Sri Lankans are quite westernized especially the richer ones. So the hotels and one or two of the more prominent retail shops here are decked in christmas grandeur, you do get turkeys and puddings here, even most chinese restaurants will do their best for some decor.
But other than that, its not a big deal since most of them are buddhist and dont quite celebrate the occassion.
Is it big over your end? :) Where are you exactly? :)
Its just quiet (boring) and sad away from family and friends this magical time of the year.
yes I agree.. you see only 2 of us blogging while the rest are partying away in Singapore! hee hee
New Caledonia is east of Australia abt 3 hours away. I shall put up a map from the atlas in my next entry for you. It's part of France so Christmas is a big thing but there're NO malls here. Not at all.. only little shops. And there's 1 big tree in the town centre. Apparently, Santa goes there every Christmas Eve - one year by helicopter, one year by boat. Interesting!
There're a handful of Chinese restaurants here but food in general's not great. There're some good Viet cafes & mostly, French restaurants. Dining out is very expensive but more importantly, the food's not great for the amt you dish out.
It's very much "island life" here... the French are quite well-off and come here to retire or chill out. The locals (polynesians/malenesians/ walisians)are not as well-off.. they work.. but they're also on strike alot! Like France!
