..:Walking:..
Their walking patterns haven’t changed in seven years: one always too fast, the other too slow, but together, always together.
..:Waltz:..
The Lancelot moved about so elegantly and beautifully that one would think he was engaged in a complicated dance rather than fighting in a battlefield and Lelouch doesn’t know how he completely missed the connection between it and Suzaku.
..:Wishes:..
“One day, I will grant their wishes,” Lelouch declared to the innocent paper crane sitting on top of the dining table, “both of them.”
..:Wonder:..
“I can’t help but wonder,” Suzaku said during one of their ‘secret’ meetings on the rooftop, “I mean, I understand the need for an alias and all, but you really couldn’t come up with anything better than ‘red lamp’ for your name?”
..:Worry:..
He says that it’s actually Nunnally that worries he may not come back one day and Suzaku simply smiles and says that he’ll always come back, to the both of them.
..:Whimsy:..
At ten years old, Lelouch had thought Suzaku to be a completely different species as he defied all of Lelouch’s cold logic and rational thought with his carefree, whimsy nature.
..:Waste/Wasteland:..
It was Suzaku that had shown him the beauty of this strange land called Japan, so Lelouch couldn’t see it as a wasteland like so many others.
..:Whiskey and Rum:..
Suzaku protests that they shouldn’t, they’re too young, that it’s illegal and Lelouch scoffs, putting the glass of wine in the other’s hand, “If we’re old enough to kill, we’re old enough to drink.”
..:War:..
They both wanted to create peace-a peaceful world for Nunnally, a world without war, where no one had to lose any of their loved ones-so it was ironic that instead of peace, they created war.
..:Wedding:..
He was appalled that his sister deduced him to be the bride in their relationship (and he had no problem telling her just that), but he begrudgingly agreed when she stated her reasoning: “But Brother… you’d never be able to carry Suzaku to the limo!”
..:Birthday:..
It is the only day that Lelouch willingly gives into the other boy’s crazy whims, and so they run and laugh and play, carefree and innocent, blissfully unaware that in exactly a month, they’ll be torn apart by the most brutal of ways.
..:Blessing:..
He knows Suzaku thinks Geass is a curse but Lelouch considers it a blessing; after all, his Geass assures him that Suzaku will live.
..:Bias:..
“Will you be able to kill him?” CC asks him in her usual bored, blasé voice, gold eyes staring at him and he does not answer because he knows he’ll always have a biased view on Suzaku.
..:Burning:..
Lelouch smiles to himself, knowing that only he (as Zero) can bring out the passionate hatred burning in Suzaku’s eyes.
..:Breathing:..
Lelouch nearly stops breathing when he sees the cat wearing the Zero mask, but he’s certain his heart stops when Suzaku climbs out of the window after that imbecile of a creature.
..:Breaking:..
Long after the chunk of metal was ripped off the Lancelot and he just barely got the Black Knights to retreat, Lelouch can only laugh because his heart isn’t the only thing that was breaking.
..:Belief:..
“You and I, together, can do anything.”
..:Balloon:..
“Well, you suck at anything physical so I figured this was a good compromise,” Suzaku says cheerfully, waving around the bag of balloons in Lelouch’s face, and Lelouch can’t decide who he wants to kill first; Suzaku for volunteering him for balloon duty or Milly for thinking up this stupid festival in the first place.
..:Balcony:..
Sometimes Suzaku believes that Lelouch does it on purpose - standing out on the balcony or giving a speech in the middle of the sky or insist on having conversations in open fields, just tempting the world with his ‘look at me, I’m right in the open and you can’t do anything about it!’ attitude that tends to piss Suzaku off - “I don’t worry because I know how you are,” Lelouch tells him, haughtily (and Suzaku does not deny the truth).
..:Bane:..
Zero sits in the Gawain long after their battle and can’t help but laugh at the irony of it all; he always knew Suzaku would be the bane of his existence one day, but he never expected it to be quite like this.
..:Quiet:..
His head is still reeling from the fact that Suzaku chose Britannia over him and CC watches him push over a pile of paper in his anger, choosing to remain silent instead of saying “I told you so!”
..:Quirks:..
Lelouch, after having his logic defied over and over again, decides that Suzaku is just an oddball, and writes off the boy’s one-sided affections for cats as one more quirk to add to the (ever-growing) list.
....
“What do you think, Suzaku?” he asks, though they both know that’s not the real question he’s asking when the knight takes the gleaming silver sword and answers, “It’s a beautiful sword, Lelouch.”
..:Quarrel:..
The first time they quarreled, the rest of the student council stood by in stunned silence, too shocked at the sight of their vice president lose his cool demeanor; now they watch Suzaku poke and prod at the other teen with amused smiles and soft giggles.
..:Quitting:..
“Losing you once was hard enough,” Lelouch mumbles under his breath, and Suzaku lays a hand on his shoulder, telling him not to worry, that nothing will happen to him, but doesn’t mention a single word about why quitting is simply not an option.
..:Jump:..
He hated how Suzaku thought he was beneath the Britannians just because he was an Eleven, but nothing vexed him more than seeing how badly the Britannian army had groomed him into their lapdog, that if any soldier told him to jump, he’d merely reply, “how high?”
..:Jester:..
