Hi there!! Thanks for your reply... lucky for me, Josh has started to sleep through the night since he started walking. The pacifier just helps him to get to sleep. It usually drops out after he falls asleep..

2) Yah i think I should try straw. He has no problems with cup during meals.. In fact, he likes drinking form adult cups but of cos it still drips. But he still loves his bottle before sleep, so I guess I won't deprive him of that yet

Hi
Can only answer u the secoond question because my dd does not take pacifier from start and she is a super fussy eater !

As for point two, we changed to cup feeding successfully without fuss (much to my suprised) by telling her that she will get a bicycle (show pic) if she used cup to drink. I used the reward system for this and it worked for her !

Yes I think reward system should work but he's still a little young to understand me, I feel... it's definitely something I will use in future to change habits or for discipline!!! :)

Hi, I chanced upon your journal and would like to share the following with you. I have a boy who's 3 plus now. For the most part of his infancy and toddler life, he couldnt leave without his pacificer and a smelly pillow. In fact he will bring it wherever he goes. Like you, I was worried if he will ever weaned off them. He did in the end at two plus, when he's old enough to understand and converse with me, I could actually get him to wean off them slowly by telling him he's a big boy. In fact he 'lost' his pillow one night and had no interest in the pacifier after that ( ... )

Hi!! You're toscaong & inspire_u's friend yes?? Well, hello and thanks for your advice.

When the time comes, I'll probably coat his pacifier with lemon cos that's something he really dislikes. Ha ha ha * mean mum smirk* + his sour face expression is very funny.

Hmm.. garlic in veggies is a great idea. I think I will start with garlic & onions cos these 2 are very good for the body. And if I have to use oil, I'll use olive oil and maybe a few drops of soya sauce for taste....

:)

I guess you can count me as inspire_u's friend (online friend), we have never met but I enjoyed reading her journal and her gals. :)

That might work! hee hee. I use olive oil too, somehow it seems like the healthier choice. :)

Its indeed a little tougher to be caring for your child while out-station, away from the country where your friends and family support are. But I think you are doing a great job and doing just fine! :)

BTW, can I add you onto my friend's list?

In His love,
Elaine

1) Try to wean off pacifer if you can? Use lemon :)
2) Do try him with straw now, it makes the transition to full cup easier. It will take a while for him to master the art of sipping thru the straw, but he will pick it up quickly enough, and you can then use those straw water bottles when you go out (spill proof and saves your handphone from being soaked ever again!)
3) (I remember Shann at 18 mths when we travelled to Perth) - so at that stage, we introduced rice for dinner so I would pan fry (or rather, I instruct Arsi to) Shann's dinner ingredients (rice + meat/fish + vegetables + whatever else (pan fry potato, minced meat or minced beef or minced fish or minced chicken) with Olive oil.
She would also get steamed minced fish/pork with soya sauce. Makes it a lot more appetising for them at this age (18 mths).

Yes straw is something I definitely wanna try. we've been demonstrating how to suck on a straw but cos it's an "internal invisible" action, I don't think Josh gets what we're trying to say. Hmm... he should master it after a few tries, afterall, same muscles as sucking from a teat!

Josh seems to be in the crunching phase now - everything must have a "crunch" sound - toast, weet bix, corn thins, biscuits...or it must be grilled / fried or.... drowned in cheese... or hidden in omelettes. ( altho he can pick out tiny bits of chopped broccoli ... amazing!!!!)
Thank GOD for eggs!!!

here's a hilarious one i heard from my indian neighbour - they bought a rubber cockroach, put it on the paci, make a hoo-haa, and their daughter wouldn't touch the paci again, haha! but seriously, i don't think Josh's tiny bit of paci habit will affect dental development. its just something soothing for him.

On the food issue, here's a few ways i try to up the nutrition/quotient value, in addition to garlic/onion/herbs for my picky eater:
- use organic chicken broth (low salt, no mSG ones)- very flavourful. OR you can also save some soup when u next make some, freeze them in ice cubes n use the cubes to flavour whatever u cook.
- add instant brown rice to the usual white rice
- make scrambled eggs in the microwave, adding milk, cheese, mushrooms, spinach whatever else jean woudln't eat (she likes egg)

toddlers like sedap food also, and after their first try at fries or something salty, they become your harshest culinary critic, haha!

happy cookin'!

ha ha.. pls loh, mu gutsy boy will probably eat the cockroach. He still doesn't understand logic....

Ok I shall trust you on the dental bit in view of where you work ;)

there's like 1 organic shop in Noumea apparently .. somewhere in some ulu place so that's out. Probably can make my own broth.

Josh has always taken brown rice since he started solids... I think he's sick of it. even with vegemite!

Lucky for me, he loves, eggs, bread... He's only had fries and stuff once or twice.. I never give him adult food when I dine outside but daddy always does. I tell him off all the time but he's another stubborn old cow tho thinks Josh is ready for adult food just once or twice weekends. Like yesterday, he fed Josh Viet spring rolls... FRIED ok...

Can die loh... " qi si wo le!!!"
