Fandom: Final Fantasy X
Theme Set: Epsilon
Character(s): Auron & Yuna
Pairing(s): Auron x Yuna
Genre(s): AU, romance and drama

Notes: Still in the game's setting of ten years after Auron's pilgrimage with Braska and Jecht, Auron decides to fore-go the Guardian's path and chooses to become a Summoner - he then enlists Yuna to be his Guardian. This is my take on what may have happened ^_^
Favorite(s): I am very partial to #41 and was happy with how #21 turned out

The Summoner’s Chosen

.) Motion - The first step was the easiest, the second was more difficult, and then the third - Auron walked bit by bit down the steps that led into Bevelle’s cloister of trials, Yuna behind him at a close distance, and he felt pangs of guilt beat at his chest the moment he snatched up the first sphere to begin his trials.

.) Cool - Ill-tempered in his youth that led him to a tragic fate on his first pilgrimage as a guardian, Auron learned the quality of remaining level as a new and quite unexpected summoner, a path he expected Yuna to follow, but wished to honor his former one instead.

.) Young - Yuna, but only a young woman, was a skillful white mage, gifted in arts he knew little of, and he treasured having her at his side for his journey - Braska should be smiling from somewhere, he figured, watching his daughter chant spells and use them for the greater populace.

.) Last - When he traveled with Braska and Jecht, he had failed in fulfilling his complete duties, died trying to avenge his fallen, but remained among the living to seek revenge in a different way - Sin would die this time… somehow.

.) Wrong - Auron turned to walk up a path hurriedly after Yuna had made an engaging comment about his spectacles, only to be stopped by her giggles again, “Sir Auron, you’re going the wrong way…”

.) Gentle - Yuna felt a different connection with him than she had with other procured suitors made for her by Wakka and Lulu; where he exemplified himself as harsh and unfeeling towards those that seemed to oppose his summoner’s path, she saw a sort of gentility in his eyes after he had prayed to the fayth - deep down, he loved what he was doing, though it was a morose adoration.

.) One - Singularity was his newfound claim to fame, though he hated that, too - legendary guardian and now a summoner, Auron almost gave up his new path, but Yuna urged him on at every point he became frustrated with praise in every village or inn.

.) Thousand - Mere footsteps took them miles from home, towns fading into just memories and faces were blurred in their minds; Auron and Yuna’s only solidity was themselves, Auron quietly clinging to her in his mind while she voiced her devotion to him a little more frequently.

.) King - Yuna always found herself in awe when Auron would call his favorite aeon - the dragon king would sweep in over their heads and crash down to the ground with a mighty roar, standing behind his summoner proudly to be of service - however, Yuna thought her lord summoner looked more royal than his trusted aeon.

.) Learn - Three nights after the pilgrimage began, the travelers came to their first tragedy in Macalania where a young man met a bloody fate with a yeti; Auron performed the sending, though with sloppy footwork - that night, he shyly requested Yuna’s assistance in helping him learn a better and more graceful way to shift his unsuitable weight in the sacred art.

.) Blur - For being a summoner, he knew only basic curative magic and relied predominantly on his swordsmanship, and Yuna loved watching him run towards an enemy at full speed, sometimes barely seeing his weapon strike he was so precise and powerful.

.) Wait - Auron shuddered under her timid touch, her fine lips stroking over his with a fervency he didn’t know she had, but when she pulled away out of embarrassment, he pulled her back into him, “Wait… don’t go.”

.) Change - Spira was caught in a never-ending circuit of Sin coming, destroying life, ruining civilizations and the summoners and guardians going off to fight it only to never return - Auron was ready, having been to Zanarkand and back, to change Spira’s destiny.

.) Command - While in Guadosalam, Yuna had been offered to be Seymour’s bride so that he could defeat Sin; Auron was quick to object and say “no” for her - for many reasons.

