---

01 Ring
"Keep it, navigator-san," she says, and Nami holds the small gleaming loop reverently in her palm, afraid to breathe on it and taint its golden gloss.

02 Hero
"Who do you admire?" the navigator inquires, and Robin thinks of a proud king, crucified and helpless in a crumbling room, the stench of blood and sweat heavy in the air.

03 Memory
It was hard to turn tail from her memories, and harder to own up to them when the Marines from all corners came baying for her blood -- but the laughing girl bearing mikans soon softened the hurt, and sealed the trust.

04 Box
"It's for you, Robin!" she smiles, offering her the small package, and all Nico Robin can do is sit there and murmur about the unnecessary; it seems like such a rarity for Nami to waste anything on affections for her.

05 Run
Run quick, girl, run for your life runfast runhard runnow now now and now there is no running from the law or from herself, save with her nakama along to offer her a lift now and then.

06 Hurricane
Sometimes, when the Merry screams down a moving wall of water with foam burstingbubblebreaking before her bows, Nami screams along with her, a joyous exultation that flings defiance at the whirling wind.

07 Wings
Nami wishes she had wings, to fly back to the desert and roost in Alubarna's palace again, but then she feels Robin's lips on her skin and she doesn't wish so hard.

08 Cold
Snow drifts down from the low grey sky and Nami thinks, staring out to sea, that the cold is much harsher after a person has lived heat, breathed blue heat into their mind and hands.

09 Red
They have fought before, seen each other bleed, great weeping throbs of blood, spattering smearing red over the deck -- Chopper has yelled at them before, but this does not make any other life-risk less thrilling.

10 Drink
They have drunk each other under the table on numerous occasions, Robin serene and calm with a slight flush tingling her cheeks, Nami loud and laughing and bright-eyed, and always Zoro has resented their hoarding his alcohol.

11 Midnight
Night watch never bothered Robin much -- she was alone with her thoughts and the dark creaking deck far below her, and sometimes Nami would join her in the crow's nest, legs pressed together in companionable silence.

12 Temptation
She has a bizarre urge to tamper with that skewed, not-quite innocence, to make those smirking lips gasp in something other than surprise; but she doesn't, if only for the smug self-satisfaction that she hasn't yet.

Nami struts and preens in her flimsy dancer's top and hip-angled skirt in the plaza below; the sightseeing is just fabulous in Alubarna, Miss All Sunday thinks, and the view from up here isn't bad either.

14 Music
The salted sky roars down white-hot bursts of jagged lightning, and the waves slap and crash against the sides of the ship; it sounds like music to them, its primal rhythm seeping into their bodies and motions as they make love in the girls' quarters.

15 Silk
Her skin feels like silk as it strokes, caresses, finer than silk, even: smoothing down her sweat-matted hair and soothing down the ache inside her chest that claws and tears bits of her heart.

16 Cover
Nami turns and murmurs in her sleep, and Robin draws the blanket over the curve of her hips and shoulders from across the room, stroking her jawline with a soft fingerpad.

17 Promise
They had both made a quiet promise to themselves that this would last forever -- this lazing in the sun, froth kissing the figurehead at each dip and roll; this sinuous, flirtatious contact, hips swaying and lips pursed -- and they both knew it never would.

18 Dream
The nightmares follow her each time she falls asleep; the shadows leaking through the locked door, the terrifying feelings of being limbless and helpless and broken, make her toss and sweat until she sits up, the hammock rocking from side to side.

19 Candle
A lone light flickers in the girls' quarters past three a.m.; they are staying awake, reading, and occasionally they look up and their eyes meet.

20 Talent
"Gods know you're good at what you do," Nami pants, glancing over at the serene archaeologist and the hands sprouting out of the deck, crushing and suffocating another enemy, "but do you have to make it so damn creepy?"

21 Silence
Voices from the galley tap faintly at the edge of her hearing, but in the hammocks it is quiet and musty; Robin's hard, bright eyes stare out of the black at her.

22 Journey
They've all been traveling so long, met so many people, earned such high bounties, but with her destruction everything comes unravelled in one splintering crunch.

23 Fire
There is brushfire flickering in her hair, and a wildfire roaring is her spirit.

24 Strength
"You lied to me!" tumbles from Nami's lips, and she thinks of her battle with Miss Doublefinger, and how she isn't strong enough yet to take her vindictive rage and fling it at the woman sitting across from her, silent-eyed and wordless.

