Fandom: Star Ocean: Til the End of Time
Pairing: Albel Nox x Fayt Leingod
Theme set: Beta
Rating: PG mostly, although some are more PG-13
Notes: Some game spoilers, but hopefully not too many. :D Warning for endless amounts of boylove fluff. ._.;
# 01 - Walking
The warrior had never really taken a fancy for just walking around at night like Fayt had, and he had quite bluntly refused his offer to stroll with him several times now; but somehow, when Fayt did manage to drag him along, he learned that these walks really weren’t that bad, as long as he had something to occupy himself with - and Fayt’s neck was the perfect choice.
# 02 - Waltz
Albel was horrible at dancing - ‘a warrior had no need to learn such pointless things as dancing, after all’ - as he had always done his dancing with a blade; but when Fayt had insisted that he tag along for the party, he had given him hell; only to learn that he had never been particularly good at winning in an argument with Fayt, either.
# 03 - Wishes
He may not have been the kind to make wishes on stars any more (he was a grown boy now), but that night, when they had gone their separate ways for what seemed like the last time, Fayt found himself looking up to the sky with the words of an old rhyme fresh on his lips and tasting oddly of saltwater.
# 04 - Wonder
It was no wonder that Sophia had won him over in the end - she was beautiful, loving, and had all of those things that Albel didn’t - but what made it worse had been that look, that damned look, that had crossed through Fayt’s eyes at the last moment, as if to convey a final message: ‘why won’t you ask me now?’
# 05 - Worry
Fayt worried too much, and Albel didn’t worry enough, but that was never a problem; Albel would let Fayt do the worrying, and Fayt would allow Albel to do something about those worries, so he didn’t need to be so concerned any more.
# 06 - Whimsy
When he was a child, Fayt had wished that he could be a powerful knight, just like the one’s from the old tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table; when he had met Albel, a part of that dream had come true: he had finally met the knight that he had wished, and had become one himself through the guided instructions of the elder swordsman.
# 07 - Waste/Wasteland
War left destruction, but from that destruction, something good always came; at least, that’s what Fayt had told him, and Albel remembered those words now as they leaned closer, and lips brushed together for the hundredth time (but it still felt like the first, in his opinion).
# 08 - Whiskey and Rum
Fayt was still under-aged, Mirage had debated, but Albel never really seemed to care - there was no age limit to drinking on Elicoor, he had informed her; in the end, Fayt had simply stated that he could handle it, and had, three minutes later, passed out on Albel’s lap with a crooked little grin on his lips (and Albel had clearly stated that this was a very good idea after all).
# 09 - War
He was a war hero - an expert at what he did - but when it came to the war of whether or not he should just get up and ask the younger man that goddamned question he had been mulling over, he found out that he couldn’t really win all of the battles that he fought.
# 10 - Wedding
He still wasn’t entirely certain what the purpose of a wedding was, and Fayt sighed, slowly telling him once again that getting married required planning and money, something that they did not have at the time; Albel had just stated that they could get married here and now, and Fayt had informed him that he still didn’t quite understand the situation before finally giving up.
# 11 - Birthday
When Albel told Fayt that he couldn’t remember what day his birthday was - because it had never been important to him, he had said - Fayt had given him that look and had simply stated that he could fix that, and that Albel would just have to share his.
# 12 - Blessing
Albel never really knew when Fayt had picked up the habit of reciting the blessings of Apris, but he had, and even though he hated those words more than anything else, he found a new meaning in them when they left Fayt’s lips on accident.
# 13 - Bias
So he was biased, so what - women just happened to be much more of a pain when it came to things such as love making (he really had no need for an heir, after all) and he was much happier with Fayt’s little pleas and that specific soft spot on the innermost part of his knee, thankyouverymuch.
# 14 - Burning
Sometimes, in the middle of the night, Albel would wake up screaming, thrashing in his blankets from the phantom pain of fire licking along his arm that was no longer there and his torso; it was at these times when he really didn’t mind that Fayt would wake up as well, if only for the distraction that the young man’s voice and lips would bring.
# 15 - Breathing
It had never been such a difficult feat in his life, breathing; but when Fayt first saw Albel fight, strong and powerful and unyielding, he had found his breath caught in his throat from more than just the blade pressed against his neck.
# 16 - Breaking
No one had ever expected it to happen - Fayt had always been the one to stick through to the end, despite his insecurities - but when he had finally broken down, Albel had been there to slap him back into shape, and sometimes that was all it took.