.) Hold - Macalania’s pale sunset was one of Auron’s favorite things that he witnessed in his first travels - when the road brought them back through the woods and into the open lands again, he planned to have Yuna see the same thing, only this time from the vantage point of his embrace.

.) Need - “I like the new staff you bought for me,” Yuna commented about the fine weapon she had just been given, smiling because she knew Auron loved to spoil her senseless, “But you know… the one you gave me yesterday was ok, too.”

.) Vision - Yuna sighed as Auron lay there in a pitiful mess from his wounds, his good eye swollen shut from the poison inflicted earlier; he had been foolish enough to spend his money on Yuna’s new weapon rather than medical supplies, and so he was left to deal with the pain overnight.

.) Attention - Already each an icon to the people of Spira, Auron and Yuna tried to avoid being paraded about, but when passing through Besaid’s small village, Yuna wasn’t shy to loop her arm through his and gain his stuttering response, among other things.

.) Soul - Every time he stepped out of the Chamber of the Fayth, he would stumble, leaning on Yuna’s shoulder until they would reach the front entrance of the trials - his heart felt heavier, carrying the fayth’s tragic story with him now that they were of one mind.

.) Picture - “Your father, he…” Auron’s voice grew soft, Yuna scooting closer to him to hear what he had to say of her beloved father long gone, “His death was… beautiful, though it was horrible to watch…”

.) Fool - In the forest of Macalania, Auron was showing a rarely seen side - he laughed and carried on like a court jester, amazing Yuna to the point that when he made a boisterous comment that he was going off to bathe and she was welcome to join him, she grinned slyly and followed him to the riverside, watching him with painful precision as he rid himself of his armor, both physical and non.

.) Mad - Barely standing and struggling to reach for the potion tucked in her belt, Yuna crumbled from the pain, hearing Auron give an anguished cry as he dove head-on towards the malboro that had struck his guardian down - she was awake, though fading fast.

.) Child - He remembered saying farewell to the little Yuna when he first set off with Braska ten years ago, her playfulness following her into early adult-hood - however, she had grown into a lady, one whom held his shy fantasies and desires.

.) Now - The bare hand on her shoulder as he pulled her tight against him brought gasps and the rushing of blood in her body, Yuna’s hands grappling for fleeting moments of control and then turned quickly to submission, giving in to the fiery moment with her father’s guardian and now her summoner.

.) Shadow - Zanarkand looked as though it had been untouched since last he was there - and it was the truth - cautiously the two road-tested warriors tread, their quiet figures fading into the dark landscape of a city dead for several centuries, hands joined in firm union to the other.

.) Goodbye - After the second temple visit, Auron gently encouraged Yuna to not look behind her with such longing eyes, “You will see this place again - don’t say any farewells.”

.) Hide - The strangely oversized collar was Auron’s half-mask to conceal his past from too-curious people - his tragedies were his to bear and no one else’s; only Yuna had the privilege of seeing him completely unguarded.

.) Fortune - Long days on the road were becoming trying for the pair, and when they arrived at the Mi’hen Highroad travel agency, the good man that was Rin saw the wearisome look on their faces and gave them the last room free of charge - he couldn’t ask any price knowing what Auron and Yuna were setting out to do soon.

.) Safe - In his early days, Auron was the guardian to a high summoner, the most recent challenger of Sin and Yuna’s dear father; now he was in her hands, and he felt more secure with her than anyone else.

.) Ghost - “H-how is it… that you’re still here…” Yuna was afraid to ask the question when he told her his reasons that he couldn’t venture into the Farplane with her to pay tribute to Braska.

.) Book - Learning new magic spells was never his favorite hobby, but after that long night in the Thunder Plains where his minimal curative magics were doing little to aid Yuna’s weary condition, he promised to study every night so that he could always be of service to her as she was to him.

.) Eye - Though she offered regularly to treat his sealed eye so that he could look at her through both visionary wonders, Auron refused it each time; he couldn’t bring himself to tell her that his right eye was Yunalesca’s prize that she had kept after he was killed.