25 Mask
She keeps an inscrutable face on at all times, for fear of exposing weakness; when they first kiss, she is still inscrutable, but every now and then she allows a smile to crack through.

26 Ice
Cold fingers under her arms, cold toes between her calves, and Robin almost forgets her composure and yelps -- "take it easy, na, Robin? I'm really cold."

27 Fall
"She's overboard!" Nami yells, and dives off the stern, streaking desperately through the water to reach the frozen body that sinks helpless twenty feet below her; she's almost forgotten what it means to fear, but it bites into her mind now, sharp and angry.

28 Forgotten
"You left your book in the crow's nest," Nami says, her tone clipped, and drops it into Robin's hammock with a thump.

29 Dance
There is an awkward silence between them, thick and obvious in the air, and they both wish that this complicated dance of avoidance would stop.

30 Body
This is a beautiful thing in her many-handed grasp, tanned into brown sugar and sheened over with sweat -- she writhes and her hips buck at the cool fingers that roll and stroke and tease in all the wrongrightgoodyes places.

31 Sacred
"This is a sacrosanct thing," Robin says after the event, weaving her fingers into Nami's hair, and all the navigator can think is how can she be so coherent after such sex?

32 Farewells
"Let's see them off!" Zoro bellows, and the Mugiwara lash out at the Marine fleet with all the eager venom of a first attack; the ships scream, warp, and sink, and the sea is crowded with the thrashes of drowning soldiers.

33 World
An intimate balance sways on the Going Merry, a noisy harmony that encompasses its own little world of routine within each scuffle and spat insult.

34 Formal
"Please," says navigator-san, catching her eyes and touching her hand, "call me Nami."

35 Fever
A girl rocks with a ship out in the cold blue, sweating, shaking, flushed; somewhere far away, a woman frowns and pulls the brim of her hat further down her forehead.

36 Laugh
They laugh together, rocking back in their chairs, at what they know the chef dancing attendance on them has been doing with the swordsman ten minutes previous.

37 Lies
If they lie to each other in the same hour and don't admit it, it doesn't count; they've already decided that.

38 Forever
"There should be some wind soon," navigator-san scowls, spinning the wheel in a vague attempt to row the ship using the rudder -- the heat is clinging and sticky, and they've been floating in one place forever.

39 Overwhelmed
Her shoulders shake and she sobs quietly, forced to her knees by the hopelessness of her dream, and all Nami can do is awkwardly embrace her and murmur into her hair, asking her to please stop crying, it's all right, please, I love you.

40 Whisper
Hissed S's and stifled TH's flit back and forth between hammocks; it's not like the boys would be interested in their conversation anyway, but it never hurts to be careful.

41 Wait
"I can't believe you wouldn't wait for me before you started eating," Nami berates the crew, and everyone looks out the window and rubs the back of their necks; Robin tosses her a mikan with a spare hand from the wall.

42 Talk
Girl talk, usually -- silly things about clothes and money and boys -- but since Robin confided that the boys are good for nothing but amusement, Nami has been inclined to agree.

43 Search
They sit back-to-back on the stern rail, watching the sun set; there is quiet until Nami asks, "What will you do if you can't find the Rio Poneglyph?"

44 Hope
"Grand Line's a huge place to map -- I can't say that I wouldn't appreciate someone to talk with."

45 Eclipse
A shadow looms high in a turquoise heaven, and the sun is blotted into a searing crescent that drives painful light behind their eyes in stabs.

46 Gravity
They seem to have a certain attraction towards each other, a wordless orbiting bond shared in the movements of their hands and the faint gleam in their eyes.

47 Highway
The Grand Line is surprisingly empty for all its lure and enticement -- like a muddy road full of drying footprints and wheel-tracks, wandered over but rarely traveled.

48 Unknown
"I don't care, and I didn't when I didn't know," the navigator says, tears stinging the corners of her eyes.

49 Lock
"Usopp, you bastard!" Nami roars as she realizes that they are locked out of the girls' quarters, nude; Robin employs several hands out of fig-leaf necessity, and Sanji is already running for the camera.

50 Breathe
Nami is just barely breathing, and Robin clutches her hand -- how can this be God's will, that her chest be almost motionless, her pulse a vague flutter shrinking away from her wrist?
