"I'm giving up my seat," he told her quietly - because if anyone deserved to live and start a new world it was Doctor Gaius Baltar - especially over Helo (he was such a screw-up anyway); he kissed her forehead and grabbed his gun - Sharon deserved to live, too.
40. History
As he closed his eyes to try and sleep, Helo could only think about his locker on the Galactica and whether they had given it to someone else and what they did with all of his stuff - because when he got back, he kind of really wanted it all.
38. Wash
Sharon washed her hands again (even though she didn't have the time) and threw cold water over her face; she was sick of waiting for the cylons to attack and sick of Crashdown because he was rash and annoying and stupid and she missed Helo - back down on Caprica, probably dead like everyone else, if not captured by the cylons (whatever they would do with him) - and she washed her hands again as the alarm went off - dradis contact.
29. Safe
Hopeless, stranded on a dead planet and being hunted by cylons - the minute Helo saw Boomer running through the rain, weilding a gun and coming to his rescue - he didn't feel so hopeless.
06. Gentle
She wasn't anything like Helo imagined - gentle and soft, comforting - instead she was fast and hungry as she kissed him harder - he didn't even notice the twigs and rocks pressing into his bare back after a few minutes.
45. Naked
"We," Helo said as he squeezed Sharon's hand and kissed her, "should spend all our time together without clothes - it might make things more interesting."
32. Eye
"We've been running around for at least two hours - through rain and mud and the radiation has been killing me and we haven't eaten in forever - how can you not be tired?"
27. Hide
They were both sick of running and hiding and Sharon almost wished the others would give up or kill her or something; she was sick of lying, too.
09. King
Helo admitted that he slept with Starbuck - they were drunk and bored and lonely and neither could get the person they really wanted - and Sharon told him that during flight training she had relations with some guy named James (his call sign was King) - he was drunk and bored and lonely and she was just hot.
44. Wall
Sharon explained the plan was to go around the Cylons by going over an impossibly high wall - it didn't make sense, but Helo loved her and therefore he trusted her.
49. Hunger
Sharon knew, and her stomach knotted itself a thousand different ways because her mission was complete and if she let the others know they would kill him because he served his purpose and she couldn't let that happen.
17. Vision
Helo furrowed his brow as Sharon walked toward him in a white suit - he didn't have time to ask questions or raise his gun because she was full of bullet holes and bleeding red and then he saw Sharon - the real Sharon, or the one he had thought was real for the last month (not that she was real anyway) and his whole world fell apart.
05. Wrong
"I'm a cylon Helo," she said, her voice hanging in the dead air of Caprica City; Helo felt like he was going to throw up.
13. Change
In time, Helo would realize that Sharon had always been a cylon and then he would realize that he still loved her and all would be right again.
08. Thousand
She was a cylon and she had a mission and a protocol and a God and copies - many, many copies that could replace her in a heart beat (a heart beat, did she even have a heart?) - but she didn't have Helo and he was all that mattered.
23. Child
The last thing Helo wanted was a baby, let alone with someone who was responsible for the destruction of humanity.
47. Harm
Moments ago Helo had been ready to shoot her (she was a frakking cylon what else was he was supposed to do?) but the thought of Starbuck - one of, if not his oldest friend - killing her was unbearable; so he stepped between them because he really did love Sharon - synthetic body and all - and not even Starbuck could change that.
26. Goodbye
"Bitch took my ride," Starbuck said angrily as the cylon raider flew out of sight and Helo wondered if she'd come back for him (she loved him, he just knew it) and whispered "Goodbye," up into the yellow sky of the deserted city.
20. Picture
Helo had a picture of him and Sharon after a particularly bad landing on the Galactica and on Caprica when Kara was sleeping, he would pull it out of his pocket; it was a different Sharon, though - one that loved the Chief and was gods-know-where - he liked his Sharon better, anyway.
33. Never
Sharon always calls him Helo, she has never called him Karl, not even once; Kara does, Kara calls him Karl, but he thinks it is just because they have known each other longer.
35. Sudden
She stepped out from behind a tree, alone and unarmed, and Helo felt complete again - gods he missed her more than he realized - and he would have done anything she asked him at that moment.
30. Ghost
Before steppping off the raptor, Sharon squeezed his hand because she knew they wouldn't be ready and she knew something bad was going to happen.
