Charles(/Erik?), Protective!Raven - Asperger Syndrome [WARNING: Mental Disability] anonymous June 16 2011, 05:34:06 UTC
I’m not entirely sure I’m using the warnings correctly. If I offend anybody by posting this, I apologize. My boyfriend has Asperger’s, and I thought it would be a unique experience to read a story where Charles is similarly afflicted. As far as I know, there is no issue with ableism in this post, as it’s more about Charles accepting his disorder and learning how to live with it than being discredited or mocked for it.Charles was born with Asperger syndrome. Raven, albeit younger than him, finds herself becoming the protective older sister to a small boy who gets bullied due to his difficulty negotiating friendships. Charles can remain withdrawn and timid from years of having people insult him both verbally and mentally, or become the charismatic figure he is in the film, using his telepathy to determine what people want from him then adapting to those wishes. It’s up to the filler, but I think it would be rather unique to see how Charles' natural optimism and belief in people could be cultivated after such a rough childhood ( ... )

I just have to say I love this soooo much. My sister has aspergers and everytime anything shows up about it people generally get it wrong and it pisses me off like a lot. But this is so perfect my sister espiecally does the talking thing. She just goes on and on even after me and my other sister tell her to shut up like a hundred times which sounds kind of mean but she always does it when we are specifically trying to hear something like the news. Also with rouines ldhgileuhgvlasdjvb my parents thankfully managed to train my sister out of them but when they get changed the first time she loses it slightly so I like how you handled that to XD
Anyway just wanted to say this is amazing so far and gonna go and read the next bit.

You have no idea how excited I am to see you incorporate that kiss into this chapter. The whole scene was perfect, not to mention very true to the characters. I'm loving Raven more and more in this, the way that she knows how to keep Erik around gives me slight hope that this will have a happy, albeit AU, ending. Either way, I can't wait to see what you come up with. Thanks for all you've written so far, it's exactly what I imagined when I posted the prompt.

To channel Erik: PERFECTION! ;D

Not OP asks for an AU ending because the thought of Erik hiding his mind from this Charles makes me want to cry. It would be too cruel and it just doesn't seem to fit with this world that you're building,

OP here! First things first, please take your time with this and do not in any way stress over it! You're already doing me the biggest favor by writing this magnificent story and I more than understand the necessary evils of work and college. Whenever you have time, we're here. If not, fair enough.

I selfishly agree with the nonnie above in terms of the ending. Having an AU ending would not be such a stretch, considering the way this story varies from the established canon. However, I am also always up for the tear-jerker divorce scene, especially if it ends with Erik and Charles' reconciliation after a little (read: a lot of) angst.

Long story short, I'm easy. Whatever feels best when you get there, really. :3

I can't apologize enough for how long it's taken for me to read this! I've been so scattered for the past few days, and it was honestly the best feeling to jump on here and find out that you've not only updated, but FINISHED this magnificent story ( ... )

I absolutely loved this! I love how you made subtle changes to the movie, like not having Charles say that they're all following orders, because he knows better. Raven is such a good sister too. I love the way you wrote her and how protective she was. Charles was absolutely adorable and I wanted to give him hugs for most of this fic and your Erik was a sweetheart in his own way.

Charles doesn't understand what Erik means nor does he want to. All he knows is that Erik is happy and Erik is safe and that's all that matters.
Aww, HEARTS IN MY EYES! They're just so cute.

And I'm glad that they got the happy ending. The slight addition of Raven/Hank was also appreciated as I was shipping them for most of the movie too.

Wonderful job!
