Fandom: Psychonauts
Pairing: Razputin/Lili Zanotto
Rating: G - PG-13
Theme Set: Alpha
Notes: Some Psychonauts spoilers, obviously. And these are in no particular order, although they all take place after the game, and tend to switch time periods and storylines at random (and, sometimes, tense! Oops.). Sorry for some Tolstoy-esque sentences; I think I was channeling my inner Russian when I wrote some of these.
#01 - Comfort
Lili isn't the kind of girl who needs anybody to take care of her, and usually she likes it that way, but the longer her father stays missing, the more she wishes she'd never pushed Raz away.
#02 - Kiss
The third time he kissed her wasn't like the first time, or even the second: he was covered in mud, still a little dazed from a confusion grenade, and mistook her ankles for her head and accidentally kissed her shoelaces.
#03 - Soft
Every time Lili looked at Raz she worried that he was too skinny, gangly, and in desperate need of a sandwich, but at least his sweater was comfy--precisely why she'd stolen it and refused to give it back.
#04 - Pain
"Oh, please," Lili said to him, trying hard not to let the worry show on her face, "it's only a little bullet--you'll be fine."
#05 - Potatoes
As a New Year's resolution, Lili promised to take her anger at him out on something inanimate, like vegetables, whenever they argued: that was why they ate so many mashed potatoes that year.
#06 - Rain
It was raining the night she told him she quit, it was over, and it poured rain the day he moved all his stuff out of their apartment--Lili was starting to hate water almost as much as he did.
#07 - Chocolate
It took Raz three Valentine's Days to realize that maybe, just maybe, Lili didn't like chocolate all that much.
#08 - Happiness
The morning of her sixteenth birthday, Lili woke up on the couch, all tangled up in Raz's arms--she wasn't quite sure how she'd gotten there, but at the moment, she didn't really care.
#09 - Telephone
Lili stared at the caller ID, watching it cycle through over fifty missed calls from a "caller unknown"--she knew exactly who it was, of course, she just didn't know if she could bring herself to forgive him yet.
#10 - Ears
"Your ears stick out from the side of your head a lot," she told him once, reaching up and tugging on one for added emphasis.
#11 - Name
When they studied Russian history in 11th grade, Lili almost failed two of her tests for consistently misspelling "Rasputin" with a z instead of an s.
#12 - Sensual
Although he hadn't seen her in years, he still thought of her, what she looked like now, how she was doing...if she had any idea how fast she made his blood run, she'd probably laugh herself sick.
#13 - Death
When they buried his father, she stood close beside him, her hand clutching his so tightly she nearly broke his fingers.
#14 - Sex
The first time, they were seventeen--it was awkward and fumbling and Raz was sure the whole time that someone was going to catch them...but that wasn't to say they weren't willing to try it again later.
#15 - Touch
"Lili," he said, fumbling around, trying to guess where she was by feel, "there's no point to strip poker if you're going to turn invisible when you lose."
#16 - Weakness
Sasha always warned him that love, like most powerful emotions, was a weakness--Raz had to agree; the woozy feeling he got whenever Lili stood too close to him was the most distracting thing he'd ever felt.
#17 - Tears (in my head, this is a prequel to #13 -- ed.)
He hadn't seen her cry since they were ten, so when she flew out to London to meet him, a message from his mother in one hand and her eyes full of tears, he knew something was wrong.
#18 - Speed
On the rare occasions when they were assigned joint missions, Lili would insist on driving--Raz, meanwhile, would just slide down in the passenger seat and hope that the g-forces wouldn't kill them.
#19 - Wind
The wind howled across the steppes, but she bent down and kept walking: Ford had said Raz had disappeared somewhere out here, and dammit, she was going to find him.
#20 - Freedom
She envied him the most when she knew he was off on assignment or at the academy; even if he insisted in every letter he wrote that classes were long and boring and none of the "exciting" missions were sent to him, she knew it was better than being stuck at home with her father.
#21 - Life
"There's more to life than the Psychonauts, you know," she snapped, not really wanting to drag them into this same argument all over again but finding it strangely impossible to resist.
#22 - Jealousy
He's a cute, hot-shot hero, Lili thinks, so it only makes sense that girls are going to hit on him--but that still doesn't stop her from coming up with ways to kill his "groupies" in her spare time.
#23 - Hands
Raz's hands are callused, practically worn to leather from years spent with the circus, but she loves them anyway.