# 17 - Belief
Albel was not a religious person in the slightest bit - no, religion was something that those idiotic Aquarians believed in through their great, false god and their promises of wealth and love - but when he saw Fayt’s power for the first time, he couldn’t help but think that he had found something ethereal in the young man.
# 18 - Balloon
‘What is this horrible thing;’ the words caused Fayt to sigh - again - and he explained - again - that it was a balloon, and not a floating, multicolored demon, and that one is supposed to hold onto the string, not try to chop it to pieces; Albel had asked him what the fun in that was, and Fayt had said that he didn’t know (thus resulting in the swift demise of the balloon, and one exasperated Fayt Leingod).
# 19 - Balcony
It was on the balcony, hanging out over the courtyard of Aquarias and lit by a dim moonlight, where Fayt had lost his very first kiss; it was on that same balcony, at that same time, when Albel had come to the conclusion that Fayt tasted remarkably of that strange mint that he had given him before and blueberries.
# 20 - Bane
Albel called him a nuisance, explaining that he would only get in his way as he fought, but Fayt knew that he really didn’t mind his company while he trained at night.
# 21 - Quiet
Sometimes Albel used to wish that Fayt would just be quiet - the young boy seemed to talk endlessly when he was nervous, and most of it was nonsense that Albel couldn’t quite understand - but now, as they stood at the end, he was glad for that gentle whisper, if only to let the voice ease his own rigid nerves.
# 22 - Quirks
Everyone said that they both had their quirks - Fayt was too insecure and too young to really understand, and Albel was too brash and too demanding for things to work out - but it was those little differences in the end that helped them to balance out and make things work.
# 23 - Questions
One time, Fayt had made the mistake of asking Albel how he had lost his left arm; the result had been a swift glare, a mutter of ‘it’s none of your business, maggot,’ and a look into the pain that Fayt had never expected to find in the warrior; and he had learned that some things are better left unasked.
# 24 - Quarrel
Cliff never really understood how two people that argued quite as much as Fayt and Albel did would ever get along, but when he walked in on the two sleeping sound in bed, Fayt wrapped in Albel’s grasp and both stark naked on the younger boy’s bed, he had learned that maybe the fighting had never been serious after all (after he had flushed bright red, something he rarely ever did, and had swiftly fled from the scene, of course).
# 25 - Quitting
Neither of them were too fond of quitting, and neither of them would ever admit to losing to each other, but in the end, it was Albel that had finally broken down and said something, and Fayt who had emerged as the winner.
# 26 - Jump
It was a bit of a leap of faith, asking Albel something as trivial as ‘will you come teach me how to fight better,’ and Fayt was more than surprised when Albel had only responded with ‘it is about time you asked me.’
# 27 - Jester
When they had first met, Albel had concerned himself the knight, and Fayt had been the jester - he had been the one that was strong, and Fayt was the joke - yet as he watched the man flee from the scene and he was left to stare down into a color that reflected his wicked eyes (he was Albel the Wicked for a reason), it was he that had been the jest.
# 28 - Jousting
It had started as a fight, a chance to train for the final battle, and had ended with warm kisses and held hands (Fayt really started to doubt that they were going to get anything done at this rate, but Albel simply withheld that they were perfectly in shape as it was, and with his skills, could never lose).
# 29 - Jewel
Garnets - Fayt had come to the conclusion without really much thought, and once he had, he nodded to himself in agreement at his silent proclamation: Albel’s eyes really did look like the perfect set of polished garnets.
# 30 - Just
He had whined that it just wasn’t fair, and Albel had simply walked away, letting him know that life wasn’t always as fair as he wanted it to be.
# 31 - Smirk
Albel swears up and down that Fayt can’t look menacing to save his life - that he’s ‘as weak and as soft as a woman’ - but the smirking lessons always end up turning into something a little bit more, so they just decided that Albel would look menacing enough for them both.
# 32 - Sorrow
Fayt wore his emotions on his sleeve; if he was feeling down or angry, it showed, and if he was happy, then everyone knew his joy - however, Albel’s sorrow was the kind that only a select few could see, if peering close enough, and Fayt had been the only one brave enough to push past the bared fangs and take a good look inside.