He is a fool, Lelouch thinks, just a jester, a source of entertainment for them, but not for long; he will save Suzaku, even if the fool doesn’t realize he needs to be saved yet.
..:Jousting:..
As they stand there, two (former) best friends with guns trained on one another, Lelouch is reminded of the childhood stories his mother used to read to him about incredible jousts between medieval knights and how he wishes that this was just another story.
..:Jewel:..
Shirley once commented how Suzaku’s eyes reminded her of emeralds but Lelouch thinks that no emeralds, peridots, or demantoids could ever hold a candle to his eyes.
..::Just::..
Lelouch simply can’t comprehend why Suzaku, of all people, can’t see that Zero’s actions are just and for the good of mankind.
..:Smirk:..
His usual condescending smirk was replaced by a smile, tiny but genuine, as he accepted death, and Suzaku could feel his heart breaking.
..:Sorrow:..
He had prepared for this before, knew it was coming, but when the sword slides into his chest (easily, so very easily), and he can feel Lelouch’s weight on his shoulder, the bloody handprint aligned with his cheek, he cannot stop the tears from flowing out.
..:Stupidity:..
The only reason he had gone through the whole ordeal of announcing himself, on live television, to be the true killer of the late Prince Clover was to save him from what was sure to end in an order of execution, so he could not, for the love of anything sacred and pure left in this world, understand the sheer stupidity of the boy as he announced that he was going to court-the same court he had just rescued him from-because he did not agree with Zero’s methods.
..:Serenade:..
“Will you sing me Suzaku’s song, Brother?” Nunnally would ask over the years after their separation and Lelouch would always indulge her wishes, partly because he couldn’t refuse her anything and partly because it would keep Suzaku alive (even if only in their memories).
..:Sarcasm:..
His comments are often sarcastic, and downright malicious sometimes, but Suzaku simply rolls his eyes because he knows exactly what Lelouch is trying to say.
..:Sordid:..
He had never been a fan of the Britannian army (or anything else relating to Britannia, really), but he had never seen them in such a sordid light until he saw the commander pulling the trigger on his best friend (his first friend that he hadn’t seen in seven years!), the other soldiers laughing in the background as the brunet tumbled to the ground.
..:Soliloquy:..
“You really love to hear yourself talk, don’t you?” Suzaku asks, shuffling through the small mountain of speeches in front of him, while Lelouch scowls and reminds him that he’ll have to memorize all of them before the end of the month.
..:Sojourn:..
It was supposed to be a sojourn-just a temporary setting to reside in, nothing permanent, nothing to get attached to-not unlike one of their summer villas (except, perhaps, that he was sent against his will and that the Japanese absolutely hated his guts), but the Kururugi Shrine became his home and Suzaku a better brother than any other that were actually related to him.
..:Share:..
Nunnally was his-his sister, his responsibility, his world-and it was his job to protect her from any harm, but seeing Suzaku making her laugh so easily without much effort on his part, he can’t help but think that perhaps that is one job he’d be willing to share.
..:Solitary:..
CC had told him that the power of the kings would isolate him from the rest of the world but Lelouch didn’t believe it; Suzaku was right there with him at the end, after all.
..:Nowhere:..
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll be alright,” Suzaku tells Lelouch, gently shoving him toward the waiting car even though he knows that he has nowhere else to go now.
....
Zero has the capability of remaining neutral and levelheaded for many issues that the Black Knights bring up, only acting on those that would gain them the most benefits, so Kallen doesn’t understand why he’s so adamant about having Kururugi join them.
..:Nuance:..
Suzaku hardly spoke Japanese anymore but every once in a while Lelouch would hear the soft nuances of wistfulness in his voice when he’d let a word of his native language slip out.
..:Near:..
“Suzaku will come to me, just wait,” Lelouch tells her; CC merely sighs because she knows that Lelouch will have to learn the hard way that the more Zero attempts to get Suzaku on his side, the farther and farther the boy will be.
..:Natural:..
Lelouch doesn’t have to think long to answer the question plaguing his mind; Suzaku is the natural choice, there is no one better suited to be Nunnally’s knight.
..:Horizon:..
It’s for Nunnally, it’s for Nunnally, it’s for Nunnally, he kept repeating the mantra to himself, perhaps hoping that if he’d say it enough times, he wouldn’t feel as guilty or his heart wouldn’t hurt as much as the car pulled away and his best friend started to blend in with the horizon until he could no longer see those sad green eyes.
..:Valiant:..
Suzaku had to applaud Lelouch on his valiant effort to keep control of his emotions when dear, sweet, little Nunnally came on the screen, even more so when she declared them to be her enemies.
..:Virtuous:..
The first time Suzaku tells him of his plan to save Japan, Lelouch calls him a virtuous fool but now as he watches the world crumble all around him, he wonders which one of them is really the fool.
..:Victory:..
Ignorance truly is bliss, Lelouch thought bitterly to himself, for when he didn’t know the true identity of the pilot of the Lancelot to be his best friend (-god damn it, he was supposed to be part of the Engineering Unit!-), he could actually relish in his victories instead of worrying about accidently killing Suzaku.
..:Defeat:..
They cheered for Zero, cheered for the fall of the Demon Emperor, cheered for what was the greatest victory the world experienced, and Suzaku just wanted to scream because this wasn’t a victory, would never be a victory, but none would ever be the wiser.
