SPOILER ALERT! MEMORIES OF PARALLEL UNVIERSE DISCUSSION

Jan 13, 2009 22:10

I'm having problems with Memories, and this post is a full synopsis of what I've got in mind for the fic. So that means that I'm going to give away details of the plot and whatnot, so that qualifies as SPOILERS ya'll. But, as a story is more about how it is told than what it contains (in my opinion and experience that is), I'm comfortable ( Read more... )

You do realize that I'm like super excited now? I'm going to read it again tomorow so I can answer your questions but right now? I'm going to sleep. :)

Excited is good. Hopefully the full ngihts sleep helped with that thinkin' process. And in general.

oh it did, now let me see . . .

The story arc you have right now is pretty solid, so at least you mostly know what you have to do, but it would be intresting if you played up his ptsd a bit more, and made him kind of equate the horror stories of the soldiers his spends day to day with with his dreams, kind of make him believe that he actually was of this world, a bit like three steps forward, four steps back deal. Or if you brought someone into the 'hospital' that Caspian would have things in common with if he actually was from Earth, as a way to cement his 'other' status, after he starts believing his is from Earth that is, wouldn't be any fun other wise. :)

I'll think about it some more and leave a bit more feedback tomorow. :)

That would work, the makin' him believe he belonged there, but he knows his dreams aren't bad things, they're not traumatic - not generally. There's a handful that are really hard, the ones where he remembers being torn from the much higher plane of Aslan's Country and forced into a created vessel that would withstand the Shadowlands. And I'm thinkin' perhaps a few memories from Old Narnia that were traumatic ( ... )

This is just a thought I had while reading through this...but what if the hospital's struggle for Caspian's money became more of an issue (I am having trouble finding the right wording for this, so bear with me :)). What if the hospital conceived of a plan to give Caspian a lobotomy (or some other procedure), knowing that it would make him incapable of leaving and therefore gain control of his assets. Then Caspian and Susan (knowing full-well that the proceedure would leave him effectively braindead), decide to quickly get married. Then, that would transfer control of the money over to Susan if anything should happen to Caspian, thereby eliminating the hospital's threat. Having gotten married so quickly could also lead into tension between the two of them as they continue to learn new things about one another, and/or continue to fall in love.

I am not sure this all came out as coherently as I intended it too, but I hope you get my general idea.

I think I love you. *glomps* That's genius, I mean I had thought of the marriage thing, but of somethin' later on, so he could get out of the hospital. Not because of the monetary threat and greed n'stuff and the forced lobotomy. Oh I love you, yes I do. Can I keep you? I'm gonna keep you and feed you cupcakes. You do like cupcakes don't you? Everyone loves cupcakes....

Lol. The feeling is mutual, I think you are one of the most talented writer's I have seen. I always look forward to your updates. I have to admit my idea is not entirely original. Something similar was used in two other fics that I've read. This idea was something that kind of sprang from those experiences...

XD Of course I like cupcakes, I just prefer to eat them without the frosting on top...yeah I know I'm weird.

Eh, all stories are are bastardizations of other stories. A constant retelling, there's nothing truly original, everything stands on the ideas, traditions and experiences of those who came before. It's how you tell it that makes it different.
So, even if it came from somewhere else, who cares? If it works, it works. So long as I'm not y'know, plagerizing, then things're fine.
Ah, so no homemade creamcheese icing on yours then. That's all good. I like mine w/o icing if they're piping hot fresh from the oven. Then icing can bog off. Otherwise, slather that creamcheese yummehness on there baby. Or that thick chocolate fudge icing, y'know the kind that dosent' look like icing, and is sorta shiny? Yeah - that stuff rocks.
Not allowed to eat it, but it still rocks nonetheless.

I haven't actually read this entry yet, but I just wanted to say that I love using "y'all" too!! But that could just be because I AM Southern.

I'm mostly Southern, but my mom's a yankee, and while true I grew up down here, I tend to be (oddly enough) considered a bit more European. Dunno why... O.O it might be the accent... I certainly don't sound Southern. Except for the coloquialisms. And I so botched that spelling.

Haha my mom is Southern and my dad was born out west, but I grew up down here too. I don't have a Southern accent either! No one ever believes me when I tell them that I've lived in the South all of my life. But I do indeed use "y'all" at every opportunity.

Yes, finally, I managed to find some time to look up the page via your ID on fanfiction (for the record, this is khajit), thank you very much for the link. So...ehm, as for the story. looks great, I especially like the part where Susan´s friends come back, will they be drunk when they visit? I know, not all party people are drunk 24/7, but it might create a 28 days effect of annoyance for Susan, with Caspian going like, WTF these are your friends? you'd have to find a reason why they'd go and visit a veteran while being pissed though ( ... )

Yeah the friends showing up drunk thing would be good, but you're also right in "how the heck would I explain that?"
Well the V.A. hospital functions as an asylum to a degree (in the States I think it's called Fourth Floor or Fourth Ward now, but that's for the super duper really bonkers ppl who'll like rip your throat out and make your throat into some sorta pipe to play a little ditty on sort of crazy) and later on is going to switch more into a general asylum due to budjet cuts by the government. As for the sort of downhill Seymour's in, it's more of a physical health decline. Basically he's being overdosed on lithium (a very easy thing to have happen.)
The signs for lithium overdose are loss of muscle control, seizures, etc. Plus there's some mood stuff that is tottally different then the basic stablizing that comes from lithium normally. Crap, now I think I hafta go recheck all my research, thhpt. I should know all this stuff off the top of my head, but there's so much information up there... *pokes at head several times, ( ... )

Hi :), sorry to bug you, but I wonder if you ever continued this story, and if you did, where is it?? I found up until chapter 4 in the susan/caspian community in LJ, but nothing else, please let me know if you finished this 'cause is such an amazing story and I totally love it!!!

Thanks and be well :)

Ehhh..... no I didn't finish it. I think I have up to six done, but I'm not sure. My old laptop died and I've been usin' my husband's for the last while. But he winds up stealin' the laptop back from me whenever I've actually got free time to use it usually.... so then I wind up not bein' able to use it at all anyway.... Ergo I've not really done any writin' or postin'. If there's more posted for Memories it'd be at FF.net but frankly I was fairly good about keepin' up with the chapters on the Suspian LJ community. Except for that stupid fic I was writin' called I Wish.
