*runs in circles*

ONE - air
Rikuou cradled Kazahaya’s limp form in his arms, wondering how he could be so light, like air; like he would blow away on the slightest breeze, leaving Rikuou to clutch desperately at nothingness.

TWO - apples
For some reason, watching Kazahaya eat an apple was very appealing to Rikuou because the very next day, there was a bag of apples sitting in their bedroom, and a wicked glint in Rikuou’s eyes.

THREE - beginning
Kazahaya put on his shirt and griped about how every day had to begin with Rikuou stepping on him to wake him up.

FOUR - bugs
As Kazahaya ran around in circles screaming and swatting at his face, Rikuou made liberal use of the bug spray, only to have Kazahaya collapse into his arms sobbing, which was nice, then get up and yell at him, which was not.

FIVE - coffee
Rikuou had to resist banging his head repeatedly on the wall when Kazahaya happily informed him that no, he didn’t know how to make coffee.

SIX - dark
Kazahaya once swore that he would rather let Rikuou disembowel his favourite teddy bear than admit that he was afraid of the dark, but one look at Rikuou’s face told him that his teddy bear was worth it.

SEVEN - despair
No matter how much despair he felt every time Saiga-san came back with nothing, a kiss from Kazahaya would melt it all away, and for that Rikuou was grateful, expressing his thanks in the most pleasurable way possible.

EIGHT - doors
(It shouldn’t be like this, doors should open, offer new chances, new beginnings, not shut, not like this - ) Rikuou, he cried, desperately banging on the locked door (why won’t you let me in?).

NINE - drink
Kazahaya started to protest, but it died on his lips when Rikuou gave him a Look, followed by, “Scared?” to which Kazahaya was veritably forced by means of a thing called Pride to down a double shot of vodka at one go, which was almost instantaneously followed by Regret, in the form of his puked-up dinner.

TEN - duty
“I have to complete the job, it’s my duty!” Kazahaya protested, struggling against Rikuou’s strong grasp, but Rikuou turned him around and shook him forcefully, saying through gritted teeth, “Is the money that important to you?” and Kazahaya had to look away, tears of desperation and defeat running down his face.

ELEVEN - earth
“The earth got hungry and ate it,” said Rikuou of the lunar eclipse, to which Kazahaya first expressed wonder, then upon second thought, outrage: “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying I’m stupid?” launching into a tirade that Rikuou ignored, preferring just to watch the disappearing moon and smirk enigmatically.

TWELVE - end
“THE END,” the television screen proudly proclaimed, ad Rikuou could only wish it was, what with Kazahaya dissolving into tears and soaking his T-shirt, leaving Rikuou to pat Kazahaya awkwardly on the back, silently cursing overly-dramatized soap operas.

THIRTEEN - fall
Kazahaya almost resented being the one doing all the falling, but as he lay in Rikuou’s arms, he realised that it wasn’t too bad, especially since kissing usually ensued, and Rikuou was a very good kisser.

FOURTEEN - fire
Kazahaya was like a field of dry grass: one spark, one uttered “baka” was enough to set him ablaze with a kind of frenzied rage that was, Rikuou concluded, rather amusing to watch.

FIFTEEN - flexible
Kazahaya never knew how flexible Rikuou truly was until their fourth night, when Rikuou said he wanted to try something more Thrilling.

SIXTEEN - flying
Sitting on the swing always gave Kazahaya an exuberant, joyful feeling - the sensation of flying as he sailed up through the air, the warmth of Rikuou’s hands on his back as he came back down.

SEVENTEEN - food
“So antisocial,” Kazahaya grumbled, shoveling food into his mouth and watching Rikuou read the paper.

EIGHTEEN - foot
Rikuou awoke with Kazahaya’s foot in his face once again, and was about to yell at Kazahaya when he realised that the only reason why Kazahaya was even in his bed at all was because they had had sex the night before, a fact that made Rikuou decide to tolerate the foot.

NINETEEN - grave
“Why do you always look so grave,” Kazahaya thought, staring at Rikuou, who promptly turned, smirking, “Like what you see?” and Kazahaya instantly reacted, protesting his innocence, his silent observation seemingly forgotten.

TWENTY - green
“It’s green it’s green go go GO!” Rikuou shrieked rather uncharacteristically, knuckles turning white from gripping the dashboard, and Kazahaya complied, fumbling with the gear stick, and wondering if the first time he ever got behind the wheel was a good time to tell Rikuou he was colour blind.

TWENTY-ONE - head
For someone so inexperienced, Kazahaya gave really good head.

TWENTY-TWO - hollow
The kiss was short, and Kazahaya responded by pushing Rikuou away, shouting and calling him names like “bastard” and “asshole” and “son-of-a-bitch”, while Rikuou stood to one side, and smiled that same hollow smile, pretending it was just play, just play, like it always was.

TWENTY-THREE - honour
Rikuou thought it wouldn’t be very honourable of him to lie, so he told Kazahaya that yes, he did put “Costume of Choice: Traditional Chinese Dress” on the form, and that the dress did look very good on him, a fact that Kazahaya was obviously not very willing to accept.

