Erik laughed again at that, and Charles joined him. The conversation moved on from Byron to Blake, continuing to talk as their drinks grew cold and the life of the coffee shop moved and changed around them. Erik felt a warmth in his chest as he relaxed into the discussion, realising how long it had been since he’d talked to anybody at length that didn’t involve civil law. He ended up staying much later at the coffee shop than he’d expected to, as he and Charles went over their hypothetical love story again, embellishing details, and Erik told him of his work as a solicitor; details a partner should know, at first, but it soon lead to stories, of the constantly malfunctioning coffee machine, and of Simmons, who had overheard Erik mention to Roger -possibly the closest person he could call a friend in the office - about the ridiculous potential-marriage situation he’d found himself in, and had handed Erik FX’s card as a method of escaping such a fate by proving himself already attached, without having the hassle of finding someone to