#24 - Taste
He smelled like straw and some exotic, old world gypsy flavor, which never seemed like the most appealing combination in the world until she kissed him.
#25 - Devotion
Anything Raz cared about, he ended up almost fanatic over--sometimes that frightened her more than a little.
#26 - Forever
The idea of "forever" scared her--it wasn't that she was scared of commitment, it was just that nothing she'd had had ever stuck around that long, so why should he be any different?
#27 - Blood
"You're bleeding--it looks bad," he said, looking as if he was about to be sick, but Lili just gritted through it and ordered him to get a move on.
#28 - Sickness
Lili heard through the rumor mill that Raz was sick--Morry, when she asked, suggested that someone might have poisoned him--and she almost went to see him, almost got as far as the infirmary door before she stopped herself: it had been over between them for years, and she wasn't going to crack now.
#29 - Melody
People liked to joke that when Lili sang, glass in the next county shattered, but Raz thought it was cute whenever she would sing in the shower.
#30 - Star
It wasn't that she resented Raz's fame or his talent, it was just that the more his powers grew, the more distant from her he became.
#31 - Home
Lili stopped the car and pulled the key out of the ignition, watching the darkened caravan for a moment before turning to the sleeping form next to her and whispering, "Wake up, sleepyhead--you're home."
#32 - Confusion
When Lili pulled the pin out of the confusion grenade and took aim was about when Raz started to figure out that she was mad at him.
#33 - Fear
Raz's biggest phobia had always been water-related, but when Lili announced that her parents wanted to invite him over for dinner, he found that there were more frightening things in the world than water.
#34 - Lightning/Thunder
He only liked thunderstorms when they came at night, and only then when he could curl up next to her, close his eyes, and listen to the rain.
#35 - Bonds
Her father liked to say that psychics, particularly the talented ones, automatically shared some sort of special bond--she never thought it was true until a peculiar, green-eyed boy fell out of a tree behind her.
#36 - Market
Lili snuck up behind him, kissed him, and then handed him a folded up piece of paper: "It's your turn to go grocery shopping."
#37 - Technology
"The caravan doesn't have any electricity," Raz reminded her as the plane took off--she wished he'd said something earlier, like when he was watching her pack her hairdryer.
#38 - Gift
"I'm going to staple that to your wrist if you try to give it back again," Lili said, watching him unwrap the tattered old friendship bracelet they've tossed back and forth since they were kids.
#39 - Smile
Raz has the sweetest, most easygoing smile--it's hardly changed in all the years she's known him, and secretly she hopes it never does.
#40 - Innocence
She's always been a bizarre mix of cynicism and enthusiasm; sometimes she goes from world-weary to innocent so fast he wonders if she's not bipolar.
#41 - Completion
There's a spot on her left side, just below her collarbone, where he can rest his head and go right to sleep, even if they're on assignment in the middle of nowhere and sleeping on concrete in the pouring rain.
#42 - Clouds
"They're just clouds--they don't look like anything," Lili mutters, rolling her eyes, but Raz tugs her to the ground and makes her go cloud watching anyway.
#43 - Sky
Lili liked to tell anyone who asked that, yes, she had met Raz when he fell out of the sky, but that didn't make him special, it just meant that he wasn't very good at levitating.
#44 - Heaven
"Raz, this is a storage closet," Lili started to say, but was cut off when he kissed her.
#45 - Hell
Raz paced the waiting room floor, hardly listening as Sasha told him for the seventeenth time to sit down, that there was nothing he could have done, which only made him think of all the things he would have done if he'd been there with her.
#46 - Sun
Some guys would bring their girlfriends the sun if they asked for it, but when Lili came down with a migraine, Raz went around and drew every blind and curtain in the apartment and then threw blankets over them to make sure not a single ray of sunlight crept in.
#47 - Moon
The moonlight glinted off her auburn hair, giving her an almost ethereal glow that contrasted rather starkly with the way she was glaring at him.
#48 - Waves
Whenever she stormed out of the apartment and didn't want him to follow, she'd go to the beach, the lake, the river--whether he was afraid she'd toss him in or he just somehow understood that that meant she needed space, she had no idea.
#49 - Hair
Lili spent hours trying to get that one tuft of his hair to lie down flat, behave, or even do something besides stick out perpendicular from the rest of his head, before she finally conceded that it was hopeless.
#50 - Supernova
Everyone knew Lili had a talent for pyrokinesis, so they weren't particularly surprised when a slightly-charred Raz started comparing her to the explosive force of the average supernova.
