Poo.... Pee

Just wondering... anyone has good toilet training tips for boys?? Josh is 20 months now and while he poos & pees most mornings on the potty, he doesn't know how to tell me that he wants to poo / pee for the rest of the day. So he's still in diapers at least 2-3 x a day cos if not, I end up with pools of pee around the house ( Read more... )

sorry can't help out in this area. i do know that kids will be ready when they are. somehow, this generation takes a while to be potty trained. during our time, we would have been off diapers by age 1. Some kids I know have successfully been toilet trained at around 2 years old, some take a longer time. Shann got off at 3 years, but sometimes, we still put it on when we go out cos i can't stand the dirty toilets around in public areas.

Yes my mum is still talking abt how lucky us new generation mums are cos of disposable diapers. She says we used cloth nappies in our time, so our mums had to toilet train us faster - she said my siblings and I were trained by 1 yo! Impressive...

I guess I will observe him in the meantime for signs before he pees/poos. For now, I'm just happy he poos mostly in the morning so I dont' have to clean him up if we go out.

I just saw a card from Dumex which charts out the general timeline for milestones for kids to achieve. According to them, 3 years old is the stipulated suggested stage when a kid should try to be toilet-trained. So don't fret :) Once they can communicate it better (say 2 1/2 years old), that's when you can advise him on the training.

I happened to speak to an English preschool teacher yesterday abt enrolling Josh in her school. She also said 3yo is the best time for toilet training so... + the info you read, I guess 3 is the magic number!!!

i think once they start to speak and can associate meaning to the words they speak, it would get easier to be toilet-train. Till then, it's literally watching out for tell-tale signs . Like my little niece sharlene -before she could speak, she used to have a fav corner when she did her pee-poo. So my mum could tell when she walked towards that corner.

That's a neat way - poo/pee corner! Josh does it in the potty in his toilet upstairs. He's definitely not going up the stairs when he needs to "go" so yah, for now... I'll just observe him for signs.