42. Bother
"Throw it out the air-lock," the President said coldly (how can someone so warm-looking be so cold?) and Helo lost it and yelled at Kara (because everyone listened to Kara), she had to convince them to let Sharon live, for gods' sake Sharon saved her on Caprica - she saved them all; "Please Kara, please, tell them - tell them."
41. Power
"Lieutenant Agathon, I'm sure you understand she is a cylon - a traitor, a murderer, a machine; she has to be locked up, we don't know what her agenda is."
48. Precious
Helo slipped his fingers through the steel bars just to feel her touch - all he wanted to do was hold her and kiss her but these damned bars were in the way.
01. Motion
He slowly dropped off into unconsciousness with Sharon in his arms on Kobol - the birthplace of humanity (who would have ever thought they'd be on Kobol?) and he dreamed only of Caprica and the constant running - he didn't get any rest.
21. Fool
Lee couldn't imagine how Helo could be so foolish as to fall in love with a frakking machine (he should have been able to tell), but Lee knew no one could tell who was a cylon and couldn't be mad at Helo (but he did have to be mad at someone and it couldn't be Kara because he was just so glad she was alive).
14. Command
Seeing the Old Man again was nice, more emotional than he thought it'd be - especially since they were never all that close (Adama didn't care for ECOs, not as much as pilots) - it was good to back in the fleet, even if he was considered a traitor.
43. God
Sometimes she talked about God - like there was only one, like the Cylons knew there was only one - Helo let it go, he wasn't that religious anyway.
19. Soul
Sometimes Helo wondered if Sharon had a soul and if she didn't what would happen when she died and if she did where did it come from and would their child have a soul if only one of her parents had one; his head hurt after a while and he would stop.
31. Book
The President kept looking in her book as if it held all the answers ("Maybe it did," he thought), but Helo looked into Sharon's eyes and knew that his questions couldn't be answered, let alone by an ancient book.
46. Drive
"Don't ask me what I have to do," Sharon said as she pressed her finger to his lips; Helo sighed and kissed her fingers - she was stubborn.
12. Wait
Outside the Tomb of Athena, Helo slipped his arm around Sharon's waist as they waited because there were cylons down there and he wanted to make sure they wouldn't hurt her.
39. Torn
He kept his picture of Sharon in his locker when they returned to the Galactica; one day he found the word "CYLONS" written across it in giant yellow letters, but he still kept it - the next day he found it torn in two but Helo just taped them back together and hid it under his pillow.
15. Hold
She hated the brig on the Galactica the worst because she couldn't feel Helo's skin through the thick, cold glass.
37. Time
Sharon had all the time in world - now that her world was four walls and a telephone - but nothing to do (how she would have killed for all this time only a year ago); Helo had no time but nothing to do anyway, now that the raptor didn't have a pilot, they didn't need and ECO (not that anyone besides Kara would have trusted him anyway).
16. Need
Sharon did thousands of crunches a day - she didn't get tired, just sweaty and thirsty - because really there was nothing else to do until Helo came to visit; he always did and those few minutes together refueled her for a million more crunches until their next meeting.
22. Mad
The entire battleship hates him - the rest of the fleet would too if they knew he was there and in love with a cylon - so it is only natural that he spends as much time as possible in the brig with Sharon, she calms him down.
50. Believe
He didn't care what anyone else thought anymore - what they thought about him or Sharon or the cylons - he just believed they would be together always.
28. Fortune
Sharon remembered all the money she saved - so once out of the military she could start a family - and sighed because that money was useless - as were all her plans about family (with Tyrol, she remembered imagining a house on Caprica and a baby with Tyrol - but she didn't love him anymore, not like she did Helo) since now the world was over and now she was a cylon.
36. Stop
Helo felt his fist connect with the guy's jaw and heard the satisfying crunch; he didn't care about orders or protocol or anything other than stopping this guy and he only knew one way to do that.
24. Now
Helo and Tyrol were being shipped to the Pegasus - "Probably to die," she thought - because of her, because they both in love with her (or a version of her) and Sharon could only think how lonely she'd be because no one would be left to visit her.
25. Shadow
She cried that night, still on the floor where the officers had left her as she watched Helo and Tyrol get dragged away; she cried and cried and curled herself up in her thin, gray blanket and didn't sleep.