TWENTY-FOUR - hope
“ ‘There’s still hope’, he says, ‘They might pick someone else’. Yeah right,” thought Kazahaya glumly as he stepped onstage in a bridal gown, to the delight of the entire school; they whistled and catcalled, while Kazahaya muttered, “hope” dejectedly under his breath.

TWENTY-FIVE - light
“Hm. Light,” was Rikuou’s last thought before setting off home with a young man thrown over his shoulder.

TWENTY-SIX - lost
Being lost was inevitably a bad thing, and getting “lost in the deep dark pools of his eyes” was a terrible cliché, but if getting lost meant being found again, and by the person for which the “his” would equate to “Rikuou’s”, then he really couldn’t find fault with being lost at all.

TWENTY-SEVEN - metal
“So,” Kazahaya scratched his head and frowned at the CD in his hand, “does that mean that they make music with sheets of metal? Because I’m quite sure this guy is holding a guitar.”

TWENTY-EIGHT - new
“Lets try something new,” Rikuou said, dragging Kazahaya into the shower with him.

TWENTY-NINE - old
Although they were both the same age, every time Rikuou looked at Kazahaya in his childlike innocence, he felt ancient.

THIRTY - peace
Silence could sometimes be too still, too quiet, but this peace, Rikuou thought, brushing the hair back from a sleeping Kazahaya’s face, this peace was perfect.

THIRTY-ONE - poison
Kazahaya, head in Rikuou’s lap, moaned, “Are you trying to poison me?” as Rikuou poured yet another spoonful of foul-tasting medicine into his mouth.

THIRTY-TWO - pretty
Kazahaya ran around, pointing at everything and shouting “PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY!” while Rikuou followed at a safe distance, pretending not to know him.

THIRTY-THREE - rain
After the day when they got caught in the rain, Rikuou decided that Kazahaya looked good wet, and made a solemn vow to have him wet as often as possible.

THIRTY-FOUR - regret
Regret was a lonely feeling, thought Rikuou, downing yet another bourbon coke.

THIRTY-FIVE - roses
Rikuou was tall and strong - a man in every sense of the word - but what bewitched Kazahaya was the fact that Rikuou, he realised, as they lay spent and exhausted, smelt beautifully of roses.

THIRTY-SIX - secret
That same expression again: pain, that pain he’s always trying to hide; one touch could unlock all his secrets - do I dare?

THIRTY-SEVEN - snakes
“Boo,” whispered Rikuou straight into Kazahaya’s ear, which made Kazahaya jump, the domino he was about to set hitting the previous one, causing the entire line to collapse spectacularly, a snake across the floor.

THIRTY-EIGHT - snow
Rikuou could only sigh as another snowball hit him in the back (accompanied by much insane giggling), which forced him to retaliate (accompanied by an evil, evil grin).

THIRTY-NINE - solid
The barrier around his mind was tall, solid, letting no one in (Not even me, thought Kazahaya, heart heavy in his chest).

FORTY - spring
Money! Kazahaya thought, with a spring in his step, headed for Kakei’s office again, leaving Rikuou to trail along behind, sighing and shaking his head.

FORTY-ONE - stable
“Is it stable?” Kazahaya asked as he worriedly tested the branch they were perched on, but Rikuou only managed a husky “Who cares?” before claiming Kazahaya’s lips with his own.

FORTY-TWO - strange
“You two make a strange couple,” Kakei-san commented, mirth evident in his voice, causing a faint blush to tinge Rikuou’s cheeks, and starting Kazahaya off on another of his outraged tirades.

FORTY-THREE - summer
Rikuou was never too bothered by the summer heat because he knew that with Kazahaya, the nights were guaranteed to be much hotter.

FORTY-FOUR - taboo
Why would anyone, thought Rikuou hazily, as he came full into Kazahaya’s mouth, want to make this taboo?

FORTY-FIVE - ugly
After seeing Kazahaya in a dress, Rikuou decided that wearing anything else would make Kazahaya look absolutely atrocious, and from then on preferred to imagine Kazahaya clothed as such, or not clothed at all.

FORTY-SIX - war
War was overrated, but who could resist a good pillow fight?

FORTY-SEVEN - water
The hot water ran down his face, his neck, his back, washing away the dirt and the grime, but also the pain; the pain of having Kazahaya so close, yet not close enough, remaining but a roommate, nothing more.

FORTY-EIGHT - welcome
On the way home, Kazahaya grumbled about having to return from his “job” in the city to this tiny flat in this ugly building with his meagre meals, but, he added, as Rikuou opened the door, scooped him up and proceeded to snog him senseless, he really couldn’t complain about the welcome.

FORTY-NINE - winter
It probably was a bad idea to be outside in winter, thought Kazahaya, as he lost consciousness.

FIFTY - wood
“It hurts,” Kazahaya moaned the morning after, to which Rikuou could only reply, “It’s a wooden floor, of course it would!” while rubbing at his hipbone.