.) Never - “When my father left to become the new liberator of Spira…” Yuna’s voice trailed off as they walked the Mi’hen Highroad, “I thought my heart was set in following in his footsteps - I never imagined that I would take on your former role instead, Sir Auron.”

.) Sing - The temples, though surprised to see Auron taking on the responsibility as summoner, allowed him and his guardian to pass each time, beckoning them with an all-too familiar hymn that Auron sang only when praying to a fayth.

.) Sudden - It didn’t happen gradually at all - Yuna wasted no time in telling Auron about her feelings once he set foot back in Bevelle after nine years, and he was at first shy to accept her pledge, but allowed himself this one luxury and privilege of life.

.) Stop - The Al Bhed girl, Rikku had tried to prevent Yuna and Auron’s path to Zanarkand many times, out-smarting them at every turn and surprising them with a new machina to steal them away - yet Auron’s resolve was strong, “I will not stop until I’ve reached Zanarkand…”

.) Time - Years had painted his face a deeper shade of flesh, but Yuna didn’t mind his fast-aging appearance, for she adored him with the first love of a young girl now grown into a woman with intimate thoughts and lucid proposals after dark.

.) Wash - Yuna took more pleasure in cleansing him from the road than he did, she surmised, the cloth in her hand slowly dragging down his back, quickly washing away dirt to reveal toned features she couldn’t help but kiss longingly, reveling in the soft groans he made for her to continue.

.) Torn - Yunalesca’s voice was strong and without fear as Auron presided before her once again, “You love her enough to perform this act - you do realize that it will be more painful for her than it is for you, though you may be in agony watching her be ripped from you once she has transformed into her entity?”

.) History - “I am not afraid of my future, I know what I must do…” Auron extended his arm out to halt Yuna’s advance towards the ancient summoner, “…And what I must do is erase this false tradition of the final summoning!”

.) Power - Every aeon’s spirit that had forged with his body came out in different forms with her each night; Yuna’s favorite was Ixion’s spirit of the warrior, treating her as a lady of royalty, one whom he had sworn fealty to, and his passion was obvious for her in the way she was held and caressed during their intimacy.

.) Bother - Auron’s eye twitched with annoyance as the two boys enjoyed playing blitzball though it blocked their path to Luca - Yuna was content watching, saying it reminded her of Wakka, and it was only because Yuna enjoyed it that Auron forced himself to.

.) God - The only summoner and his guardian to reject the teachings of Yevon, Auron and Yuna traveled as heretics to a deity they knew would soon fall when their plan for Yunalesca would be carried out.

.) Wall - Yuna never showed anxiety among the people, welcoming them as though she were a celebratory summoner rather than a guardian, and she loved the praise she heard of her father; it was Auron who disliked the admiration for his chosen path, and thus he put up cold barriers that pushed people away at a moment’s glance.

.) Naked - Scars from wounds of ten years (and some more recent) seemed to be purged when she touched them, night after night reminding him that he was still a man, not completely gone from this world and not yet in the next.

.) Drive - Faced with questions of perseverance and goals, Auron could never reply to the townspeople - he had motivations, he just never wanted to express them; it was always up to Yuna to explain their ulterior designs.

.) Harm - The souls of the dead as they were sent on to the Farplane tugged at his own existence, some stronger than others, and on occasion he would collapse from exhaustion, Yuna caring for him through the night as he rejected the death he had and clung to his strangled mortality.

.) Precious - “I lost my father and a good friend to you, Lady Yunalesca,” Yuna shouted, rarely seen anger rising to the surface, “And your counterfeit ritual for the final summoning will not take the life of someone else I treasure!”

.) Hunger - Yuna bit into the fruit with a mischievious look in her eye, glancing at Auron directly across the fire; it was her first night alone with him since they departed Bevelle, and she was hungry for more than just food at that point.

.) Believe - Standing on the precipice of fate and holding on, Auron and Yuna shared a final kiss before he began to fade, “I have faith in you…”