# 33 - Stupidity
Albel called it stupidity, Fayt called it romantic; either way, the love letter that Albel had attempted to write (he had misspelled a variety of words, one of which was the blue-haired boy’s name, and the print was crooked and sloppy) had done its damage, and neither side could really complain about the consequences.
# 34 - Serenade
Albel’s attempts to sing a love song to Fayt ended almost as horribly as that letter had - Fayt swiftly learned that Albel could not keep a beat to save his life, and that, were the man to ever try to sing one of Sophia’s horrid pop songs again, he would have to be forced to bound and gag him to prevent further damage.
# 35 - Sarcasm
Fayt could, in Albel’s honest opinion, be the worst nuisance he had ever had the displeasure to cater to and deal with in his entire life - Fayt stopped believing him when he found out that Albel just wanted an excuse to spoil him at the first opportunity available.
# 36 - Sordid
“What is that disgusting-”; “Albel, it’s candy. You eat it, not toss it at people”; “It… smells rancid - get rid of it”; Fayt sighed, and resorted to the only thing he could think of to make the man even try the small solid treat: he popped it in his mouth, leaned forward, and pulled back with a content smile that left the knight with the sweet taste of artificial fruit.
# 37 - Soliloquy
He was sure that Albel didn’t know that he heard, and was positive that the knight would never respond to him again if he pointed it out, but sometimes, in the middle of the night, he’d hear soft words of praise coming from the knight’s lips, when the elder thought that he was asleep.
# 38 - Sojourn
It’d only last for a little while, they both knew it - they just couldn’t go on forever - but for the time being, they weren’t going to think about it, and were just going to focus on the now and not the ‘what if’ of when Fayt had to leave again.
# 39 - Share
It was quite the surprise when the words ‘I wish you’d stop kicking me at night’ finally sunk in to Cliff’s head, and, interestingly enough, he made the decision to steer clear of Fayt and Albel’s shared room as if it were death itself after a loud yelp followed that statement.
# 40 - Solitary
Regardless of his cold exterior, of his violent anger and temperamental personality, Albel really couldn’t stand to be alone for too long - why else would he keep knights at his side at all times? - and the fact that Fayt was more than willing to stick around made things a whole lot easier.
# 41 - Nowhere
He had been asked where he was going, and he had replied with ‘nowhere,’ before walking out of their lives as quickly as he had come, completely unaware of the emerald green eyes watching him leave, but too stubborn to get up and say anything.
# 42 - Neutral
It was kind of something shoved in between - not really hate and not really love - and Albel was quite happy with his ‘I’m going to kill you’ threats that were often finished with a kiss and the gentle murmur of ‘sure you are.’
# 43 - Nuance
They really weren’t that alike, now that he took a look at them both, but that’s what made it all the more interesting.
# 44 - Near
Sometimes, just sitting next to him, shoulders pressed together and faces turned in other directions, was enough to makes things just that little bit better.
# 45 - Natural
It only seemed natural when Albel reached over, his thin hand grabbing Fayt’s smaller counterpart, and they sat there in companionable silence; because that’s just what they did, and no questions needed to be asked; it was just right.
# 46 - Horizon
They’d watched the sunrise together, once - Fayt had been unable to sleep and Albel had shared his company for the remainder of the night, without a real explanation for his want to stay - and in that brief moment, Fayt gained a whole new meaning to watching the sun come up.
# 47 - Valiant
Albel was brave (he had seen him take on hordes of enemies single handedly without flinching once and without losing his will), and Fayt admired him for that, knowing that he could probably never be as courageous as that.
# 48 - Victorious
It had been an unspoken battle between them to see who could get through to Fayt first, and when Albel peered around the smaller man’s shoulder, quite aware of the fact that Sophia was paying very close attention, he emerged victorious with a smirk and a kiss that left Sophia avoiding his eyes for weeks (there was no denying that he was going to be victorious to begin with, he had said, and all he had wanted to do was ‘claim his territory before the enemy’).
# 49 - Victory
He’d never be the first to admit it, but Albel has lost once (he can’t always be victorious, after all): in a little battle, far in the back of the caves, against the only person that could probably ever force their way through his stubborn sarcasm to smack him straight.
# 50 - Defeat
Albel would never, ever admit defeat - he was too prideful and too stubborn to ever come to terms with the fact that he had lost - but whenever Fayt gave him that ‘puff-up-his-bottom-lip,’ wide-eyed pout, he gives in to whatever it is that the boy is asking of him (reluctantly and with many very loud complaints, of course).
